Can we get reasons for your choices?
For a long time I couldn't fly anything but the Allies, mostly western (USA/GB). I felt I couldn't play an emulation of the armed forces of the countries that did all those horrible things. These days I still have a very healthy preference for western allies, then IJN then other Axis, but will fly any side for online balance.
Although I've been reading about Japan's participation and absolutely appalling ethical conduct during WWII, I am really interested in carrier warfare, so that's why the IJN preference over other Axis powers.
I'm particularly curious to hear about those that choose the LW :)

why the LW? becouese i like the planes the most. big guns and balanced performence and maneuverabilty. I tned not to like the allied planes becouse they tned to have to much maneuverability and too less speed, or the other way around.

why i chose the Luftwaffe, desing and performance of the planes, i feel extremly confortable fly an Me-109 or Fw-190, both planes are beautyfully designed, and i don't like wing mounted guns as most of the allied planes have, IMO the 190's gun placement is just perfect, concentrate fire power very eficiently, and i can't deal with imperial messure system

If appalling ethical conduct in WWII would be a factor in choosing the faction, we would all fly bf 109E with swiss markings. But maybe you are not talking about the armys, but about the government?
I choose the axis because I am German and Swiss ;) and beacause I prefere to have speed instead of tight turn capability. I also like the 20mm. When it comes to the Pacific, I choose F4 over zero any day

Voted RAF, as I first started flying Hurries and Spits in COD.
Otherwise I don't have much preference, I'll fly both sides equally, Im starting now to fly the 109 a lot (being Swiss I like the E-3 (http://www.swissmustangs.ch/mediac/400_0/media/109.jpg) a lot).
Next will be the 110, then Stuka and bombers.
What I like in COD is that I'm really enjoying learning each plane and taking some time to master it a bit before jumping to the next one. I still haven't dropped a single bomb in the game, so there's a lot I still have to do.
Back in the days of Their Finest Hour on the Amiga I loved to bomb ships in a Bf-110 as part of ErpGr 210, looking forward to do it in COD too :)

S!
Luftwaffe. Messerschmitts and Focke Wulfs just look like war machines and they had some advanced stuff in them for that time. Has nothing to do with ANY political or other things. Period.

Despite RAF having the edge in the poll nobody seems to admit choosing them? is there a stigma?

No, I guess the majority just don't feel the need to justify the choice! ;)

I fly both red n blue really.
I too love the german bird but it all depends on what servers I play on..if I'm on a dogfight island map il take the hurri as it's the only plane the servers include which is half decent for the Reds..
However if I'm on the channel maps il take the E-1 just because you can dive hit and run, if you get caught with an EA co alt you can generally get away and of course the firepower especially if the 190 gets in.
I like to fly both as you aquire different skills, the way I fly is completely different between red n blue

Spit or Hurricane because I'm Bwitish. Although in IL2 '46 with Germany v Russia I fly Luftwaffe because our royal family are German and only related to the Russians.

I have yet to fly the Hurri online but after hearing people complain about the spit 1a i decided to take it for a spin and I have now got quite a few kills in it, so it might not fly like it should but it certainly isn't a bad aircraft to fly online by any stretch of the imagination...

Eh yes, the sound of this Merlins is something very special. Already in theme sound, after one of the few raids of the C.A.I. over Harwich with BR 20s by Nov 1940, the local Newpapers reported at morning that the bombers sounded like ‘rattling tin cans’ when they found out that Italians were responsible for keeping them awake.

RAF.
a) I'm Canadian and I like to pretend I'm flying as an RCAF pilot
b) There's something about a Spitfire. It's more than its statistical abilities and merits and flaws as a flying machine. It's the difference between driving a highly efficient Audi and driving a wonderfully handcrafted Morgan. Dunno.
c) I can understand the radio chatter without having to read the text!

Luftwaffe all the way. I am german. I am no nationalist or something. But for some reason i always tend to play my country. ROF was the same. Even thou the allied side had(s) the better planes).

I choose Regia Aeronautica because the shock hasn't worn off (of them being in BOB).

Luftwaffe, ofcourse.
In IL2 days I flew LW for the same reason I always flew the Emire forces in Star Wars games. Also, imo the German machinery is the best in the world. When I buy anything (I mean anything , a blender, trousers, you name it) I always prefer made in DE label. Through the years though I learned so much about the German WWII planes and I grew to love em even more. To add to that they always have fit my style of flying - I don`t really enjoy a T&B fights as much as outsmarting my enemy, attacking him unnoticed.
I must say that the Battle of Britain tempted me a lot. It`s the connection with Polish pilots I wanted to feel. Finally I reserved that for offline, while in online flying I consider myself a very good pilot and supporting the fellow Luftwaffles in online wars is the only natural thing to do. Not to mention hearing from the old LW buddies I haven`t played with since 2007.
The option trash bin is missing!

Give me a Squadron of Spitfires
This scene as related by Galland is well documented and certainly had taked place the Aug 25, 1940. The next day all Bf 109 were instructed to flight close to the bombers. Curious, I have never read wich was the reaction or commentary of Mölders after Galland request.

As an Italian, I chose the Regia Aeronautica just for the BR-20M, as the G.50 is... well, you know what.
But I rather like the Fiat bomber, it seems like a stable and good looking plane.
But most of all, I would like to fly in a CR 42. I guess our pilots really had some guts to go up with those against radar guided Spitfire IIs with a speed difference of about 150 km/h.
It would be also cool to create some early war desert clashes between the Falcos and the Gladiators.
But I admit that I mostly fly for the Royal Air Force: I just love their planes, I always did. I love the quirkiness of the Defiant for example (it should be flyable), or the beauty of the Spitfire, the ruggedness of the Hurricane, the elegance of the Gladiator.
Cheers
