View Full Version : German SdKfz9 Transport/Trailer

I originally started taking a picture of what I created, to find out what tows the trailer, but I see I overlooked the name, and figure the SdKfz9 tows it.

I'm curious if there are any other capable/realistic vehicles that one might know that towed this thing.

And I've found that the vehicle and trailer (as a unit) can be found in the vehicles section, but there's a bug that has the SdKfz9 about 50 feet away from the trailer it's supposed to be towing. :( (Where on earth is the bug report anyways? Forum "Search" attempts can't find jack)

Okay, so now add a static camera to the mission and run it. The FAMO will tow the trailer and the "cargo" as it should. Apparently the FMB is a bit weird at what it does show outside running missions. ;)

And BTW .. that trailer is supposed to carry a battle tank, not a bunch of light AT guns. ;)

Wonder what would happen with those guns if a E/A flew overhead. Would the game have them firing while on the trailer? Could be quite a nasty shock to someone!

I highly doubt that those Guns would fire at Enemy Aircraft, 'cause they are Anti tank Guns. ;)

Good to know that the trailer will attach when the mission runs, I'll have to give it a go.

And as for what it's supposed to carry, and what I will make it carry, these are two different things.. When I saw the trailer, the first thing I thought was that it would transport a tank.. but I always try to give you something different to look at in my missions.. (built too many missions to count in IL2) You'll see more of what I'm speaking of when a staffel tries to escort their transported commander's house for example ;) (The idea just came to me) hehe.

I have been able to get 88's to fire at ground targets.

These AT guns are static pieces, so I hope that they don't try to shoot at anything.

I DO have another question about what might happen if the trailer is destroyed... That question is, if the trailer gets destroyed, what happens to the objects I have raised? Are they going to remain elevated? I haven't got the chance to see the result yet and hope someone might already know.

Just a side note that I didn't notice until I began loading them onto the trailer. The top of the armored plate that protects the gunners was notched out for loading purposes (I imagine) so that the barrel of the cannon behind it would rest in it perfectly.

Have you tried putting down a couple platoons of tanks? They fire at aircraft, and quite effectively I might add. If I get near 12 tanks (3 platoons), it's a near 50% kill on any aircraft flying in under 500m in a single pass.

Try attacking Bliss's armoured depots on ATAG. He's got so many tanks and AA trucks, that's its death trying to dive bomb/glide bomb them. If you get under 500m, even at 600kph, you're pretty much dead. I try to drop my bomb on the AA columns, and come back in to finish the job after respawn.

AT guns, and tank guns fire at aircraft in this game. I can't get 88s to fire at tanks however.

German Tanks firing at Airplanes is not historical correct due to their limitation in Firing speed and the lack of AA Ammo also the tanks optical targeting system is not able to tracking such fast moving targets like planes and could not get a predicted position (of target).
Not to mention the moving speed of the Turret.
Panzer III and Panzer IV's shooting at Planes was technically impossible in reality.

The 3,7cm Pak 36 couldnt elevate more than +25° and the bigger problem is their wheeled gun carriage with its trail spade and splinter shield which limits the traverse to 30° to the right and left. Not even the Ammo was the same as the 3,7cm Pak 36 had a 37x249mm(R) Rimmed round and the 3,7cm Flak 18/36/37/43 had a 37x264mm Rimless Round.

...in Otto Carious's book ("TIGERS IN THE MUD") his claims he shot down an allied plane with the 88MM gun of his Tiger:

"On the other hand, we had a lot of trouble with Russian fighters. They 'lurched' past us, almost without a break. That's really the way one has to describe that type of flying. My gunner, Unteroffizier Kramer, can take credit for a deed which was probably unparalleled on the Eastern Front. That is, he succeeded in shooting down a Russian fighter with the tank cannon. Of course, he was also helped by chance. This was how it happened. Kramer, upset by the unrelenting nuisance of these guys, elevated his cannon along the approach route. I talked him in. He took a chance and pulled the trigger. On the seco0nd attempt, he hit one of the 'bees' in its wing. The Russian crashed behind us."


Because of the situation on the front, the group had to move in September to the Staryi Bliznetzy airfield, but the stream of close air support missions continued, as the Axis forces in the sector were under a lot of pressure. When returning from one such mission, on 10 September, a very odd incident ocurred. The 16 Hs-129s were flying very low, as usual, at 10-15 m. From a cornfield, a camouflaged T-34 fired one shot, which cut off a part of the wing of the aircraft of Oblt. Dieter Orth, the German liason officer. The plane hit the ground and exploded instantly.

The key to your references are the altitudes. Firing at planes that far on the deck can be done by boys with shotguns from farmer's fields, and I have no problem with tanks getting kills on that. Move that up to 300-500m (1000ft+) at speed, and in hand cranked guns for early war tanks and see how possible it is.


50-75% kill rate for a single high speed pass of a JaBo at 250m is probably not accurate, or I doubt there would have been any need for AA vehicles, just use tanks. It would have been a far better kill rate than even the respective airforces could acheive.

Please tell me how you got all those anti Tank guns on the trailor. I suppose you had to edit the .mis file and used the tow/ command for the objects but how did you get more than one gun on the trailor? Please explain or show us the code you used in the .mis file or what ever you did to achieve this.

All I did was change the z offset for all of the (static) AT guns (in properties, while in the FMB) and moved them into position on the static truck and trailer.

If this doesn't help, let me know and I can elaborate.

I see, your using static objects that won't be moving . I thought the SdKfz9 and Trailor were taking those guns somewhere. I understand now.

Oh, they're going somewhere, they're just on a coffee break I guess ;)

Truth is.. I have no idea how to attach these things.. So far, I can attach a trailer to truck, but I can't manage to attach armor or AT guns to the trailer.

I've asked for help here (http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=28646) (<--Click), but no one has answered..

Not too concerned anymore, anyways, because I hear the ClOD project has been scrapped.
