Well, I saw the thread entitled "Guys" and saw some speed test results. I was wondering who the 'ideal' hoast is, among us. Maybe we can share better and cheaper internet deals as well? :)

I'm not just being nosy, honest! ;-)

Mine:
http://www.speedtest.net/
Ping: 44ms
Download: 9.4Mbps
Upload: 840kbps

http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/
Ping: N/A
Download: 9.3Mbps
Upload: 857Kbps

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/diagnostics
Ping: N/A
Download: 9.27Mbps
Upload: N/A
Stream: (1)8Mbps (2)9.4Mbps

If you're in the UK (apologues my continental friends, and those from across the "pond") then I suggest this: http://www.uswitch.com/broadband/speedtest/ it's a good site that can help find some better and faster deals - with a map that will show how fast neighbours are getting (had they used the same speed test).

Just remember to check if your area can actually support 20mbps deals before buying one and only getting a fraction. Also, routers can slow networks down.. If your supposed to be getting a much faster speed, try missing out the router and plugging an ethernet straight into the back of your computer - it should then show a true speed on a speed test.

(I did all the tests with this (http://www.broadbandstuff.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=84&gclid=CInq_pWvzaoCFUMf4QodjFaH0g) router, the Netgear DG834. They were all wireless and at the same point in the house. My PS3 is wired, and I'll speed test that tomorrow)

You like in the UK Scottyvt4, right?

If so, as I posted in the first thread, check out this: http://www.uswitch.com/broadband/speedtest/

Great site to see what your neighbours are getting, will help determining your area speed limit or your router!

I currently get 28 mbps download and around 8mbps upload (I'm supposed to get 35 Mb D/L 15 Mb up). I have fibre optic (BT Infinty), it's pretty good. In practice it means I can download 3Gb in about 15 mins via PSN. A good torrent to my PC flys down.. 200mb file in about 10 seconds :)

I'll definitley be hosting some Birds of steel games, not really hosted many BoP games, I let the regulars do it. Maybe next time there's a few on I'll try hosting and see if it makes a difference.
