Hello.if you look at my specs below, will installing a gtx 580 with 3 gigs of ram give me a noticable improvement in performance/fps on high/original settings? Thanks in advance

p.s. I've also pushed my cpu up to 3.6....I know its way slower than the intels out there running at 4.2, I just dont know if those that can play the game very well can do so because of much higher cpu speeds, or vram memory. thanks.

Not worth it IMHO. That 570 should be running it pretty well.

Edit: Also, your CPU should be adequate to handle it just fine I think. Especially once the long awaited graphical patch comes out soon... hopefully.

Hi ingsoc,

You have AMD PhenonII 6core 3.3 OC to 3.5/ 16gigs Corsair Vengeance 1600/ Geforce GTX570 1.28 Vram/Win 7 Pro 64bit/Samsung 23" 1920x1280

I would not bother to spend the money for a GTX580 3Gb since you may not notice so much difference to the GTX570 you already have.

It also depends on what you want to do. If you like strolling around watching the nice landscape at full graphics detail then probably it is worthwhile to buy te GTX580 3Gb.
If on the other side you want to dogfight, then you do not have eyes for the landscape but for the enemy planes then, your GTX570 1,3Gb is good enough.

I have two of the same card, I run the game in single GTX570 mode and I am waiting for the next generation of NV because the GTX580 does not have enough performance for the game for me.

Some tips:

I do not knwo how fast the harddisk you have the CoD game upon, is. Since you have a lot of RAM, I would suggest to read about how to created a RAMDRIVE and play the game from there in oprder to minimize any stutters (that is what I do)
The link wiht the explanations is at:

If you want to see how CoD looks with full details, watch Tuckie's youtube video, it is the best example and comparison I have ever seen (and in HD) {thanks Tuckie!}

For your GTX570 here are some settings that may help you:
(except for the resolution which you need to keep at lower settings) you should be getting 60+fps

Except for the lack of grass which makes take off and landing very sad looking, I have not felt any decrease in graphics quality while dogfighting (I do not spend too much time looking at the ground details though so I am not an expert).
What is more important, I have no longer fps drops when dogfithting low above towns with many aiplanes around. Before I had drops down to 18fps mainly due to the Grass and Buildings details but now I have 50fps low above cities and that is good enough and I am too busy to look at graphic ground details when hell is behind me...
And just to show the fps and graphics quality with MeshShowLod=1 <-this is an fps killer:

Happy flying!

Thanks very much for your help and taking the time to answer in such detail! ;)

I've been thinking of going the triple monitor route lately, how much performance decrease do you get with bumping your graphics details back up to high/medium for land shading and forests?

Hi Cheesehawk, the problem is the magic number on the very far right window (the NVIDIA Inspecor). If you read the "(Memory) Usage" it says 1213Mb 95% on a card which has 1290MB VRAM.

The moment you go over the available amount of VRAM your card has, your GPU starts swapping data in/out. Your fps are halved after that....
But the wost thing is that the game does not run smoothly but rather in a way of a strange stuttering which I can not explain in words....
After that you can not place a good deflection shot because you can not judge speed and movement of the target sufficiently.
This is the reason why I alway advice users for 3Gb GTX580 or 2.5Gb GTX570. But for me it is not worthwhile to upgrade as it will be a lot of money for only cosmetic improvement.
The next worst thing is that the dreaded memory leak will appear much faster.

To answer your question, I used to fly with settings like this
http://www.stoimenos.com/temp/CoD/Test02_SetCoD_3840x1024_3072x1024_BlackDeath_SLIno Shadows.jpg

I had 60fps high and 28fps over the seaside city near Manston but sometimes it went down to 18fps when many planes around.

What ruined my fun was the memory leak (I never fly that low so the low fps over the city was more of an exception than the rule).
Wth my new settings I can fly for a couple of hours before voluntarly resetarting CoD.
