Hi guys I'm new here to the forum. Just bought cliffs of dover the other day and had some technical Q's first. I want to get better results from my system and am looking to make some upgrades.

Mobo: gigabyte z68ap-d3
Processor: intel i7 2600
Ram: 8 gb (2x4gb) ddr3 1333.
GPU: Powercolor Radeon 6850 HD
PSU: 600w theraltake(?) offbrand

I recently purchased this system from newegg and have been considering a few new upgrades. I have purchased a new 950w PSU and two (2x4gb) sticks of mushkin redline ddr3 1600 which should be here soon.

I run mid-high settings in game and average 60 fps over the channel, 45 over land, and 28 over London. If I'm over, say, 3000 ft my fps goes up to 40 fps over London. On take off/landing or crashes I get horrible frames, like 8 or so. I've tweaked the settings quite a bit in the video options after reading the FAQ here(forests off, grass off, textures high, ssao off, everything else mid to high.

I was getting CTD error where the game would still run only sound. I read that you should turn up your fan manually, which I did. Does anyone know if that's bad for your GPU? I run it on manual at 75% and have no more crashes. Something to do with a mem leak?

Does anyone know if I can mix those two sticks of 1600 CAS 7 sticks with my 1333 CAS? sticks? Obviously I'll run them in different channels so the dual channel feature works.

Also does anyone have advice on GPU's? Would I be better off getting another 6850HD and crossfiring it, or would I be better served by a newer/better card? My mobo also does not support a second card at full speed, I think it's 1x or 4x for crossfire, not a great mobo IMO.

Sorry for such a long post, hope the read wasn't too bad;). I loved playing all of Il-2 online(Il-2 through 1946) and I look forward to improving my skills here. I've been out of the loop for a while(deployed) and I much appreciate any help I can get. Thanks

You should be able to mix ram as long as they are in seperate channels. Might also help to downclock one set and overclock the other to some middle ground with the same settings in both. Timings/speed from 1333 to 1600 won't make much difference anyway.
Running the GPU fan faster won't hurt it at all. It helps keep the card cooler.
For your budget I would recommend one of the new 7 series mid range cards from AMD. Crossfire and SLI still isn't officially supported and the new 7 series is almost twice as fast as the 6. Otherwise a Nvidia 570 is a good card for the money.

Thanks for the info. As I read a little further I saw the issues with SLI and crossfire.
