The first person is testing a pre-version of our mod. It's Eucrysty. We have some adjustments before testing with more people.

Hello everyone,
I already sent my first impressions to raknefne .Game is rebuild and new ,is like a new version of King's Bounty . Since all is random you have the possibility to test a whole bunch of creatures , created only in hylfire and bonfire , also some new items.


I found another minor error in text : "happends "

And a bug with devils fish in water from map Fefne , you cannot click on them to join you even if it shows you that they will join you. It s a bug with their position i think .The idea of them having a blast in the sea and they are swiming is great :) i like it.

What i loved most are the sounds :) There is a catapult troop in the first island that when it chases you it talks like .... SMIGEL from Lord of the rings :)) all the enemies that are chasing you have some phrases with different voices . LOVE THE IDEA ! is like the best idea in this mod :)

Also in the cellars the rewards are not properly fixed in the available AREA.They are randomly positioned . As you can see in the screenshot there are in space :) so it is impossible to collect them and just waisted my money in upgrading this cellar because just 1 crystal and 60 gold was available to collect in the cellar . other 4 rewards were in the space .Also in first island i find this when something to collect is in the rocks near the water ...

The most annoying thing is that whenever you enter a cave or map or get out it will zoom in so you have to zoomout every time . If you could implement to remember your zoom settings would be awesome .

The volcano does damage to itself ... so he kills himself after 1-2 rains :) it s not supposed to work like that . He must be invulnerable to his own fire rain

Devilfish is a bug, it is something I added late, not tested, so thx. I found a similar fish bug in Fryseland last night.

About the sounds: Terroin has made all the voices and recorded himself! Then altered ofc, but the sound will be best if you can get close to the real deal before altering. He came here the day after and he was had a strange voice after recording like 48 voices for BOnfire... hehe.

Cellar: The coins etc in space is not to collected, it is for the scenary, like the ones having the cellar has stuffed things away like the boxes. It is random what you get by buying 3x5.000 gold for the access to the cellars. Sometimes a waste other times super. It is meant like a gambling, if too strong you will always build cellar... btw, I've noticed I always buy cellar in my games, can't help the gambling...:cool:

The first island something to collect: have to check.

Zoom: yes, noted, we are aware of that.

It will only shows what you can choose at this point. If you don't have enough Kill Proofs, you can't choose that. All the possibilities are shown in quest log and in the text above. Could it be that you didnt have 4 kill proofs and 1 might rune? Else it is a bug.

Damn, you are right. Havent checked minimap before, thx. And minimap shows around 1 cm to the right, I can see (a star in the sea).

The collectibles that i said that are positioned bad ... i tried every possible combination of collecting . They are just bad positioned and cannot collect them

I wonder if it is too easy to cruise from one map to another (you only need to kill 8 enemies before buying another map for 10k gold. It was 5 before, we changed it to 8...

About the fire elemental:

It says 80% fire res in the code, similar to the black dragon. Could be more... strangely it says "fire_imminutitet", but isn't. BTW creature adjustment can be made and used instantly in current game, no new game is necessary.
I'llmake it 95% (testing 100% not sure if it is possible, seems all have max 95% of something in res.).

A question to everyone:

We are debating this, often impossible players re-load a lot. We can add a small penalty for reloading on Hard / IMpossible for instance. It could be 1 Crystal for re-loading. Or 3% gold - this way the Guild for stashing gold is more important.

This is not like the tax we first had in Hylfire and removed. The downsides is ofc if you experience a lot of crashes due to a slow computer or an older graphic card (I've noticed my games crash very rarely now after getting a new computer).

Plz comment on the idea or if you have a better idea.

In heroes might and magic total scores define mastery to play. There were not other penalties except days of game. Such need to be promoted for kings bounty. You could modife the formula of final scores if wish. For example include free crystals or runes or gold.

For me personally is the worst idea ever ... since i play only impossible . Other difficulty is just boring and not worth even playing the game. It s like 5 reloads in 5 min on impossible . A penalty = no game at all .

Good idea to effect Final Score. Then you can still play without "annoyance", as eucrysty says, but still have an effect!
I generally only reload if I get surprised or find an overwhelming army on Impossible...
Since this is not a game with a final battle like other KB games, we will make this obtion at the start of the game:

1. PLAY ENDLESS (play as long as you wish, no ending, like Heroes 3 map generator).

2. PLAY TO LEVEL 10, 20 OR 30 - THEN THE GAME ENDS AND YOU GET A HIGH SCORE. YOU CAN RELOAD JUST BEFORE ENDING AND TALK TO "ACRIMALDO" IN THE HERO MENU AND CHANGE TO ENDLESS PLAY IF YOU WISH TO CONTINUE PLAYING AFTER THE SCORE.

Plz comment on these victory conditions.

To Eucrysty's test version: We will remove the "STAR COLLECTING" and instead add these rewards to quests obtained from the guild.

Also to Eucrysty: In some games I've noticed I got too many items early from digged up chests... thinking about reducing the chance of finding level 3-5 items in chests...

I ll say no . Since there are no quests to find additional items as rewards and few shops to buy from .The wood pile you obtain really but really hard in game so you cannot build many buildings . i'll say not a good idea to reduce that chance. For the moment i have only 1 item level 5 and all others are lvl 1 90% and lvl 2 10% .

Ok, let me know if you change opinion. I'll leave it as it is now. I just had one game, at level 4 I found the elven crone that gives 1000 leadership, I had 3-400 leadership before and also the elf as alliance... I stopped the game... too easy... kind of spoiled it. Many buildings have items for sale or for free. But ofc u need woodpiles. IN some games I've noticed I dont find many. Seems the randomness ingame sometimes gives more runes from chests, other games more Woodpiles etc. No I always build the Sawmill even though it only has a little chance for Woodpiles when fighting outside the starting island.

:) i had only 1 woodpile benefit from the sawmil ... it seems i like is better to build other building than sawmill...at least in curent state of game . i had more than 90 fights after sawmill builded and only 1 wood pile.... that s not cool :)

If you could make zoomout more :) i mean like you could zoom out more so you can see more terrain from point of view ...like kb the legend .Also to see the rewards you would gain for future levels , so you can know what skills you may invest and what runes you can consume . i ll post 2 screenshots so you can see zoom thing and rewards for next levels , it s from my legend game

When you bring him 350 gold, an animal appears behind him (level 1-2), when u pick up the animal u get the 25 leadership. After that u can pay for higher level units, the units are often not so interesting but now and then there are items and scrolls for free... ARE YOU SAYING A MORE PRECISE TEXT WOULD BE GOOD?

Zoomout: good idea. I'll check with Terroin.

Future rewards: Would take a lot of modding... not so keen on that.

The text is very clear but quest it s bugged ...
i m saying that there is no animal near him , behind him or any elsewhere ... there are only 2 rabbits and cannot pick them up... so i cannot complete quest

Yes, we are on to that. We changed it from 500 to 1k, but not all text got changed and it is still only giving 500. Seems you see all the bugs! That's good, thx.

About Dunlor: noted, it's just we have played 30+ times in all with no problems. But we check the code. It is not the rabbits, that is just scenary. When you look in quest log, does it still say 25 leadership reward? That should disappear when u pick up the animals (10 pieces of lvl 1-2 neutrals).

Stars on minimap for logs: They are not shown on my computer. I can see on your pic with the minimap that they are there. Strange. Could it be something to adjust in the option? Anyway, Terroin mentioned he had an idea to turn the stars off.

- Yes, 1-2 caves and a passage in Skrumpeland can have a blocked passage - I forgot. Is it annoying? We actually debated that when making it...

- another thing: did you check your quest log about Dunlor, what it says? Does it still say u get 25 leadership?

OK, I get it. Strange. It must be something with file missing or so. I check the zip file, because in our many tests we haven't had that problem...

Also: you will at some point be given "STARS" even though you play ENDLESS GAMEPLAY. That will be removed.

Neutrals at sea: I found a bug similar to your Devilfish that would join but couldnt. I'm changing it all over, doesnt seem to work at sea. In case you find that again...

Zoom when exiting a portal: It is actually very easy to change in the editor! We do that with all maps now.

I think I'll remove the logs in Hvysel Cave, Dvorin Cave and Skrumpeland that can block areas. It will probably be seen as a mistake, like a punishment instead of fun !???

I have removed the spell, Last Hero, partly because of crashes in the mod. Also a strange spell... In KB Legend it sounded overpowered, saying that it will always keep 1 in the army nomatter how much damage it received.

I've just started working on the 9th map in the mod (including starting map, redone Tungsinn). It's a map where u move from island to island with teleporters with random teleporting.

To Eucrysty: I have added an extra small map to Fefne, a sea portal. It leads to a group of 3-4 small islands, lizardmen like.

Not possible. Map changes need a restart of the game. Only spells, items, some arena changes will work immediately.

We haven't found any errors in the Dunlor code. So we wait and c with that quest.

Have you tried asking Builder Broth for building items? (he's next to Acrimaldo in the hero menu). OFC you can cheat with reloads, but we made this so in case game was too hard early you could build 3 items for 1-2-3 runes to gamble for getting an item.

We intend to add quests through the Guild. BUT NOT many, it is a random generator inspired by the Heroes of Might and Magic 3 map generator system.

what level are you now?

We will wrap it up then, and look for more testers.

I m level 11 . My ideea is if you could make some DUNGEONS (before entering you must meet level requirements )where you have to fight some bosses .at level 10 ,20 ,30 ,40 etc like big spider or big octopus ... i don t know if it s complicated to create but i think would be a great idea .

Overall game is great , whole new game , and sound idea was the best.i even run from monsters just to hear them :)) then after some chases i will attack them :D also some sounds in battle like i suggested in other thread would be awesome

Amount of sounds in the first version might be limited, depends on time...

I think we will focuse on quests for the first version.

We fixed the bug with "stars" on minimap from the random logs (road blocks) - as you mentioned. And a lot of other stuff yesterday.

Up to now it has been Terroin modding quests etc and I have been the mapmaker. Yesterday I learnt more about making quests, so I start putting a few quests in the existing maps. One quests I made was to collect 5 Precision Scrolls - reward is 6 runes. I always sell those scrolls, fun this way. they seem to pop up by them selves, don't have to put scrolls to find, I think.

Any small quest ideas, Eucrysty or others?

the bug with Trapper medals is back. Since i have did it and 1 trap is placed on battlefield 60% of the time game crashes when attacking an enemy
now i wish i have nt used traps at all...but on impossible trap is the best spell ever besides slow , fear and shield.

Damn it. I made traps placed in the arena just 1 month ago, since I thought we had repaired the Rogue summoning like DRAGON RIDER skill and Companion placement in arena-bug.... It could still be another thing that crashes (we experienced that with the rogue heroes before changing the trapper medal)... but to test it, I can mail you a new medal file. Good news is, that it should work immediately. Txt will still say "1 trap placed in the arena ... etc" but I can make it so it makes only extra damage as it was in the Hylfire mod. I write where to put the file.

Questions:
1. how are the RAGE skills, round attack etc., balanced / too weak / strong ? We lowered it, seemed too strong in our early tests.

2. how much of the world have you discovered as level 12? How many maps do you have access to? Is it too easy to get a new map? Can you just cruise from map to map and pick up goodies?

3. About the crash you experience: is it nomatter which map you are on or only at a certain map? (a certain arena)

i have 5 maps and on 4 of them all is collected and all enemies defeated.
the crashes are all over the maps.as a workaround i just need to find a NON-crasher enemy ...beat him up and then try on the crasher-ones, usually it changes the spawn trap and is not in the same place on the battlefield with on a non-good place to give crash.
-the map system is ok
-the building where u fire companion and gives XP is overpowered anyway
-i visited 2 times and got 2 new levels... i just quit visiting because is not fair for the game . i just give 2 kill proofs and get a new level. by the way i have 80 kill proof....so i could make tons of levels without beat any enemy.... :)
- my idea is to get rid of exp reward ...but just to add all of the companions so you can choose whatever u want not from only 3 .... i swithched 3 types and i enjoyed playing with each one because each one gives a new experience. for the moment i have the archer trickster...i like it for the Double damage spell

ARENA Building: yes, sounds overpow. Isn't it 5 kill proofs and not 2 for new companion to choose? It should only be an instant 5% exp gained, but perhaps there're a bug... We will change that, eliminate the exp gained as you suggest. It is a very good idea with all 9 companions to choose between. We are modding today and will implement and test it here. Terroin has modded a lot lately - focused on repairing bugs and adjustments. I'm nearly finished with a new map. That new map, Hopland, along with a new small island map in Fefne Island will be in the final version. I have started adding a quest to maps. We still need to add quests to the guild. But that is about all we need for the finale tests, so we are close!

About crash w. companion / trapper: another way to reset the randomness is to take off equipment and put them on again.

Let me hear when you try the medals.txt I sent you. Open (not unpack) ses.rar in the session / ice'nfire directory and move the new file there as I explained in the mail.

Arena building: Now it costs 5 kill proofs to choose between all 9 companions - still the first time you pay 3 kill proofs and can choose between 3 random ones. So with this building you can have fun trying different combos with the companionens, some summon, some shoots, cast web etc.

Now it's ok ,no more traps placed in battlefield and no more crashes since i replaced the medals.txt

Ok I change it back to NOOOO traps on arena. This way it is also easier for me making some fun and different arenas. We playtested some of the new arenas yesterday, like the last arena I showed here in the 1C thread with a picture. It gave such a different feeling to the game, worked really good!

Trapper Medal: at lvl 5 it will give 550% extra damage as I wrote in mail. Seems ok ??

Quests: We are adding quests to the guild now, seems to be the last thing we need before the finale test (along with the new map, Hopland, which has a lot of cool new type of arenas). You can only have 1 quest at the time from the guild, when that is done you can have a new one. Most depends on something to get, one you can't get before level 10, another where you have to bring 10 kill proofs you can only get if you have less than 3 kill proofs etc.

to Eucrysty: We have added more creatures to the buildings you can build in your version - compared to a few months ago. I wonder if there are too many... and the creatures to buy in the starting castle is less important. It's about balance. It is random, for instance a dwelling with level 5 can have 2-10 trolls etc, a dwelling with level 1's will have double in leadership compared to level 5's. What's your thoughts?

i was just about to suggest to add more creatures in buildings.maybe a guaranteed 2 stacks of something....i have more than 4 buildings where only 1 stack of some lvl 4 creatures are there....just wasted a lot of wood piles .also i have lack of creatures because of this . add more types of creatures in building and at least 2-3 stacks per building...is not like woodpiles are growing in trees :) you have to beat 10 enemies to get just 1 ....

for games where I dont have many woodpiles I build high baracks in the starting town, to attract level 4-5 in my alliance. Some games gives more than others regarding woodpiles.
getting creatures are like gambling... and sometimes you have to use level 2-3's also... for instance if you get a building with free units, I had one with 86 free pirats lvl2. Good cannon fooder... so far I won't add more creature stacks.

- we calculated a random number of each creature to be able to fit at least until level 20. Can't remember the amount of stacks in buildings, 0-2 stacks I guess (Some have just scrolls/potions/items and no creatures).

În The original game you had a lot of variety of creative to choose because in every map was at least ore castle With 3-5 stacks and other inns With armies. Maybe you can add some quests în guild to beat some type of creatures and as a reward to let you hire them after battle

Good idea with the quest thing. I'll talk it over with Terroin. Just keep in mind it is random, other time you could get 20 necromancers instead of 2 in the same kind of building. And building is random. Often there are 1 sometimes 2 buildings already build in a new map.

Let me hear how you progress, we have only played until level 11 ourselves - because when we keep modding we wanna play with the new changes... we mod/mapmake seperately and meet up once a week and mod a little, then play afterwards.

A good idea, could be to have an Inn at every map - and make that Inn ruled by Toby, the Inn maker from starting map. Every Inn should give random creatures, but you have to buy using kill proofs..

What do you think of this Idea?

I dont think we should grant other than lvl. 1-3 units..

but perhaps turn back to the original home castle idea with lvl. 4 and 5 also being summoned when choosing alliance? then remove the hi baracks option.

any building with troops is welcome :) for the moment i don t have any troops to choose...i m lvl 12 and i have same creatures since level 4....is kinda booring
in original game you had so much buildings with creatures....in every town you had at least 1 castle , in other island were even 3 castles... + inns and random building and shops . i want to test new creatures ....the morf ones like black unicorns and other morphed from 2 races in 1 troop

Hiring: Could also add more castles to maps, Hopland, Hrasken and Fryseland which is the latest maps have a castle but yet with limited amount of troops. Mainly put in landscape so you could store units. I could add a castle on most maps so you can store units and buy random level 1-4 units. I think level 5 should be more rare.

About Terroins "inn idea": Should be more expensive regarding kill proofs compared to the starting castle, IMO. I understand you have 80 kill proofs on you, Eucrysty. Kill proofs are more important in the beginning of the game at the moment.

Max level: I wonder what level it is possible to achieve at the moment with the 8 maps you have in your version, Eucrysty? Probably level 20 ????

there is a bug in Hrasken in Hrask cellar
in there is a snake that can reset you hero and you can choose again from infilrator , dragon rider etc ... when you choose all you spells are reset and all stats like defense attack intelect are 0 , the skill in skill tree is overlaped with the old one and you still have the old one...i choose a summoner dead and in battle still ice dragons appeared from my dragon rider skill . after i tried to talk again with the snake but appears a blank page where you can t do anythong...not even escape...you have to close game from task manager

It must be a random hero you have met down there. It is a bug where the randomness uses the hero from the very beginning of the game, that's why you get the option again about hero types. You must have chosen Soul Wanderer from the pic. The randomness should avoid the heroes used in quests. A bug we must fix. When he is eliminated from the random pool you won't get the hero choice again.

I'll hand it over to Terroin. It's his job to fix...

How strong was the hero btw compared to your level? The heroes should grow too along with the standalone armies.

He will be removed. Seems he is one who likes to tease the modders... we have seen him several places. Terroin is coming over today, we will mod.

The new map Hopland will be implementet in the mod. I have made a quest in Hopland where you get 6000 gold for useless items like Training Sword, Antique Shoes etc. Another place you can only enter from level 10. Its a cave entrance: 3 heroes to fight for exp, goodies and dwellings with troops to hire. A very beautiful landscape IMO.

I have also added a quest on Fynnen islands (part of Fefne Islands) where you get 6 random runes if you bring 5 scrolls of Precision (a useless scroll that u now can get a reward collecting. But no guarantee to find all, but normally you do during a game).

Terroin is adding quests to the guild now. In your version all the quests are on the starting map, Bonbongland. There will not be as many quests as in the original game, it is sort of a "random generator" or close to.

In another game you could have more woodpiles. Normally you'll have more to build with - and also getting more creatures this way. We still add more creatures to buy, but probably not the Inn as Terroin talked about - due to time.

I'm working on making more quests (instead of new maps, we have 9 now). If you have played the Hylfire mod you know it is random what skills you get after leveling up, and that it is completely random. In Bonfire you can buy 1 out of 6 early game, so at least you can have some you want if you are unlucky in the randomness... also now I'm working on quest for later, where you can choose 1 out of 9 skills (you need to have 10 intellect to be able to choose 1 out 3 magic schools, or 10 Defense to choose between oratory/ressurection/sense weakness, 10 att for anger/runic power/3rd skill).
Or 15 int/att/def ??

Anyway, quests are "more simple" meaning it is a random mod, so you don't have a story like in WoTn where you talk to the father, ERic, etc.

It will help the randomness, still it is a mod with huge randomness. It will help those who are not so keen on too much randomness, I know some from Hylfire "complained" about that. I know sometimes it can be strange playing a mod if too much is changed from vanilla, I know - because I feel that about another mod, REd Sands. I guess the challenge is to make it interesting, but still keep it somehow true to vanilla, since that was the game you liked... if you get my meaning.

From the review of Hylfire recently I have decided to weaken a few skills since it is the same system in Bonfire. Now skills are changed to:

DIVERSION: 5-10-20-30-40% (ended at 60%)
CONCENTRATION: 1-2-3-4-6 mana (ended at 9)
DESTRUCTION: 10-20-30-40-50 and 5% crit
CREATION: 10-20-30-30-45 and +1 duration of spells from lvl4 (ended at 60, was 3)
ANGER: 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 1 rage, 70% and 1 rage (ended with +3 rage and 60% both in Hylfire and Vanilla)
ACTION RAGE: -0, -1, -2, -3, -4 turns (ended at -5)
HIGHER MAGIC: 6-10-15 mana requirements for 2nd cast, 34 Magic Runes to Max it (was 30 runes, 10-15-20 mana),
GUARDIAN (BETTER NOW): 3-6-10-15-20 defense when pressing def.button

I have already added extra leadership requirement for lvl 4-5 (one of my latest posts in the other Bonfire threat), but I think I will add even 100 more to most of the lvl5's

I can understand from Eucrysty who is currently testing an older version, the game will end at hero level 20-22, which is a little early. On the other hand it is a "random generator" or at least enforces to try new heroes with other companions... and more maps can be added over time with no problem. Could even be some maps other players make??? Is there anybody out there interested in mapmaking and have some experience? We have 9 maps now and will probably end at level 22. If so, let me know.

PLAYTESTERS WANTED FOR BONFIRE

We will have the final version ready for you in about a week. You can read about the game in this or the other Bonfire threat. Eucrysty have already tested most of the game.
Keep in mind it is a mod with a lot of randomness, as close to a random generator as possible, so there won't be boss-fights, and it is a much shorter game at the moment. Game will end around level 25 (although you can choose to play ENDLESS, you can also just play until lvl 10, 15 or 20 - you will have that option in the start of the game). It's easy later on to add more maps to make it a longer game. Furthermore, there are not like story-line-quests, there're quests, but not the amount like in a normal game. Less text and more fighting.

A new hero mage has been made, The Apprentice: He can summon books like the Rogue heroes. He might be a little overpowered... not sure - we have both played him just until lvl 7 or so.
Creature level 4-5 are changed from the Hylfire mod, plz check them out and let me know in general for imbalances. Are some (any lvl 1-5) too weak/overpow.

The following we would like you to check out:
- When exiting a portal, is the zoom right? (it has to be zoomed out, look naturally)
- In the starting town you talk to a quest giver called Arturak. In some testgames he reappeared other places but with no hero picture. HE SHOULD NOT RE-APPEAR, let us know if he does. Don't fight him or do anything with him if he comes.
(This is an old bug that 'should' have been fixed now)
- Balance of level 4 and 5.
- Balance of Rage Skills in fight. Too strong?
- Trooptalk: something sticks out? ARe you always choosing the same? No. 1 would be if you need to have the level 1-3 creature with you in a fight to get the trooptalk and not having it in the Reserve, but we haven't found a way to do that yet.

Known bugs that has NOT been fixed:
- Goblin Shaman (level 3 orc race): Enemy sometimes crashes when using talents (probably a Vanilla bug, not sure).
- a few creatures with new talents does not give experience, like the Cave Spiders "Mass Web". We don't have the time for adjusting this.
- The Mapmaker on the last map: his dialog is a little strange. We are aware of it.
- The Sawmill level 2 and 3 in the starting castle doesn't work. Max build level 1.

At he moment you can play until level 22 or so unless you have exp. items. Bonfire is made so it is easy to add new maps. We already have plans for Bonfire 2, more maps and some very unique features if we succeed the modding. Heavy modding...

The link for downloading the Bonfire testversion has been sent via 1c mail to Xev, Erkilmarl, Aristobal and by normal email to Eucrysty.

You need to change the name of the existing WoTn Folder, for instance "WoTn Original". Then unpack the Bonfire zip file (2.7 GB) at the same place, probably at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\

It will have the same folder name as the original game: King's Bounty - Warriors of the North

Can't help playing myself too... started a Blacksmith (warrior type). I found out something went wrong went reducing the mod size when packing: in the starting castle you build everything is for free - units, items, scrolls. That's a mistake. But just keep playing, that's a just a little thing. You can actually sell scrolls for Gold and then buy them back for 0 Gold and earn tons of money... plz don't, we will fix it!

on impossible, but it is very hard, some nice units join me but I dismiss them because hasn't enought leadership and now can't win without losses. I could not build castle so I go to Dumlor and get crash.

He is a drunkard sitting somewhere... it is random where he is from game to game. Somewhere on Bonbong Land... you have to look... often in the starting town, but he can also be on the smaller islands...

About Dunlar and the crash: We have to check all animals, it must be refering to a creature that is not finished or something like that. But it is noted in my "to do list".

Dumlor: This is how it is supposed to work, you pay ahead for the animals you then can pick up for free. On top of that free scrolls and a chance of free items.

Game over: Yes, a bug if you play game ending at lvl10-15 or 20. It will be fixed. To all testers: in this version ONLY play "endless game!!!".

Item w. 100 leadership: It is random what u find, not bigger chance than in WoTn. Randomness is taken between for instance level 1-2 items or level 1-3 items etc. Compared to WoTn, you startoff with less leadership.

Mezasoic Egg: I will have to check what it was in WoTn. We have also raised the health of the egg shelf, so perhaps lower it, yes. I really appreciate when you find something that is "out of balance", it helps balancing.

Mezasoic Egg (was Permafrost in Wotn): leadership=750,1500,2250 (level 1-3)
- the leadership is doubled in Bonfire/Hylfire. Egg shelf health is 3-4 times stronger now (100 Health as level 1 spell, 450 Health as level 3 spell).

It was not a useful spell in WoTn, because you can't controle them and the shelf broke very easily. That's why we changed the spell. But it is probably too overpow now... I suggest 850, 1900, 3000 leadership, then. You will probably only use it as the Beastmaster.

I will mail you an update if you like, an update of the spell, so you can continue playing with new stats, no problemo.

What do you think, all the testers?

If so, it is a WoTn bug, we haven't touched that.

The hero you met in Dvorin Cave is actually a serious bug. We have seen Arturok in 2nd places than the starting town, and thought the bug was only around him. It has to do with the random heroes we put at different places, it must be. We have to find a way to fix that! ... it takes more heroes that the ones we have defined ourselves - and the talk they might have been connected to in a game.

About the hero you met in Dvorin Cave: I'll talk it over with Terrion when we meet, to see if we can mod something, else we can only do 2 (boring) things:

a. Delete all random heroes, so you only fight creatures.
b. Only place specific heroes, on a certain island it will always be the same hero you meet.

In Bonfire it is random which hero is placed at a certain place, a random of the heroes we have made, but for some strange reason, it sometimes takes some other heroes, and it can be some with a shop or talk, like the one you met, Aristobal. Eucrysty and I have both met Arturok a 2nd place. Very strange.

If any testers meet similar heroes, that seem out of place, it is this bug. Our homemade heroes just have certain spells which are written in the hero details you can read in the fight, and a relative att/def etc. (the random ones are level 5 I think).

NPC who sells map: You need to visit the Mushroom-like hut in the Cave next to Vlandin. ONLY after that he appears at a random location on either the mainland of Bonbong Land or one of the small islands.

Skillix: If you don't have the required payment, you can't buy skills. For instance Artifactor skills requires 3k Gold and some Crystals. It will only show the skills you can afford at the moment when you talk to him. Your quest log shows all the possibilities. I couldn't read the skillix picture btw.

NPC hero, Bandril mapmaker: It is random from game to game where he is, 8 possible locations on Bonbong Land:

1. Very small island with water mill in a long "in sea".
2. just outside the gate of the starting town
3. turn left when exiting town and follow road to the end.
4-8. Turn right when exiting town: 5 locations
a. around center of mainland
b. north in mainland
c. north-eastern part of mainland
d. a little west of 'c'
e. top NW corner of mainland of Bonbong Land

When you get to a new map, it is also random which place he is at.

I'm not sure if you met them at all in the WoTn game, in the code it said they were "off", but we just put it "on", not changing anything, other than making the worms be lvl1 instead of lvl2.

There was nothing about the stars, only about winning the game.

When I sail past the little island with a Cyclops and and then sail towards left, the game freezes (exe stops working). (It happeded twice but I could not reproduce it for the third time.) The same thing happens if I open the shop window of the animal trainer when it is empty and click on it.

I am not going to look for possible misspellings, but one made me stop and wonder for a while: In the beginning Acrimaldo says: I could not bare to see my friend hurt, while he should say "I could not bear".

It is a tough game in the beginning and it's very intriguing too, a player certainly wants to push on and find out about the gameplay, which is much different from the regular WoTN.

No problem. You get ICE WALL at level 3. Round attack at level 4. From level 4 it is easier.
The farmer's house is just for the scenarie. No quests etc.
In another game you could get another map... that's part of the randomization.

About the hero you met in a cave on Bonbong Land: You said it was the Dvorin Cave, but at the portal there're a randomization between 3 caves:
- Dvorin Cave
- Vlidne Cave
- Hvysel Cave
You will get acess to just one. And as far as I remember the only one where a hero can appear is Vlidne Cave. Could it be that cave you went in? It has 3 paths just after exiting the portal to Vlidne Cave. I'm asking, because if not, then it is a bug we haven't seen before.

Skillix:
I will check Skillix's skills, using "DEV tools" for cheating/testing to see if I can buy all the skills. Eucrysty also said there were 1 skill he couldn't buy. I don't know where the saved KB games are stored yet, but when I find out I will check your saved game.

To Aristobal about Skillix: I checked your saved file. And you're right, you're supposed to be able to choose between RAGE CONTROL, WISDOM, MEDITATION, ARTIFACTOR. The other 2 you can't, because you don't have a Might Rune.
I'll check the code again. Very strange, because it used to work... We made this skill sellar in case you were not so lucky in the skill choice when leveling up early game. Furthermore you can buy 1 of 4 Magic Schools at Vlandin if you haven't learnt one when you talk to him - when you have learnt 1 magic school you can also buy a few creatures from him (priest / inkvisitor / demonologists / druids OR archmages ). But he won't sell a magic school if you already have learnt one...

It is a good way to show saved files like the one you did.

One Axe I got from one of three brothers who sold ships and one I found somewhere. I complete first quest, and after you say I checked and yes I can get second quest to find 50 eggs.

You have been lucky. It is a random level 1 item you get from the 3 brothers in the starting town. I'll be looking at some of the bugs today. The testing you all are doing are very helpful, Terroin and I tend to do the same over and over, for instance I never sailed to the edge in the left side of the starting map, so we never found the crash bug there, as Erkihlmahl described.

I've not finished Bonfire atm but will tell what I found so far:

Class: Apprentice
- clicking at highscores (fresh installation of KB/Bonfire) -> CRASH
- no crash if any old highscore exists

1st try
Game Type: End game when level 20
- talked to every NPC, collected all chests, got some experience. After winning 1st combat -> Congratulation! You have won the game! End Screen!
- Wow! That was the fastest KB Run I ever had ;)

2st try
Game Type: Endless
Difficulty: Impossible
Companion: Ancient Oak
- Only 1 spell (Lightning Ball). But it works! Lightning Ball together with Ice Wall from rage skills is a good working combo, not overpowered, not too weak, I couldn't believe it. More than this single spell would be too much.
- I overlooked this hint with sawmill and had great problems to get more wood piles. Without sawmill no chance to finish Bonfire.
- The key to play with traps is to build up Trapper award. But the requirements for Trapper are too high, Bonfire has lesser enemies than vanilla.
- We have to live with very low leadership but it's okay. The start is very very hard but this low-leadership-system works!
- The only rage skill in the beginning phase is Ice Wall, it's good enough after learning how to use it well. Later I got Round attack. With having this 2 rage skills the game balance is excellent.
- Main castle must be build up very fast (hint would help) to get sawmill.
- Bonfire is full of kiting situations with well designed room to avoid enemy contact. Very good!
- Companion Ancient Oak is very weak. Only slow spell for close attack. To compensate this he should have more HP.
- Got several crashes only with this try (Lake Fairie, Dryad, Unicorn, Faun). Savegames are here:

Game Type: Endless
Difficulty: Impossible
Companion: Trick Shooter
- extremely hard start;) Couldn't find a single doable enemy. There was a big enemy in front of the companion obelisk who could not be enraged to move. So I had to kill this guy with overnumbered units (3 guardsmen) which killed my plan to play all with no loss;) After getting Trick Shooter all further gameplay was doable with many very strategic combats.
- not a single crash with this try (Demon, Demoness, Vampire).
- I had 140 leadership and had to play with only 1 Vampire, then I got Knight Boots from shop (+300 leadership!). These random surprises are welcome;)
- Coffins on battlefield summon too big stack of skeletons (57 skeletons = 2850 leadership when all other units are below 600). 1st one who destroys coffin wins the battle.
- Snow Falcon = overpowered unit #1 with it's skill Cold Stream every 2 Turns. Changing to single use would give better balance. Ini+speed are ok. I tested a Snow Falcon together with undead and demons in my party. Falcon gets -5 morale but still full overpowered.
- Evil Eye = overpowered unit #2 with 3 great skills: Lightning Spell (3 turns), Geysir (4 turns), Summon Spellbooks (2 charges). But that's not all: ranged attack with lightning shock, Vampirism with resurrect. Ini+speed are ok. My advice: kill 2 of it's skills and Evil Eye is strong but balanced.
- Winged Shadow is overpowered too. Very high speed, very high ini. One of them should be reduced to 3-4 and Winged Shadow is strong enough.
- I have the feeling that Demons get too much experience from Summon Spell. They are levelling fast.
- Ruin Castle at Hopland with 200+ rats very easy. Ice Wall in front of Rats and they are simple killed by ranged units. I cannot see any advantage of rats atm.
- u-boat is nice. Thx!
- Skillix doesn't work, you told it.
- Companion Trick Shooter is very powerful at close range, maybe he must be reduced.

Conclusion
At least in my 3rd try I got no crashes. No problems with quests, no problems with NPCs. But I focused on gameplay/balance/units. And this was great, I learned new tactics and had a lot of fun when testing. Bonfire was hard but I could go to lvl8, discovered 7 of 9 isles. Except 1st combat with overnumbered trick all was impossible/no loss/no skills (except concentration 1). But I used a Snow Falcon and an Evil Eye. In Bonfire combats are much more strategic and flexible than in vanilla game. Random is exciting. Each new game results in new strategies. The replayability is very high!

Thx for the long post, Xev. I really appreciate your inpute on balancing! I have something to be discussed:


Ancient Oak: From level 7 it can summon ents. It has not been adjusted from Hylfire... nor has any companions. It can shoot too. IMO I don't like it can't move, sometimes it is in the way, for my other troops... Good idea with more health.

No loss games: I don't play that style, but normally I check the guards in front of the obelisk - if they are too strong, I get the Arena from Arturok, so I can buy my companion instead.

Sawmill: Terroin only buy it like 50% of the time... depending of the game, sometimes it is easier to find wood piles. But a hint is good idea anyway. Also when fighting in Bonbong Land you always get 1 wood pile per fight, but much less when away from "home"... also choosing the Assasins Guild from Arturok that summons free troops level 1-5 for kill proofs helps at least on getting new creatures instead of building buildings for troops, but is ofc random fighters that doesnt change during the game - therefore a gambling...

Discovery of new maps: You have found 7 out of 9 as level 8, wonder if the requirements for buying a new map should be raised? To killing 10-11 armies instead of 8. It is early discoverying the whole world. What do you think, testers? We have also discused raising the price for each map, 0k, 10k, 20k, 30k etc.

Toughness in the early game: We intended to make it survival style for early game, at least players could play on an easier difficulty. I have reduced the chances for level 4-5 creatures on Bonbong Land, so you must have been very unlucky, Xev !

Exp creatures, demons: Perhaps it is because of the talents, any creature with talents that doesn't end turn, like RUN, and combined with Endless Retal etc., for instance Berserker levels up fast too. We don't intend to do much here, yet... because we are working on a new exp system for Bonfire 2... if we make it work it is a revolution!! Yes, we have already plans for Bonfire 2... but want to release this version after testing, since it is very playable as it is. Also adding too much increases the riskof bugs because of limited testing.

If you have luck with items from chests or free items at store then gold is no problem.

Great to hear about Bonfire2 project!!!

BTW. Is it possible to make highscore lists by class? Would help to raise motivation when playing same class again.

This is only scenario. You will find that on Fryseland too and some other maps, but mostly these two. In some places there is a 5-10% chance, they will attack you or join you, especially on Fryseland. So if you get too used to the map... you sometimes get a little surprise...

+20 Def when defending: normal or normal, not in Vanilla, we changed that in Hylfire/Bonfire. Too strong? Perhaps... are you saying it can't move to the other side or 6 hexes?? In Vanilla it says 2 speed and 2 ini, we reduced it to half that.
Plz comment on balance of it. Also if something else in that race sticks out. They have not been used a lot in WoTn, only Red Sand. We haven't tested that race a lot. It's the same for the Bronter in the lizard race (20 def. when defending)


No exp: When loading the saved game you linked, I went in the fight just next to, in that my creatures got exp, or did you mean the fight before that? I have no clue why if so. Or did you mean exp after battle?

Takes a lot modding, I think (Terroin is the main modder). We'll rather use time on some other modding.

Skillix in Bonbong Land: Is repaired. It was Terroin who added a code, that should work according to editor, but the editor is sometimes like an old lady... I have checked all the skills he teaches, they now all work.

The Hopland map: At level 10 you can enter the cave, Hoplands Hideout. There're 3 heroes down there. Let me know about the challenge. Are they too strong? -that's my concern. They all guard different goodies, and all have a building with troops to hire, 1 is a random building but build, the 2 others have castles.

Question about Arturok's 3 choices:

1. Temple: When maxed you have 5 extra mana, you can trade your kill proofs for extra mana limit or magic runes. Get a free level 1-2-3-4-5 scroll of same kind each time you level the Temple up (level 5 is max level). "Restock" produces 1 extra scroll of same kind (the first scroll you get when building the Temple is a gift, not the one you get if you restock).

2. Arena: First time you can choose between 3 companions for 3 kill proofs. After that it costs 5 kill proofs, but you can choose between all 9 companions! This way you can try out different combos.

3. Assasins G.: 5 Rage here and now when build. You can choose to summon level 1-5 units to the building (it can be level 4, then level 2, not necessary from 1 to 5). You pay X kill proofs for level X units, and they are for free. So cheap way of getting units. Downside is it is random between fighters, never priests for instance but it can be paladins, assasins, skeletons etc. The building info tells which units that can be summoned. It is the same kind of creature you get when you restock with kill proofs, for instance if you get paladins as the level 4 unit, you get that in the rest of the game.



Most often I choose the Arena, sometimes the Temple, never the Assasins Guild. IMO Assasins guild need a boost. The thought was to get quests for hunting down certain kind of troops, like 20 ghosts etc. But we will probably not make that in this version though.

What are your thoughts on the choice between these 3 buildings? I need different eyes on this, I have worked too much on the game.

Number of enemies is growing 3 times when using Scouting Skill
I observed it several times that inspection of same enemy gave different results but I thought I was wrong.
Now I have examined it more closely.
I'm in front of 2 enemies. Using mouseover the right one shows 'strong'. I can do it several times, it stays at 'strong'. If I hold right mouse button on this enemy to use Scouting Skill it changes!
- 1st Scouting enemy number 18/10/12 -> 'strong'
- 2nd Scouting enemy number 20/12/14 -> 'very strong'
- 3rd Scouting enemy number 22/14/16 -> 'deadly'
- 4th Scouting enemy number 24/16/18 -> 'deadly'
After 4th scouting no further change

I never noticed this bug in vanilla.

Yes, it is NOT Vanilla. We have seen that in our test games too. It's the (damn) modders trying to give AI more creatures according to hero level... we give creatures more stacks either by scouting, just being near, when leveling up and other actions in game. But it seems we have to look at the code again to c if we can improve it. Because you can "cheat" yourself to easier fights this way...

Upgradeable items: we will check, c other post too. Also: Set items are probably difficult to find in this mod since the game ends early; one set that might be possible is the +20 phys. res. bonus (you can craft armor+belt from artifactor if you are lucky to find recipie, buying artifactor from Skillix and Rune magic from Vlandin, then you need the shield to find...).

Ram-thor: It is noted, along with bronter run, and Xev's input to overpow creatures will be done. These changes can be done and they will work in your current game. BTW Spell/items/creature changes happens immediately in current game.

Too long skill choice list: I'm aware of that, have seen it a lot also in Hylfire. To change that would need a lot of modding and testing ... it's not our top priority even though it would be needed if it was an official game from 1C. Ideal would be 2-3 skill choices and a mix of all skill trees. It would give Terroin some long nights... I hope it will not be too inconvenient, perhaps it looks unproffessional... we have decided to focus on balancing and bugs that are crash like.

I guess ideal would be if the fights were easier and bonus lower...? because the game ends arounds level 22 or so.. for now, but I'll check for any overpowerness, and since we might add more maps I guess we shouldn't touch the upgrade-fights at the moment.

SAved game: I checked one fight, but focused only on exp for creatures. I will check again, both creature and hero exp, and more than 1 fight. Here in the weekend.

Question about buildings inside the starting castle:
At the moment weaponry and perhaps stable is the weakest. I never build it (weaponry comes as a choice after building Blacksmith, Stable after building Sawmill). The Stable when maxed give +12 rage after each fight. Weaponry gives a level 1-2-3 item, 3 items in all when fully upgraded.
At the moment I always tend to build Sawmill and Cellar. Then 85% of the times Higher Baracks for level 4-5.

Did anyone try out the Cellar? Or what did you guys build.

Noted. Same with Barrier if you meet that. It is some of the items the Hero Blacksmith can create - some creatures Terrion crafted - you can buy and meet them too. Not sure if Terroin can mod it so they can do actions. At the moment it is just an easier fight.

Thx. I know how to fix it. It doesn't crash, you can continue game, but goes out into Windows. I must have forgotten to make area cells for the valkyrie. Fryseland is a big map, also you will find some ice creatures as part of scenario incl. ice dragon, ice spider, polar bear. There's a cool arena to the west, fighting near the grain field - imo.

Hopland has the most different arenas, I learnt how to make different arenas when finishing Fryseland (Hopland is made after Fryseland and is my latest map). In Bonbong Land you also find a "strange" arena if you fight close to the coast: an arena with off roads in the top and bottom of screen with big chances of chests and altars.

No exp bug: I tried your saved game, Aristobal. It is when you have the item, Block of Honey, on you. Then you don't get exp or treasures!! Take it off, and it will be ok. I tried different fights, on/off items. It is bugged anyway, doesn't give bears. That's why we reduced price and wrote something about doubtable item.

Ram-thor: There was a mistake in code, saying run 5 instead of 50, fixed now. Also I changed speed to 2, else it is not so good... increased ini etc.

I send you all an update on fixed creatures or post here. Very soon.

Delete them or just keep them in inventory. It is only when you have them on your body it is a problem.

Balanced Units
Got some experience with new Ice Falcon and Evil Eye.
Ice Falcon: Reduced to 1 charge of cold stream. Still strong and useful but not overpowered now.
Evil Eye: Reduced to 1 skill Summon Book spell. Still very strong and useful but not overpowered now.

It works!
Copied with replace all kfs files and sounds but not ini-files into resource folder of the app-file. I can start a new game with class selection and even load my savegames from win/bonfire. Companion is correct and works. Class selection give correct starting spells/skills. Class icon at hero screen is wrong and give dialog from this crafting-item dwarf (any idea?)
But I will continue playing on Windows version to be compatible when testing.
I'm very impressed that you could insert the full new classes/gameplay with scripting only!

Exe file has not been modified, should only be data files. But I simply don't know enough about Mac to help you on that. DLLs I don't know.

Enemy stacks raise very high:(
I avoided this enemy in the beginning of the game to come back if my units or hero is stronger. Later in the game I revisited 1st isle and was very surprised what has happened to enemy stacks.
Development of skills, spells, awards, items, hero is the RPG part of this strategy game. RPG development means: trying to get better, stronger than before to succeed against very difficult AI opponents. But the mechanic in Bonfire raises enemies at the same or even greater pace as you can see at both screenshots.
I'm playing a mmorpg atm. My group visits a dungeon. We got wiped within few seconds. What now? The guys of my group try to get stronger, better armor, better weapons, one more level, raise a skill and we will revisit this dungeon with a hopefully better chance. If then the dungeon mobs are stronger in the same pace we would leave the game.
What I want to say is: in a game it must go forward not backward.

Perhaps development of the enemy has to be adjusted down.
On the other hand, I guess you have picked only easy fights to avoid losing any units, as you play NO LOSS. It is very difficult in Bonfire. You need to use different strategies to win. It is better taking some tough ones earlier than later in Bonfire and forget about NO LOSS...

In Heroes 4 the enemy grows too..

When that is said, the way we have made the enemy grow is adding numbers to the stacks no matter if it is a level 1 or 5. So the level 4-5 becomes more difficult faster than level 1-3. When you return to a stack of level 1-3 you'll normally find it is easier to beat compared to your Hero level, and opposite with level 4-5's...

Also if we make a limit on the mapmaker regarding your hero level, you need to stay and do more fights before scavanging and taking out level 1-2's...

I don't know if we can improve the growth to read the creature level so level 4-5 don't grow so fast... if not we can reduce the growth. Lower difficulties have slower growth.

Perhaps, Eucrysty can add something here? He played until level 19 or so.

Yes, castle of fryseland is often empty, just for storing in troops and scenary. I think there are some randomness with a little chance of items/scrolls.

The arena-bug is easy to fix, so are the others. Noted. Also today Terroin is here and we are fixing a lot of bugs. The bug that crashes at dumlor (invisible creature) is fixed. Found out why there could be strange heroes around and fixing them too etc.

Hello ,

From my point of view the version that i testet , alpha was perfect and flawless , besides arturok appeareance and stupid logs in caves blocking for good some good runes and stat boosts.The enemy growth was ok. I played on impossible and beat all enemies in all islands.

I started a new game with the final version shared by Rakfne , differents story .on impossible i was able to win 3 fights so far . and one enemy beaten from 3 fights. the one guarding statue to get companion . so i think something was changed in enemy growth from my 1 test version and this one...

PS . I speak only from IMPOSSIBLE difficulty point of view as i will never play other difficulty since is too boring for me

another aspect in the last version of game is MONEY .i have only 400 gold. i can t beat enemies , can t buy a new map, can t build inn upgrade to gamble...it seems i m stuck and need to start a new game :) and was a good start with 8 wood piles :)

You can sell woodpiles for 1k gold at Martha ... sometimes necessary. Or sell scrolls/items. Also Bonfire is about randomization, sometimes it is too tough...

Also, we haven't changed the growth at all, its random if it is level 1 or level 4 at specific points.

We have fixed all bugs/balances noted here in the forum, the most important ones were:

1. clicking on enemy with scouting changes stacks in them. Now growth of them happens other places in game.

2. ending game at level 2 when playing fixed game (10-15-20)

3. skillix

4. strange heroes to be found somewhere in game, like Arturok for the 2nd time in the cellar.

5. erased the item Block of Honey that were bugged.

6. Sawmill didn't work for level 2-3.

7. Skeletons from Altars are normalized and not insame leadership as Xev mentioned.

8. Crash when clicking high scores when there are now high scores to watch.

9. Oak companion: 50 health pr hero level instead of 40

10. Trick shooter: 30 health pr hero level instead of 40

11. Mapmaker: need 12 kills now instead of 8 to get new map (after the first from Bonbong Land).

12. Working on this, not finished: when getting skill choices from Acrimaldo after leveling we try to make it so you ALWAYS get exactly 3 choices plus a chance of stats/gold.

13. Medal Trapper = lower requirements, Medal Strategist: little lower requirements.

14. strange bug at Dumlor that can crash game: invisible creature to hire, also chance not to do the quest (because you had to pick up an invisible creature...). Now fixed.

15. The crash Xev experienced with an elver army as level 3 on Pnelve is fixed: it was the item Block of Honey. When it was destroyed there were no crash anymore. I guess honey is not good for the health... hmpf hmpf


I'm testing the new things now, they will be avaibable in a new game only (not saved games). When tested, I mail a download link.

I'm sad to hear, you had very good inputs. We want a mod where you can go anywhere in the world, not linear. That's why constant growth is necessary, because it is random which map you take first. Inspired by the growth of creatures as in Heroes of Might and MaGIC 4. Also another way could be to lower growth and make the random pool from maps be different, for instance a random pool in the first hero levels could be between 4 easier maps, and random pool later between 4 tougher maps. Then growth could be like half of current. Or players could just play on lower difficulties for lower growth... impossible level has around double growth compared to the easy level.

Anyway, you have been most helpful.

We are working on the skill choices you get after leveling up, in Hylfire you could get from 0 to many, meaning the whole screen could be filled so you couldn't choose NO SKILLS and int/att ETC. Instead you get 1 random skill to choose between from each skill tree. 3 in all plus the chance of att/def/int/gold/mana/rage.

XEV, it seems to me, that your stuck in the way of thinking/wanting to play the game. You seem to believe you have to play with no loss to have a good time.. but if its to hard for you, then play at lower difficulty.. if you allow yourself to free from the original way of playing the earlier kings bounty games and thinks how to complete bonfire in the best way.. you will find a whole new experience instead of what you think is linear gameplay.. it is nothning of the sort.

The original games was made with main quests, that you in some way had to follow to succeed.. the Islands were mainly on a string following the quest.. this was really linear.. now you have a random world, with random places to go.. can travel ok fast to the first map you get.. all the enemies are random.. sometimes they are allies.. every new game, is a new experience.. as Eucrysty found out.. the game is most fun for me replaying it just after lvl. 6-7 at most.. then start new hero, get new tactics, new creatures, skills, items.. it is very fun that way..

But thank you for your help - the random enemy growth is not something I think we will mess with as the entire world in Bonfire depends on it.

Scaly bracelet is level 4, I suppose you need level 4 artifactor. I think it is the same with the other item, isn't it?

I am on 12 lvl, att 15, def 15, int 8, about 270 k gold, units have 7-8 lvl of exp, Necroh and Ram-thorn are nice due to furious, worms can ressurect if damaged, gorguls are some fragile, but ok, gorguanas are ok, 5 islands are open (Hrasken to be last).

BTW we haven't touched the Rage Skills, only how fast you level them up.
Terroin managed to to make the skill choices more fun now, after leveling up. Now you get exactly 1 of each skill tree, 3 in all to choose between, besides the "gambling" of gold/stats/mana/rage as it was before.

Terroin is here with me today. We will mostly be playing today, only a little modding. As I see it, the biggest bugs have been fixed. There can be balances along the way. But let me know, Aristobal, when you finish game, let me hear your overall thougths on balance etc. After that we will publish the mod.

I checked the items: There are only 2 items that are lizardead... but several for the ice elf race. I guess it is because lizardeads have not been active in the WoTn game. We don't intend to make more items for Bonfire 1. We have focused on new maps, modding, and used the new items from Hylfire.

Also you mentioned the lack of trooptalk for lizardeads: It is noted for a later update... but the level 1-3 you have in the reserve also can be used in a trooptalk... so you can get better trooptalk instead of the Worms if you wish, Aristobal.

I have only a hour or so to play per day. I tried play more. Don't put off mass release of mod waiting when I finish - it may take long time.

A few words about mod.
I liked to play units of 1-3 lvl. I have normal, tough and easy battles, some battles I can't win without losses. Balance by first impressions is ok. I hope you corrected so called "bug" with scouting.

Visual look of new maps is normal, not perfect but normal. I have some glitches when sailing.

In the next update you should take more attention to items, possibility to update them, adjustment of units and races items. It is very important.

Overall the Bonfire is progressive mod, good job of developers. It has all chances to be loved with kings bounty and heroes might and magic community.

Yes, the scouting and development of enemy are fixed. I wrote a post about all the major things we fixed a few days ago. It was very annoying, and important to fix.

We have made some items easier to upgrade, but will have a look on all, to fit Bonfire short games.

Adjustments of units will be a ever lasting process.. we have already adjusted a lot especially level 4-5's after Hylfire. And items for dead lizards are on my to-do-list for later updates.

To all testers: I'm thinking of these 2 things to change in Bonfire:

1. Make the medals easier to optain because of short games.

2. Some quests that can give full set, for instance from guild. You never find sets because of short length of game.

I had too many blue screen crashes with my laptop. I decided to change to another computer. There the game runs fine, but the problem is that I only can play if my two sons aren't at home. Anyway, my remark about a crash can be forgotten.

I think I represent an average gamer here. I usually play on normal and only occasionally on hard level. Here I play on easy level and it has suited me well. I am sorry I can't help you with details, but overall I'd say this mod will be great and lasting fun for players. The problem with WoTN is that it's so huge a game. I actually have been hoping that there was a game just like your mod seems to be.

I like the randomness but it may have strange results: I've reached the second island in the game where I have found just one woodpile so far. And now I've realized I don't need to search for the units I've always used. I'm doing fine with two kinds of snakes and Dryads and two Shooter units. You have really made more units useful.

Erkilmarl: delete Block of Honey if you find it, it can crash games if you carry it. In final version that item is deleted. Good to hear some are playing on lower difficulties with better starting conditions like Leadership, mana etc., that's how it is intended: Impossible is very difficult, much more than in WoTn or Hylfire. So Easy-Normal-Hard is normal in Bonfire!
I played 2 games yesterday just to level 3, one as Hunter and one as the Blacksmith hero. It was just too difficult for me on Impossible... grrr... but that's how it is on that level, especially until level 5. Terroin was playing on his laptown next to me, he had an easy game, using the Kamikaze spell as Berserker Hero has from start (Warrior type!), having the Whale companion that summons Devilfish, then putting kamikaze on the fish and sending them ahead - enemies gather around it with bigger effect... it worked very well for him - a very different combo compared to normal KB games. And it helps being lucky with finding items and gold as he did... grrr.... me not happy... hehe. Also he had the chargers spell that helps to heal Demons, which was his alliance... Seems the Berserker Hero is good with Demons.

Sets: In the first Bonfire version I make part of set avaibable thru the Axe quest, random 2 of 3 items from different lower sets like the Rage set etc can be optained after doing the 2nd quest where you have to find 50 Cave Spider Eggs... also adding quests to the Guild that can give big parts of sets. I avoid sets with huge Leadership since it spoils a Bonfire game where you don't have so much Leadership from start.

Hunter Hero: I added the Hunters Pet to his spell book (5 mana as level 1 spell), so he now has Trap, Precision, Hunters Pet and Slow. It was a little boring to play before, imo.

Hoplands Hideout: I'll greatly reduce them, I find out they grow too, so they grow from the high numbers of creatures I already had given them. Fixed.

Items for companion: Good idea, some items that improve stats of some companions. Not for this release, but a later. I want to wrap things up for the release. It's noted.

The amount of free runes you mentioned: Well, I remember you said you didn't choose skills after leveling up but attack/defense etc instead. In that case ofc you will have a lot of free ones. Maybe just take a few skills, will make your hero stronger.

Exp system: We are trying to make a new, much more exciting creature exp system, but at the moment it is something we are developing, and not even know if it will be possible to mod. Terroin says he is close, so we will see. I don't want to say too much at the moment what exactly it does, the new system...

In General: All the imputs from the testers have been very helpful, especially finding the bugs that are very annoying. In my oppinion there're much less crashes in Bonfire than in Ice'n Fire, since we have fixed many already in Hylfire which Bonfire continues from. The bug when carrying the Block of Honey that made the game crashes when entering a fight was very strange for instance.
When Terroin and I meet next time, we will make a link for the final version of the game !! Therefor we don't want to add too many things, wanna wrap it up.

Arturok can build 3 buildings early game. I have improved one of them, The Leage of Assasins, where you can trade Kill Proofs for level 1-5 units. I have added this to that building:

The level 3-5 units have a small chance of bringing items from the Assasin's Set, Sniper Set and the Shaman's Set for free each time you trade units for Killproofs (chance in that order).
Also trade Kill proofs each for 1500 Gold. (was 1000).

Now it is more interesting. Chances for each item is 6 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 1 - 1 -1% for each item everytime you buy level 3-5 units (7 in all for the 3 sets). Each item only once. Level X units costs X kill proofs, so you pay 3-5 killproofs for units with set chances.

I'm also working on other ways to get set items. I'll post again. I'll be back...

Any comments from the testers?

I don't think I will do much about the Medals for the first release - to avoid last minute bugs - it is easy to make mistakes in the Medals, because I have to change text many places when adjusting them... but my thoughts was to make them easier to optain because games are shorter. What are your thoughts? Something that sticks out?

I have added an INCREASED CHANCES FOR CERTAIN SETS AT FOLLOWING LOCATIONS IN BONFIRE:

Pnelve Islands:
Forest Defender set:
Bird quest: 65% chance of Elven Bow, digged down cage: 35% chance of Silver Horn (65% for Raven item)
Ent quest: 100% chance of Silver Chain Mail
Only thing needed for complete set: Elven Crown, which is random if it is in the game at all (some chance at the "good" castle in Hopland's hideout).

Leage of Assasins from Arturok on Bonbong Land (1-4% chance each time you buy):
Assasins set (2 parts): when buying level 3-5 units for kill proofs. Biggest chance to get from the LoA.
Sniper set (2 parts): when buying level 3-5 units for kill proofs.
Shaman set (3 parts): when buying level 3-5 units for kill proofs. Lowest chance to get from the LoA.


Guild quests:
Valkyrie set (3 parts): 60% chance of each of the Timber, Blood and Bloody quest to get (Winged Helmet, Cloak of Valkyrie and Long/ice Spear).
Hunters set (3 parts): Dumlors Little quest – gives either Hunters Boot or Hunters Gloves. Helplessness quest gives Hunters Jacket with 65% chance.
Rage set, Ice Dragon set: Parts have a chance to appear in the 2 Talking Axe quest.

Morale and upgrading items are 1/3 - 1/4 of Vanillas strength. Should be doable now for a game until level 22 or so.

Will adjust Medal too, anyway, so it is possible to raise all medals to level 3-5 or so.

The surpressing and upgrading fights are easier, so check out when you find one!

Morale: Same stats to achieve, just making them easier to optain. This way, the risk of last minute errors are low.

In the tests, you need 8 kills before getting a new map, we have raised that to 12... one tester had 6 maps at level 7 with the 8 kills...

When the game is out, let me know if something sticks out medal/moral on items/upgrading items/some item stats etc

when press map-button on eastern Fefne islands, world map pop up instead of eastern Fefne islands.

is it possible to add some actors to free casttles (on Hrasken for example) with quests?

Fynnen Island: noted, I'll erase the gremlin towers. It shows world map instead of Fynnen map because there're no map to fynnen island, that's why, we cannot change it. You get there thru fefne islands.

quests: in this Bonfire version, we won't add more quests, it is ready to release. Just wrapping last things up tonight. We start testing for the last time tonight... in 20 minutes.... tomorrow we upload it... I just need to check something on the link, so very soon now... the release.

It's very exciting, after long time working on a project in our spare time, as a hobby and now near a release. Hope you like our "baby". Anyway, we have made it the way we like the game to be. We have listened to the testers a lot, and you have been most helpful!

Before you needed to kill 8 to be able to buy a new map, it is 12 now. There were 2 maps that were bugged so you didn't need to kill any, it was Fryseland and Hopland, fixed now. Also you can click on Acrimaldo and he will tell you how many you need to kill before being able to buy a new map.
Seems good the testing... last speed test with the DEV tools before releasing it... if no problem, then it can be downloaded tonight...
