Hey gang,
I was having a look see in the manual for CLoD, couple things I was wondering about.
1: In the video section, the manual talks about HDR - High Dynamic Range, and recommends this setting be on for all but the lower level computers. I do not see this in the video options in the sim.
2: SSAO - I see this in the video options in the sim - I may have couple of the letters backwards as I am going by memory - I do not see this mentioned in the CLoD manual in the video section - what is this?
Thanks for any help on these,

Hi Don,
The SSAO toggle on/off option has been added in one of the patches last year, further to the suggestions of a user, in order to increase the fps by disabling it on the non high end machines. SSAO visual improvements on the planes are indeed quite subtle and noticeable only from close distance. If you search this forum you will find many topics from last year, with examples of SSAO on and off.
If you have low fps, try and disable it.
As far as HDR, I think that this option didn't make it to the release.
cheers!
PS: look at this (in CloD the effec is much less dramatic .. :-))

S!
HDR is in the conf.ini only. Have not fiddled with it if making any difference.

Thanks guys - I appreciate it!
Looks like ssao is not checked on mine I will go ahead and enable it and see how it does. Pretty new user and just getting into it, if I have a problem fps wise I will disable.

SSAO has an impact on FPS and I exprienced more stuttering. Have to test with the new card how it goes. Rise Of Flight has a good graphics options GUI where you can adjust HDR and shadows etc. Made a proposal to the applicable thread if more advanced options could be added or given information of them otherwise.

I would certainly agree with the more information request, some of that stuff in there for a newbie like me can be quite intimidating , and somewhat unclear on what they exactly are and what they do... I am still in the getting things set up stage and have not really flown yet , with the exception of the takeoff and landing training missions in the biplane. Currently trying to get all my control assignments done along with getting them mapped to my Cougar Hotas via a joystick file for them...
Thanks,

Just quickly here: SSAO improves a games shading /lighting as it attempts to simulate the affect of light bouncing off surfaces and what not and calculate where the shadows should be (in crevices or indentations etc) therefore adding realism. It would in this case only apply to the cockpit in the game though.

IIRC it applied to the planes also. I remember the belly of a spit with the wheel wells and radiators more defined/contrasted.

Many thanks for posting those screen shot comparisons, definitely can see the difference with SSAO enabled!
Hopefully I can run CLoD with it enabled, will have to see - I will start that way with it though.
Thanks again,
