Normally I rock around 80-120 fps. During both multiplayer and single missions, this occurs which results in dropping to around 10fps

It clears up after a bit but maybe this may help...

With what resolution and what video settings do you use?? Because i can´t get to 80fps (not even over the sea in free flight).
I use 1920x1200 and everything maxed out.

Im using 1920x1080 60hrz (native to my monitor)
Everything max and turned on, including AA. (I hear AA doesnt work tho?)
Here is my Black Death track report...
Average: 50
Max: 143
Min: 14
Ran it three times, average and max were give or take 5fps, but min was 14 each time, and only for a couple of seconds where a british plane is taking off and a bomb explodes taking up the entire view area. The following carpet comb sequence plays around 33fps and once the dust settles its back to the average and higher.
