Just installed new. Everything going ok. Reboot. Start game. Load options to set up controls. Set screen resolution...etc all ok...try first quick mission.Loading on splash screen. Mission running behind splash screen. Splash screen never changes to mission. Can hear throttle and weapons when I hit controls, but the splash screen never changes to mission. Tweek all settings to low lowest. Still same. Re-installed. Still same.

OK I know where this is going. The fact is that the game is too big for my computer(...or, my computer aint big enough for the game...)OK 2007 Compaq laptop Dual core 160 GB 2GB RAM(too small, I'M sure) Nvidia 8400(forgive me, I'm going on memory, but thats pretty close) Direct X 11...forgot to mention in last post that when game is loading a caption comes up---"your driver(nvdia) has recovered from...blada...but the game loads and I can get to all the functions and everything seems normal except it wont get past the splashscreens---game is running in background.
This computer sounds like an old dinosaur, but I run IL-2 Dark Blue World, FlatOut3, Ultimate Carnage, and some other "big" games...but just short of Cliffs of Dover.
Appreciate any insight in case I have overlooked anything, or any tricks or tweeks...Best Wishes to all!

The Nvidia 8400 is a DX 10 card. Not that it matters since Clod is DX 10.However it only has 256 MB of ram.
I suspect this is the problem.Yes you can get to all the menus and option screens but those are 2d.Once the game starts (3d) your card chokes.
Just as a comparison people getting the best game play have video cards with 2 GB of ram.

Troll2K>>>THANK YOU for your response! YES! I believe your observation is correct that this issue has something to do with improper rendering of DirectX components.
However, my mistake is the NVidia driver is actually GeForce8200M G...
-dxdiag stating system is under DirectX11
-UNICODE and diagnostics---"NO PROBLEMS FOUND"
-DDI version---10BGRA supported=YES
-DDRAW status-ENABLED
-D3D status-ENABLED
-AGP status-ENABLED
-SOUND DRIVER---ConexantCHDRT32.Sys>>>version---4.58.0000.0000---date6/05/08---size---222,208 bytes
-HWAccelLevel--basic---NOTE---using basic built-in speakers---nothing fancy---there don't seem to be any sound issues---HOWEVER!!!-there is no music or clicking sound when I hit the mouse cursor---I believe the problem also has been subtracting certain basic "between" screen sounds that are supposed to be there---of course, if I don't hear it ,I don't exactly know what is absent.
QUESTION>>>If this is indeed a DirectX issue how do I correct it? Re-install loads all the DirectX components but it seems that the wrong variant is being rendered>>>THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!

While your OS might have DX 11 loaded the card is only DX 10 capable. As I stated before this really does not matter as Clod is only DX 10 at the moment.Fortunately DX versions are supposed to be backwards compatible.
I would check you config.ini for the render dx line and make sure it says d10_0(or something similar.I am doing this from memory).
If you can get into the bios and allocate as much ram to the video card that will help.
You might also reinstall the vb basic files and the dot fx(net framework) files that are in you redist folder in the main folder.I have read though where it is better to get the latest dotnet fx from the Microsoft site.
There are also several posts about getting laptops to run Clod.
However in the end it is my belief that your laptop is just under powered.
Here are the minimum specs. But most people feel these are too low in reality.
