Save the 1C folder. Or you lose all your custom skins and what not :)

If you are connected to the steam cloud I think it saves your controls profile. Please confirm anyone?

Than for a truly clean install you probally dont want to save any of the config stuff.. Best to start from scratch.. More so with RoF than CoD.. In that RoF seems to change the format of thier control/config stuff from time to time

I've done that with poor results

I have uninstalled/deleted everything even remotely related to Steam and the game...still old things remain in the fresh install.

I have not un-installed a STEAM game lately..
So not 100% sure but from what I know there are TWO reasons why your old config shows back up after a clean install
One maybe STEAM is NOT del the files in the local HD User folder?
Two maybe the STEAM CLOUD settings are not getting deleted?
The later (item 2) is most likly the reason, so best to CLEAR your CLOUD too for a truly CLEAN install

Yes it is very strange, things like mission titles remain but no mission, plus I had this event...in a way it was very cool

Nothing to be gained from a fresh install unless you format the HDD. The patch will either work or it won't -- whenever / IF it ever comes out. Reinstalling it from steam will achieve nothing.

I just had a hd crash lost everything........
apart from getting past Steams verification fiasco one loaded up Steam cloud remembered all my settings (phew) even though a message come up saying Steam Cloud couldn't synchronize.
with a new clean hard drive Win 7 Ultimate 64bit os everythings a lot smoother.
Lost over 60 CooP missions, I was working on a campaign

I feel sorry for you - and us! :(
I saved all the ini files, my custom missions/campaigns, Key/axis settings file and the weapons loadout user.ini. After re-installing I checked the new install then used the files that I needed - some were not needed bit many were.
