View Full Version : Thanks to the ATAG server

I spent an entire Saturday on the ATAG dedicated server and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Not only were my fellow pilots mature, courteous, and had a great sense of humor, but the ATAG fellas that were there were patient and attentive when anyone encountered any hiccups. To give an example, I couldn't join a newly restarted round because there was a "ghost" version of myself still lingering on the server -- they restarted the round again to clear the problem. The response could've easily been "Yeah, bummer...wait it out, I guess." That's pretty cool if you ask me.

I was also kicking myself for not getting online sooner. We were getting pretty technical calling out headings and altitudes, organizing raids across the channel, and calling out targets and each other. I believe there was some formation flying at some point. I'm forgetting names, but I particularly enjoyed our little shipping raid where two Blenheims attempted some skip-bombing against German cargo ships. Most of the time we were just fending off the endless attacks by those pesky Hun over Hawkinge. That airfield must have a giant sign on it that says "Kick Me". Completely fine with it though as for the majority of the time I flew my ROTOL Hurricane out of Manston.

So yeah. I saw that "demand" for a fix down below, and while I completely agree that it would be amazing to have some well overdue fixes in this game, there is still some fun to be had. Trust me, I normally always play singleplayer, but my experience on Saturday pretty much has me converted. It was great. Didn't mean to be inflammatory, that last one, I'm just trying to glean something good. Patches are needed, no one is arguing.

I'll probably see some people I flew with next Saturday as well, if not sooner. Well done!

I agree. This weekend was my first time there off and on and they are top shelf people there. Enjoyed it.

And obviously some of them know where they are by town name or what the location is named which I don't and I found amazing. Was looking for a 1940 Channel map from the game I saw once here on my laptop so I could have it running next to me. :)

Spot on comments.
I've always had a great time on the ATAG server - even when there is only a few flyers on as there is always AI bombers to deal with.

Good stuff ATAG folks!

Hey Mr Greezy

Yeah great flying with you on Sat. As one of the blenheim pilots I particularly appreciated the escort across the ditch! I'm still learning the whole skip-bombing thing though, I should probably focus more on my bombing run and less on my enthusiastic "dah dah dahhhh'ing" the theme song to dambusters while I line up the target! :-P

Highlight of the day for me: seeing ATAG Spin chase a 109 off my tail, go into a climb and shoot him down. Nothing too rare about that, except that Spin was in another Blenheim at the time!

all in all a great session. As you said the guys the server attracts are a good bunch and the server is run really well too. I know my aussie squad (RAAF) only fly on ATAG.

Long may it continue!

The most important one is the 109 magnet Hawkinge near the town Falkstone at the coast m, West of Dover .

Thanks fellas. We are trying to make it fun for you :)

MrGreezy - It was a pleasure meeting you last weekend. I'm glad you're a convert! Things will only get better. When you get the teamwork/tactics part going, that's what it's all about IMO.

Thanks!

Totally agree. The ATAG server is pure fun with a great bunch of peeps.

I only started flying online about a week and a half ago. The only server I have been on since is ATAG. No dissing the other servers at all, they are a welcome sight in a growing game.

I jumped on comms within the ATAG community and I can tell you that between the joking, calling targets, etc.....you can learn a bunch from these chaps. Great bunch, which makes it all the more enjoyable.

Their website is outstanding as well.

Great job guys, keep up the great work. :)

Hello Bliss. As you know, I've been on your server quite a few times but noticed early on that you were using ventrilo.

I uninstalled TS3 and downloaded Ventrilo, but it seems that you're now back to TS3.

Will I need to keep both installed, just in case, or have you settled for one or the other?

Cheers,

Dutch

+1

I've always had a great flying experience on the ATAG server, especially when connecting up on Teamspeak3 (before that Ventrilo). There's always someone in a Blenheim looking for an escort and I make great "109-bait" to clear the way for 'em! :)

I'd love to fly on your server but i too get very high ping around 150 as well and it give me lots of freezes, is there anyway within my steam/game settings to try to rectify this?

That rises the question whether the freezes are related to the server/ping or due to stability problems of the game itself ?

The freezes are very like we used to get in old IL2, when somebody spawned.

This happened even with very low pings like say 50 or so.

They do seem to freeze for a bit longer in Cliffs though.
