Just so you don't stop being carefull about viruses, I just got hit...Worst attack of my life...infected all exe's or almost...jumped from one disk to another...anti-virus like it wasn't there...
I'm reformating my disks now, fortunately most of everything has either been backed up or is otherwise available. But the time...to set it back...
Stay sharp !

Goes without saying to be honest.

That doesn't cause virusses on my pc...
worst virus I ever had was a replaced background which said: your computer has been infected with a virus, run a virus scan and it will be okay.
But that was because I tried to download the full version of fraps......

The attack is so severe and complete that the only possible thing to do is reformat...
Security is first utterly wiped out (Windows security essentials and firewall, all updated), then disks are prevented from copying...some executables cannot start from one directory but can from another...Disks which are accessed are then infected...Firefox shows all kinds of fake or real adds for any address you try...
Maybe they'll talk about it on the news...but I didn't catch its name...
This could be weapons testing...Its too professionnal for it to be just from a hacker...
Its partly my fault, I ran a downloaded executable from a popup, and for the life of me I cannot remember what it was. Something I have never done before, but you know what the moral of this story is.
If I remember, I will post it...

F8 when the computer starts, go to Safe Mode with Networking, download, install and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (www.malwarebytes.or) and Spybot Search & Destroy), and you SHOULD get rid of it.
Oh, and which antivirus are you using?

Yep. Only antivirus I run is Microsoft's Security Essentials. I've never needed anything else, and I shun every single "Internet Security"-application like it's the plague (Actually, they ARE a plague!). Buy a good, hardware-based firewall, and use something as uncommon as common sense when surfing the web, and you won't have any issues.

In this particular case I guess it won´t solve anything. Essential OS files are lost, and the registry itself it's probably damaged with lot's of spyware/malware entries. I'm running a Russian security software for some years now and I am quite happy with the results. The security flaws I had in my system were always user fault.
Regards.

Sadly I've seen a couple of machines in the last week that the virus affects in safe mode, you have to edit some registry settings to be able to run anything before you can get rid.
One of the fake antivirus 2012 suites is doing it, just another hoop to jump through but it will confuse a lot of people.

sorry m8 i know what a PITA that is.
I run a dual boot, win7 for games only and ubuntu for all else.
You might give it a try, its free after all :)
S!
p.s could you tell us if see any performance difference in CLOD after the fresh install? preferable installing the game right after all the drivers and before any AV malware or any other programs get installed.
thnx
