Hello,
I have been wondering if the use of H L without Steam would allow the moders to use there mods without having the worries of the ban system that is in place through steam.
As the use of unchecked mods will bring this sim to the state of IL2 very poor numbers online and little chance of finding servers without the use of said mods.
I know this is a big deal to the modders as they feel they saved IL2 1946 but the numbers
just show thats not so. Pre mod early 2008 always had between 9-14 hundred onliners on
weekends down to current 3-4 hunded onliners mostly using the must have mod servers.
I for one will not buy this sim if moders are allowed to run amuck again.

i think the mod situation is a give and take. Some like them and some dont.i agree with the fact that there were more people flying when we were all using same version (NO mods) like in the Pacific fighter days. but i dont know or can prove if they have declined because of mods. I think it declined because the game got old.
As for the mods ruining the game? i dont think so because "some" mods have been approved and are being used by the "TD" crew who bring us the patches from what i understand.
but..i do know that Cliffs of Dover is open to mods from what i have read in forums.

According to Oleg iirc the plan was to have officially approved mods (that can not be used for cheating) compatible with Steam VAC and not official mods that can be potentially exploited by cheaters that you can use on your own risk. I think we will be there one day.
Oleg's concern was that CFS2 online was ruined by uncontrolled moding. Thus it will be controlled.

I don't know about hyperlobby support, but in the Steam/Valve/VAC games I play if you use the switch '-insecure' it disables VAC. Server and client have to be same, insecure client can not connect to VAC server, etc...
I suspect the approving of mods by the dev team won't really happen terribly fast (even when SDK is released) as I really don't see the dev team having a ton of time/manpower to approve/deny/check all mods, hopefully I am wrong.

i love hypperlobby and its 1946-mods..yes i was there in the days of 800-900 at weekends . VOW ..ect...but like already said the game got old , for me the mods have kept.. il-2 .. alive and kicking ..some of the maps and a/c are awesome ..great skins and flying online with 30+ enemy a/c is a thrill ..and proper missions to follow to win the online game ..can't beat it ...after all that s why we are all here ..to compete

I strongly hope that devs won't EVER give unlimited approval to modder.
It's time for those guys to stop hijacking ppl works and customer money. The free soft comm still wait for a valuable freeware Mil sim. They hve plenty to do in this direction if they really want to help.
If a particular mod is allowed on CoD it might be with full responsibility of 1c not only for the quality of its contain ( no one can't say that CoD user are not comprehensive with soft glitch and patient) but for being in line with players expectation as it was advertized on release.
I like HL but it was an unsecured mess.
I hate hving to run steam on my computer with this stupid marketing soft running in bckgrnd.... but it provide some security against cheater and it's SAFE !

Im an old boy from Fire Squadron, "Skies of Fire" servers and its been hard for the guys in our squad that manage our servers to keep re-doing stuff when mod patches come out. It's especially hard now we have 3-4 distinct routes to choose which are not compatible. HSFX, UP2, UP3 or stock.
While I have long enjoyed the odd mod on our servers, I'd be happier in COD to see more players online with more detailed maps than more mods and less players, which is what tends to happen on mod servers.
As for HL, Im all for it, its a much better intuitive interface with more info.

Well what is online play like now? I live in Canada so I won't have COD till July so I have no clue what online play is like. I've been on the Hyperlobby almost every day for 10 years now and I think the Hyperlobby would be perfect for COD unless it's pressent system is better but I don't see how anything could be much better than the Hyperlobby.

Isn't it allready possible to run mods right now? Both conf.ini and confs.ini have "VAC=1" as standard. If a host/server puts this to VAC=0 I think you can connect with all mods without Steam ever banning you, since it's VAC that checks your game integrity and with it disabled on the server VAC won't check or care what goes on on that specific server.

Well online play will save Cliffs Of Dover for sure in my opinion and it looks like this in game thing is a disaster. If the game progresses threw the war years as the IL-2 searies did North Africa Russia 1943 44 Western Front then again in my opinion nothing will stop it especially with the heavy duty flight sim war history nuts out there. I hope The Hyperlobby people find a way to get a spot for COD on the game list so all of the online wars and big servers like Spits VS 109s & War Clouds WF can get into action with this sim and patch after patch things are getting better and better.

I agree, I played IL2 from the beta, but gave up when I had to keep changing the modded version, it just all got to hard.

AFAIK there are no VAC definitions right now so you MOD till your blue in the face...HOWEVER when it becomes official and VAC is implemented you may find yourself banned :(
As for HL (if we get it) you will still be tethered to steam/VAC even if you are launching from there.
