Alright gents,

It's that time again! I'm putting together another series of historical missions covering the Sicily invasion that will span roughly 10 - 12 missions. Operations are set to begin on September 25th at 10:30pm EST for those forum dwellers who might be interested.

If you'd like to participate, please let me know and I can give you more details.

Also, the B-17G will be used for these historicals and if you are interested and don't have the unlock, I'm currently in the process of doing some B-17 unlock runs with the next one "penciled" in for Wednesday, 7th at 10:30pm EST.

It'll be good to have you on board Joe! I'll add you to my friends list if you aren't there already and add you to the message list for updates. You"ll need the following planes unlocked for this series.

Axis: Bf 109 (up to G-6), Fw 190 A-5, M.C. 202

Allied: B-17, A-20, Blenheim, Spitfire Mk. IX (with bomb), P-51B (may not be used, but have it just in case)

If you don't currently have the B-17, I'll be running the 4th of 6 runs tonight at 10:30pm EST with the 5th run likely to be tomorrow night at the same time. If you have questions or need help unlocking any other plane, let me know and I'll help you out with that as well.

All matches will be played on arcade difficulty, but we always play with limited fuel and ammo, so you have to make those shots count, lol! You are free to re-spawn as much as you want, so when you run out of ammo, simply bail and get a fresh plane. I'll send out a chat invite on the night of the historical just before 10:30 EST and once we have enough people, I'll go over any special rules and team setups, complete with a brief historical background on the mission prior to start. Typically we do about 2 missions a night wrapping up around midnight EST. If you have any questions for me, just post them here or send me a message via PSN. Looking forward to have you with us!!!

I'll be there. I have all your plane requirements. Just a suggestion: Why don't we disable HUD to make the scenario more realistic? I suppose a team won't have a mix of allied and axis planes?

Glad to hear you have all the planes and no there won't be a mix of planes on each team! I sent you a friend request when I got on last night, so once you accept that, I'll start sending you update messages. As for the HUD suggestion, we actually did that in our last series with the Battle of Stalingrad and I have been debating whether to do it again. I actually enjoyed playing that way, but the only issue I had was that it made recognizing teammates very hard and so I have decided to bring it to the group to vote on later as we get closer to start-up. I'm planning on setting up a group meeting in chat a few days before we begin to go over a few things as well as bring this topic up. So just make sure to attend that meeting, so your vote can be counted.

UPDATE:
Due to a conflict on September 25th, I am currently looking into moving the start date up a few days to possibly the 20th or 21st. Once I have a definitive date, I'll post it up!

Barring any other unforeseen changes, the Invasion of Sicily will officially begin on Tuesday, September 20th at 10:30pm EST!

I'd like to take the time to thank all of the participants for our first gathering of the Invasion of Sicily historical missions last night! We had a full house and even when we lost two people after the first mission, two more joined for a total of 18 people participating in the first night! I hope to keep that going for the remaining 14 missions! Once again thank you all!!!

Simply enjoyable. The full HUD off made it realistic and you can feel the difficulty of the WWII pilots in spotting the enemy. However, the B17 kamikaze into targets was unreal. How do we simulate the refueling and rearming? Suggest we discourage bailing out in flight when out of ammo. Instead, pilots should land in a designated friendly airfield then bail out once he lands. Thanks Ruff for your initiatives.

Glad you are enjoying them Joe! As for the B-17s, yeah I was going to ask the guys to stop crashing into targets at our next gathering. As for bailing out in flight, I will put it to a vote to see if the rest of the guys are cool with that! I'm ok with it as it is, but a little more realism wouldn't hurt and if the majority of the guys are cool with it, then I have no problem incorporating it! I think however, instead of landing at an airfield though, I'll suggest, they would only be able to bail near their own spawn area. Thanks for the suggestion!

Wouldn't it be cool if some of us BOP gamers are actually reincarnated WWII pilots?

Great send off to the IoS series last night. Thanks again Ruff for all your hard work in preparing and and organizing these historical recreations. Looking forward to Korsun and re-booting the BoB on realistic.

Much respect

No problem StiC! It's always great to create something and have other people get enjoyment from what you've done! As I've said on many occasions, I enjoy doing the research and development almost as much as like I doing the missions themselves.

As for the BoB realistic series, I really want us to get serious about getting that off the ground! So if you, WalterNowotony and jubei can get some guys from the realistic crowd, I'll work on the arcade side. I can tell you right now besides myself and you, sanibelfam, and Ferrbawlz3 have already said, they're on board. So if you add to that jubei, R-BADD, Walter and trvrgunning5, all of whom I'd be surprise would turn that down, that's 8 people right there! Once we get a decent sized group together, we can start running the BoB in a week or less! I just need time to go back in and add objectives to the missions as Stalingrad was the first series to incorporate objective scores. I'll go ahead and start that process the next time I get time and so once again, lets try and get the BoB realistic series off the ground! Start gauging interest and keep me posted via the forum or PSN!
