View Full Version : Great Sounds (Which is good since thats all that happens)

Going against my better judgement, despite all the problems posted, my love of flight sims overcame my brain. I went a bought CoD. So, it came as no great suprise that it doesn't work. Frustrating as hell, but no suprise.

My pc is definately lower end, but I've been able to play recent titles, Crysis 2, Blink, Need for Speed Shift, for example, with varying degrees of decent graphics and acceptable framerates.

Now we get to CoD. This is what happens:

-Game loads up.

-Monitor goes black, clicks, and comes back on.

-Message pops up "display driver nvlddmkm", something, something about recovering from a problem and restarting successfully.

-Game loads to menu's

-Take your pick of what selected.

-Game loads to 100%

-Im back at desktop listening to the game.

-Cntrl+alt+del to taskmanager out to get control of mouse and shut down game.


So far I have tried:

-The steam verify files.

-Trying the deleting cache trick.

-Reinstalled graphics drivers fresh.

-Still the same problem.

Anyway 512 gb vram is too little for this game.

Make sure you have directx 10 set in conf.ini.
Then edit conf.ini to launch the game in really small window like 800x600 in windowed mode just for a test. It helps with unsupported or low-end cards.

When your graphics issue is sorted you will need to overclock your processor to at least 3ghz (I recommend 3.4+) to play some intense missions with many AI.

I can get acceptable frame rates with 512MB vram, at 1920*1080.

Well, unfortunately, Im limited severly by budget constraints and will have to forgo food for a week or two to cover the cost of the new card.

Im guessing by the tone of your response Im in for a CFS1 type experience with the new card?

Well, I am afraid that you will be dissapointed with the performance, true.

Actually, it is the combination of high resolution with high graphics that causes people a lot of problems. Nobody wants to fly anything less than 1600x resolution....

If you stay on the smaller resolutions 1024x you will probably be allright.

I was having the same issues as you. I was running Windows 7 however it was a 32 bit version. Thus I was not utilizing enough of my ram I had available. I updated to the 64 bit version that utilizes all of my ram and I have absolutely no issues anymore. I would look at these two things. Your Windows and the amount of ram you have. I hope this helps you.

One can run this game with pretty crappy hardware but the beauty is when you can max most or everything. Anything less would be like banging Britney Spears wearing a blindfold (you, not her). ;-)

Not less than 560 for 1600+ resolutions imho. And for this price range I would recommend to go for an ATI.

It could be more cost effective though to buy a 2nd hand CRT monitor and play in 1024 resolution :)
