View Full Version : No sound in Mulitplayer, sound works in SP fine.....

As the title says, i get no sound in multiplayer. The sound works fine in all single player missions, and i hear music in the menus. I tried going into the options while logged onto the server, and while in flight, and it's not switched off in the menus.
In one session in multiplayer, i got one random burst of engine sound for about 5 seconds, i tested guns in that window, heard guns, then the engine sounds went out halfway through the machine gun burst, and the machine gun sound was audible for about half a second after when the engine sound cut out, then nothing.
I'm not sure what my sound card is, Belarc just comes back with "High Definition Audio Device (2x)". My system is a gateway FX6800-03h, and no amount of google searching could return a definitive answer on what type of sound card this thing has, sorry.

Just tested MP sound works fine, well at least it works the same as before, is it onboard as maybe there is a conflict somewhere, sorry cant be of more help as it seems to be working for the rest of us.

.....Tried multiplayer again. Sound worked fine from the beginning, then about 10 minutes in, the sound cut out completely for about 30 seconds, then came back.
Very strange.

Definately still something wrong with the sound. Just playing the Black Death track sounds are missing on many of the planes. This is nothing new but it point to something wrong.

Same problem here.
I had no problem with the sounds in previous versions of the game (beta patches included). Now after few minutes flying in MP, all sounds are missing.
I'm on W7 64Bits and the sound card is a integrated one. (Mother board ASUS P6T Deluxe V2)

I have same issue :-( Only MP. The sound ok until couple of minutes, maybe half hour. Starts ripping with short interruptions then the sound. Finally totally silent.
I have no sound card, only onboard audio (Asus M3N78 motherboard).

I am having a sound issue now as well, It has only happened in MP and is intermittent. I had the problems on the REPKA server but not on the Syndicate server, but I don’t know if that has anything to do with it.
S! Stubing, it’s been a while.

I have was flying as well on the REPKA server when I encountered the problem. Maybe it's a problem with a script ?
I have done some tests in this server:
- Changing sound configurations: No effect
- Changing planes: With the spit I have been able to fly more time than with the 109, but I have also lost the sound: No effect
- Reinstaling Sound card's drivers: No effect.
- Enabling steam cloud: This has allowed me to fly more than 40 min. with an 109 without sound problems. I have to test this more tomorrow in order to check if the problem is solved doing this. I suppose that the conf.ini is somehow changed. (obsolte entries are causing problems??)

I just encountered the problem on the Syndicate server this afternoon - began with sound, cut out halfway.

....also, ive noticed today that once the sound goes out, the problem follows you out of multiplayer, thought the menus, and even into single player. But then randomly comes back on.

Same here, onboard sound.
only tested the syndicate server .
if I alt tab to windows, I can recover the sound in the options, but not ingame. I need to restart COD to have sound again... for a while

In SoV Server, flying a Spit Ia, after some minutes working, the sound starts to rattle until it dissapears completely.
It had never happened to me before last patch 1.4588
Just the Black Death track, on which I could here Me109, explsions, weapons and even collisison, but not Hurricane or Me110.
Audigy 2ZS sound card here.

"I'll repeat what I posted elsewhere, as all do not seem to have seen it:
I've found two switches in Windows: Sounds -> Playback -> [device] -> Properties -> Advanced -> Exclusive Mode
UNCHECK this.
I've tried many servers, sounds are all on.

I think the problem may be related with the spawn of AI flights...
I have been flying on the Repka server, and when the mission loads several AI flights at the same time, the sound starts to fail.

We at Syndicate have started coming to the same conclusion. It often happens when AI spawns on our server as well.

Does switching off bots voices completely helps (unchecking the checkbox) ? Game restart is needed for settings to take effect.
Did yo try:
- defraging game directory
- reinstalling and updating .net, directx, sound drivers (or motherboard drivers as well for onboard especially). .net had an update 1 in april or march I think.
- changing process priority (try lowering it too)
- killing conflicting processes with gamebooster
- reinstalling software package that came with soundcard, updating it to latest version.
- overclocking processor or vice versa setting it to default clocks
Audigy 2zs runs fine with SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0017 drivers (64bit compatible). All Creative software updated. Game defragged. Most of processes unloaded. All additional sound sources switched off in Win7 settings. Sound set at 16 bit, 48kHz. No exclusive mode allowed. Additional processing switched off.
No sound issues so far.

Just had my first audio cut out whilst playing off-line :( The sound stuttered for a while before disappearing for about a minute, coincidently when enemy fighters were coming into view. After roughly a minute the sound stuttered back in and continued to work for the rest of the mission. Strange.

Both myself and a friend had frequent sounds disappearance playing multiplayer yesterday (the first we played again since the last patch), trying various maps and missions, including some dogfight missions that have no additional scripting (but AI spawning). I'm using a Creative Fatal1ty usb headset, he was using onboard audio. Hard drive defragged by OO, .net updated, headset drivers too, no OC, no conflicting process (got them down to minimum really) and it's still happening - quite frustrating, we decided to shelve CoD and go back to RoF and UP 3 RC for a while until it's sorted out...

I never had the sound bug (not that I will complain about unfair treatment...) but I am wondering.
I am flying Window mode 3072x1024 (my desktop is 3840x1280).
Does anybody flying window mode experience the sound bug?

Check your power management settings. Go to advanced settings and check that you have NO powersaving options ON.
I use Gamebooster which has an option to set Gaming PowerPlan that disables any powersaving.
I have heard that someone experienced a screensaver pop up while CoD was running. It might be the same with powersaving options switching on. And guess it would be hard for a PC to handle this sim if hardware is underpowered.
ps. Make sure you run 550W+ PSUs at least or greater depending on your videocard power consumption.

Try setting game sound to "ambisonic uncoded". Someone reported this solved the issue for Realtek onboard sound.

I experienced a very strange thing. There is not a sound issue (couple of days), since the forest graphic settings is low (!). I did not give a thought to this, would not write here, but my mate wrote the same one punctually today. Is worth a test...

Turning off forest also helps according to posts at sukhoi.
upd. Everyone in this thread runs x64 Win7 or Vista. Make sure you install updated x64 drivers for your sound card from sound chip manufacturer. I had a hard time finding compatible sound drivers for my old Audigy 2zs (mentioned above).
And I run with multithreading off in BIOS btw. Try limiting No. of cores maybe to just 4.

Double-check that you have both CoD directories excluded from Antivirus real-time monitoring shields (in internet and file monitoring settings). There are 2 exclusion lists one for manual/scheduled scanning and 2nd one for real-time monitoring/scanning. Make sure you exclude CoD from the real-time one.
The 2 CoD folders to be excluded are located in 1) Steam folder, 2) My documents folder.
Another solution reported at sukhoi.ru: install a clean Win7-64 to be used only with CoD. Do not install anything on it except for joystick and headtrack utilities, even antivirus. Just do not visit webpages or download anything from this OS, use the old OS for this instead.
Please share your results. We can help the devs to locate the problem more precisely.

And btw in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\mg_sound\setup\sound_setup.ini
I have
[4]
text = Surround
dir = 4
channels = 6
flags = 2
to include my subwoofer. Thus I have 6 channels in game that corresponds to 6 channels I have in Windows sound setup. This could be a key as BigPickle pointed out here http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=23622
Please test and share results.

Another thing I did while struggling with some game issues is reinstalling .NET Framework 4 from the MS site and installing this update on top of it. Maybe this fixed the sound issue for me as a side effect.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=e85a2f1b-031c-419c-95b2-0610e90bafd7&displaylang=en
I do not know if it installs automatically when you (re)install .NET.

Using a DFI LP UT X-58 motherboard onboard sound
This is the sound setup in my conf.ini maybe it helps somebody. Is this an issue that both NV and ATI people experience?

My conf ini. Reduced Attenuation hoping it would make sound heard from longer distance on external views. Do not remember if it made any difference. Default setting is 7. Everything else is default iirc.
Steam cloud was off for a couple of months. So it is a very old version of conf.ini. I wonder if something is changed in default config since then. If you notice any differences please let me know.

I'm still getting the sound bug. I've tried with 3 different hardware solutions: my onboard sound, a creative usb headset and a sound blaster audigy with up to date drivers (tried 2 types, an official driver and an improved custom driver). My friend who has the problem too experienced it with 2 different sound cards (a sound blaster Xi-Fi Fatal1ty and another high quality one that I have forgotten).
In addition to that, I've followed all the tips listed here, spent a lot of time testing to no success.The only thing I haven't tried is a fresh OS install, but I haven't go much time and I'm only spending it tinkering unsuccessfully, so I have no other choice than giving up. I'll check the forums from time to time hoping something concrete comes up, but this bug just killed the game for me and my friends just as we were starting to enjoy it with some nice MP potential emerging...

Well, I've tried several different settings, but after tweaking my info box, I was able to get errors reported in the chat box. And as soon as the sound started crapping out I get this error;
1395162 ERROR [SOUND] Sample
$bob/speech/gb/Actor1/Feet.wav not found
It only happens when flying RED team. Which makes sense for me since its a gb (Great Britain) sound file not found. It never happens if I fly blue and stay blue, but once it goes out (by switching to red) it stays out until i restart game, sometimes I have to restart computer.
But I have heard different from others, that it happens on blue team to them...

Yes indeed the drivers I called "custom" were precisely these ones, which I knew from before IL2 COD since they fixed problems associated with Audigy cards with other games (but I had shelved the card and was using the headset as my main sound device anyway, I only took it out again to test the bug).
I might give a go at testing the problem again if I can figure out how to log errors in the chat box as you did Srinidhalaya. I am almost 100% positive that I experienced the problem on the blue side too, but I shall check that too again.

My in game audio menu only has volume adjustments showing and when I go to the conf file, I don't see how to make adjustment.
