View Full Version : So to do a un-install,clean all the files out and re-install...what's the method? :)

After reading a few threads saying that a clean install would reap benefits I wonder if someone could post the method to completely remove Cliffs of Dover from the PC so that no legacy files remain (except the conf.ini so all the joystick profiles are not deleted?) after which a new download from Steam should then be done.

Thanks for any help, cheers, MP

Well, to my surprise a reinstall gave me a brand new conf.ini with sections missing! I removed my "My Documents\1C*" and delete all local CoD content within Steam. Then I removed any leftovers of it in program files and did the full reinstall throguh steam again.

I did however get all my old key settings back because I have steam cloud enabled ;-) (nice feature...)

Current conf.ini after reinstall below:

As you can see the rts sections is quite different and misses the ticks and length options.

What's happens is the whole folder and contents of >

C:\Users\name\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\conf

if deleted is regenerated by the main installation >

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover

But the conf file in the main installation has some settings missing compared to the Documents folder conf file, so these are picked up and re-generated into the new conf in the documents folder with various other settings you may have applied to graphics or the CoD system under the GUI.

This is my old rts, I'm wondering if the missing strings are moved somewhere else now ?

After regenerating the C:\Users\name\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover a few times,
then flying and applying different GUI settings,
there's different conf files produced with parts missing.

It could be something significant or something insignificant...................off to find a wall to bang head.

So after a wile trying this and that I've decided to go drastic.
I took a new hard drive and went for a clean windows 7 64 pro install.
Added some memory 16 gb Corsair DDR3 PC 16000 cl9 ,xms3 and then did a complete new install of cod.
Before I would have launcher.exe crashes online almost immediately after joining a server.
Now this hasn't happened at all ( up to now)
So a clean install seems to work wonders.
Maybe its only the ram but I had to instal windows anyhow as the previous version was 32 bit.
Ill keep you all updated to wat happens next.
Greets,

Niels

Update 1

Well after around 4 hours of game play
I've encountered no cmd's game is very smooth one or two small freezes were encountered.
Reported frame rate is not very good between 25 and 33 fps but while playing I dint notice that.
Strangely enough frame rates are as such that when high up I get low frame rates and low down the better ones.
The Black track is played with no difficulties at all.
Will continue if there is interest.

Just did a clean install after purchasing a new ssd and im def getting better performance. I report a thumbs up.

Specifically, the "high" ground texture setting looks a lot better.
