I believed that wreckage recovery was forbidden / very difficult in UK due to the war graves law.

Well the pilot bailed in this case, so they don't expect to find a body :) Unless I'm misunderstanding you?

I remember my Dad taking me to Rye Police Station in the '80s to see recovered wreckage from a Spitfire. The pilot hadn't bailed from this one.

It will be televised next year apparently. Part of a series of WW2 related digs.

the only point of danger and caution when digging relics, other than the possibility to find the pilot's rests, is the handling of unexploded ordnance/ammunition. In the case of cannons, the amount of explosives present in the shells can still be very dangerous, both for the instability of explosives left to the elements and because of the amount of them.

Why go though all this when you could do this (http://www.supermarineaircraft.com/About.htm).
Much much cheaper and a lot easier and I can't tell a difference. The Spit lives again in Texas.
