This is so simple - yet many may overlook it when trying to install the patch into a steam version. Hope it helps somebody. And thanks to Chivas who pointed me in the right direction.

What usually works in this case is right clicking on the download zip, select properties, and click on

"Unblock" and hit OK. This will allow all the files to be downloaded into the game. This is a problem usually associated with Vista and Windows 7 systems.

Thats it! Thats it.

I had tried until i was practically pulling my hair out. Even uninstalled and reinstalled the game.

It would start to load, id get the yellow cross hairs, and then it would "disappear". CTDT.

Im running windows 7 64 bit. I selected properties, and unblocked the zip file.

Unzipped it into the steam folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover

It took a minute or two and then it booted up fine.

Hope this might help somebody else.

How do I know if Steam downloaded the patches to CofD?

Beta patches have to be installed manually.

Official patches are d/led automatically. The version number appears in the lower right corner on the main menu screen. It is hard to see.It is dark red on a black background.
