i heard accounts of piltos that when negative g that pencil you lost weeks ago would magically float

how about soemthing floating in the cockpit so you could make parabolic flight?

btw i bet theres no zero gravity flim that lasts longer than a parabolic flight

space yeah:rolleyes:

This is the most annoying thing as being an aircraft technician, cleaning the cockpit for pencils, pens, paperclips, tobacco, gum and piss (yes, they tend to miss the small relief-bags).

Raaaid, what are the chances, that when doing negative G's, an object is going to float up and land at the exact same spot without being trapped, so it can repeat the next time?

Surely with your imagination raaaid you must be able to think this one out for yourself?

sincerely: if they ever did a 3D pilot inside the cockpit, belts and loose clothing hanging upwards would be a nice touch ...

EDIT:

Pilots are under strict discipline to not have any loose objects in the cockpit because:

1: It's distracting

2: It can go anywhere, jam anything and cause the pilot a really bad day.

Recently I read about a flashlight that was stuck in the tail section of a small plane that prevented the elevators from returning to neutral while in flight. Seems the pilot lost it but then during this emergency realized where he left it. :)

Raaaid in a world where the only limit is your imagination, this is your future flight-simulator :)

Not really related (as I haven't lost any flashlight) but sometimes (happened atleast twice) my rudder stucks and I trim and trim but plane still drifts. Then I jerk the rudder some and it pops back to normal. :-O

I seem to remember reading about someone looping a Walrus (!) - not a good idea, as it resulted in a shower of nuts, bolts and seawater...

Yes, having loose objects rattling around in the cockpit really isn't a good idea. Hence the Soviets equipping the TB-3 with a magnetic pencil.

Once upon a time, I was riding in the back seat of a beat up old Cessna 172 while two buddies up front were flying. This plane didn't have any headset jacks in back, so I couldn't hear what they were saying. I was just checking out the scenery and enjoying the ride. We were taking an easy trip over to another airport restaurant and back.

One guy up front turned around and said something to me, then faced forward again. I was just reaching up to tap him on the shoulder and say "what?" when buddy #2 suddenly took us into zero-G. Of course I wasn't belted in, so I levitated about a foot off the seat. He wasn't too smooth with the maneuver, so we actually got some negative G's and fishtailed around some, kicking up a handful of dirt. I started to cuss him out when the chocks that had been sitting in the baggage area floated forward and knocked me in back of the head. Then he finally got worried about the engine coughing from fuel starvation, so he leveled out and I landed sideways in the seat with the chocks' rope tangled around my arm.

Lessons learned all over the place. That could have gone wrong in so many ways...

Airplanes are fun.

which is why loose objects in fighters are a huge no-no

:D reminded me of saburo Sakai's book where he mentions flying a bomber escort and forgetting his altitude so when ge opened his fizzy drink it blew up and covered his cockpit in a film of sugar, I think that was the mission that he dived on some SBD and caught a bullet in the face. He was blinded in one eye and paralysed on his left side, still somehow managed to get home, very lucky.
