Here I go again. :-P
No seriously, I'm interested.
I'm interested in the baseline and how game developers decide on minimum requirements.

According to 1C and Ubi the minimum requirements to run CloD is

Windows XP SP3
Intel Dual-Core 2.o GHz
2 GB RAM
ATI 4850 512MB GDDR

So for this machine to run CloD I guess all video settings are set to lowest possible (uuggglyyyyy) and spawnhumans=0 and all other bling bling is switched off in game and on card.

So my question is, with a minimum requirement system, will I be able to participate in 128 online players battle at the resolution of 1920 (4850 max res) with an avg framerate of 25 or higher or...
...am I only able to fly solo over water without clouds at a resolution of 1024 and a framerate of avg 10 - 20?

In short, what do 1C and Ubi mean with running the game/sim in regards to fps and resolution??

Anyone who has this system that can try it out?

What I consider solid is 30 FPS. If you put a limiter on 30FPS and it doesn't drop below that on minimum settings on a minimum system. Otherwise it really isn't fun to play, the further you advance in fighter to fighter action, you really want the game to have fluent FPS, otherwise you can forget shooting form angles and turns.

My experience, maybe some people can live with 15-20 FPS, I can't.

I have about the same rig as you, but my core 2 duo is overclocked at 4ghz and I have 4GB ram on Windows 7. I have the same graphics card (/ ATI spaceheater)

After an insane amount of tweaking / and optimising including using things like Process Lasoo and getting deep into the guts of windows 7 I can get consistent mid 20's at 1280 x 1024 with the following settings:

SSAO: Off
Ep Filter: Off
Model Detail: High
Building Detail: Low or Medium
Land Detail: Medium
Forest Detail: Low or Medium
Visual Effects: High
Damage Decals: High
Building Amount: Unlimited
Land Shading: Medium
Grass: On
Shadows: On
Roads: On

I also run the FXAA tweak

Now the sensible thing to do would have been to not invest as much time in getting the game to run 'ok' with those settings it would have been to buy a new rig but there are a couple of considerations #1 I don't want to / can't afford to upgrade my rig at the moment #2 I have actually really enjoyed / learnt a lot from the tweaking process!
By turning off things such as grass, trees and land shading I can get the FPS comfortably into a solid 40's but I really like the eye candy and can put up with the compromise on frame rate.

Hope this is useful.

Regards Mike

blackmme, my specs aren't the minimum I posted. My specs are in my sig.
But you're saying you got CloD working ok with close to minimum at 1280?

Could you give a qualified guess on what fps would be with your system at standard clock speed and lowest possible video settings?

Well 'ok' is entirely subjective of course! It runs acceptably for me but you or someone else might consider it unacceptable. I certainly get stuttering low down but then so do people with top end rigs so I live with it. I should also make the point that my Win7 install is more or less a 'Cliffs of Dover Appliance' the whole OS is tweaked with CoD in mind.

As for what performance is like I am going to guess that on a 2ghz C2D its going to be high teens / twenties with the graphics wound back, getting worse when you are dogfighting in SP due to the added overhead of the AI.
I don't think the 4850 is a particular handicap, with the texture settings on medium its 512mb seems able to cope.

Quite honestly I wasn't really expecting to be able to run CoD at all so it's a real bonus for me. I am pitching my next PC upgrade around the requirements for ARMA 3 and the hopefully soon to be announced Rome Total War 2. I'm sure whats blazing for them will work nicely for CoD.
