Sold my old rig for € 400
Looking for a new one now.

Will be one with i7-2600K 3,4 Ghz and GTX590 3GB.

PC comes with 8GB DDR 1333Mhz.
I can upgrade to 16GB for € 90 extra.
Will I see considerable effect on FPS playing missions with around 50 aircraft?

-> congrats!

Looking for a new one now.

-> Excellent choice!

PC comes with 8GB DDR 1333Mhz.
-> which is good
I am not good in maths, I presume this means 666MHz RAMs (x2 = 1332) thus my recommendation would be to go for 1600MhZ RAM (800MHz x2) in order to be able to overclock your CPU the day you feel like it.

I can upgrade to 16GB for € 90 extra. Will I see considerable effect on FPS playing missions with around 50 aircraft?
-> I do not think so.
But with more RAM you could set up big RAMDISKs (I have one 6Gb RAMDISK on my system), it is a nice option if you have Gb to spare.

It will be 4 x 4GB 1333Mhz which makes 16GB 1333Mhz total, right?
I assume the more GB the better, isn't it ?

What is a RAMDISK ?

what it means is that the RAM is called DDR2 and the speed of the chips is 666MHz doubled (that is 2x666 = 1333MHz)

What I was saying is that it is better invest a little bit of money extra and go for DDR2 800MHz otherwise called 1600 (2x800=1600) RAM becuase it will be easier to overclock your system later if you may desire, without too much trouble up to about 3,6 - 3,9GHz.

Yes, the more the better, we are in the Gigabytes now so, it will take a few years until games or other applications can use the 8Gb you already have, so much longer for 16Gb.

It goes without saying that you need to install Win7-64bit on your machine (winXP, win7-32bit will only see 3Gb of RAM, irrespective of how much you have installed).

RAMDISK is a technick that uses some of your RAM in order to make a virtual hard disk. It behaves like a hard disk but it is extremely fast because it runs on RAM.
Sometimes people use it in order to speed up the loading time of their games (the game loads probably 10times faster from the RAMDISK than from a normal hard disk). If you do know about it, it is no relevent for you.

Summarizing:
1. Better 8Gb 1600 RAM
2. If money not an issue, better 16Gb 1600 RAM
3. 16Gb 1333 RAM
4. 8Gb 1333 RAM
-- (no ranking) 8Gb or 16Gb will play no role to how many aiplane you will be able to load in missions

My personal advice regarding priorization.

Either case, it will be a terrific machine!
