This game has incredible potential. I fired it up for the first time and the complex engine managment had me shuffling through my air publication of the real life Spitfire pilot notes just to start the engine....i mean it dosent get any better then that.
Then Trackir worked without a hitch, fantastic sound engine, loads of control options, the cockpit detail, lighting and colors are dead on, the damage model is fantastic watching all the equipment fail, bullet holes right where the bullet hit, fabric coverings catching fire, incredible attention to detail.
IL2 Sturmovik die-hards, this is our new baby, support it, feed it, help it grow.
Definitley worth the $50
This is a flight simmers dream come true. I have faith that everyone will support this game and the community will be immense.

incredible attention to detail Absolutely. Somebody (Keller?) was saying on comms earlier tonight that when you drop bombs in the Stuka while the cockpit illumination is on, the lights dim because of the drain on the electrical system from the bomb release mechanism. Love it!
Earlier today I lit a Wellington on fire near the wing root and watched the fire spread across the whole aircraft as the crew bailed out.

Definitley worth the $50 Agree.

I think the trouble is the great bits of physics seem to have slightly blinded the devs to the many more mundane but intensely annoying faults.
Don't get me wrong, I really want this to succeed and wish them well, but there are many critics who are happy with less of a sim, more of a game. They're probably the majority of buyers.
Sometimes the market favours the lowest-common-denominator. I just hope Ilya and co are getting enough money in from Russian sales to sort this sim out. Once they do it will be truly great.

+1. Agree strongly.
I'm as hardcore for realism as it gets. I well appreciate the OP's enthusiasm for all the detailed aspects of this sim because I share that enthusiasm. But to your point, there's a huge potential in attracting the "crank 'n bank" crowd who love the eye candy but are more interested in gameplay (read: instant gratification).
I see nothing wrong with that, to the contrary that's very, very good in bringing more players into the fold and - importantly - more money in sales. Although I personally don't have a need to acquire rank, medals, or points in a campaign.....there are many who do appreciate these methods of measuring success. It's all good. We need a number of different Campaigns for each side that would appeal to different styles of play. Even a silly one with the Spitfire girl or a challenge to fly under a bridge would have an appeal to certain players -- as long as there also are Campaigns that truly are Battle of Britain authentic.

True. It has a lot of potential, but they're are a lof of bugs that need to be squashed first. The game got better after a considerable amount of patches. The game enigine itself however is the biggest thing that needs fixing and optimization.
It's far from optimal and far worse than il2 was 10+ years ago. Even with the latest hardware, you still get stutters and sometimes single digits fps. I'm eagerly waiting for the next patch that hopefully has some AI and game engine fixes.
Right now, it's still not stable and sometimes crashes to desktop. It has weird and sometimes completely unexpected stutters.
I suspect the move from OpenGL to DirectX and multi threading was a bit harder then they imagined. I sincerely hope they will be able to fix it.

Games crash all the time, Battlefield 3 crashes on exit, startup and sometimes in game.
Patches started to fix these issues.
Cod crashes sometimes and has strange preformance dips which EVERYONE has mentioned so hopefully the patches will help.
Besides all this Cliffs of Dover is a great game, thats the point of this thread is to make sure people especially new pilots realize that. The hate threads kind of tarnish the CLOD image and turn people away from the start. Thats not what this community needs, CLOD is our only option currently for a next generation WW2 Flight sim and we need to stick with it because of the strong legacy of the IL2 series.

I agree. The game needs some things fixed, but that's true though.
