Hi guys, thought i would post my first thoughts since getting my new PC, my old PC had plenty of CPU power but the SLI config was killing the game. Anyhow-
The game runs fairly smooth for me, although i haven't taken part in any major battles over land, but running at 1920X1200 with everything turned up to the max Iam getting around 50FPS whitch drops to around 30FPS when flying low over land. I am not seeing any stutters now, but there is a wierd shimmer coming from the terrain. The terrain does look fairly reasonable from mid altitude but looks very good when down low, the only downside is the brightness of the green colours, its like being at a early 90's rave party, its too much. However if you alter the time to early morning/late afternoon then this helps considerably.
I haven't fully configured my joystick setup yet but so far the FM feels good, the cockpit detail is incredible along with the damage models. The sounds well, they need work but are bearable. There are a lot of major bugs which have all been listed so I wont go into that, the most annoying one for me though is being able to fly through the Tree's, its just wrong. Overall I can finally see that this game could have hugh potential it just desperately needs fixing, and needs a big big rig to run it.

Nice rig Tree.
For the garish landscape go into your Nvidia control panel and find the digital-vibrance slider. I have mine at 17%. Yes, it's a global effect but I find the reduced colour saturation across the board quite pleasant and you'll soon get used to it. In CoD it makes a world of difference to the colour of the landscape. :)

i found the same until i tweaked my "Adjust desktop color settings" option in Nvidia control panel.. made a world of difference. I've got used to the new setting in other apps & desktop and now actually prefer it. Main thing i did was reduce Digital Vibrance..

He's alive, nice rig its good to see your still posting tree.
P.S. I owe u an apology you were proven right flying above London was a bit laggy, sorry for calling u a troll. :)

lol....lets see how annoyed you get when/if they give trees collision models, and I turn mine off on my modest rig, then you follow me down to the dirt through the trees I dont have but you do. :) Just a thought :)

thats the proplem to give the CoD trees a collision modell ! at least online.
additional to a possible performance decrease.

Sry to have to break it to u, but u will be the one crashing into invisible trees ;)
But i understand your point and hope they can fix it so it can be used without that apparent advantage/dissadvantage. Would love to go down low running a gauntlet to get rid of persuers :). Either way its proppably gonna be an option set by the server online.

Since you say your cpu is overclocked I assume you meant the I7 2600k not the plain I7 2600.
Is the Sabertooth worth the extra money?

Yes sorry the i7 2600k, in my opinion the Sabertooth is a great bit of kit, i did stick a 50mm fan next to the CPU, you can remove a flap on the armour and install it, it just helps keep the PCIE slots at a lower temp.

im fixing things so you dont have to play around with Digital Vibrance ! check the mods section. feedback from those hating the default colours is required, most folks feedback is from a liking of the colours. and dont forget to reset the digital vibrance of course.

Well Tree, flying through trees is indeed very strange, and becomes annoying after some time.i agree with you.dont understand why they just cannot make the trees to have hitboxes like buildings. i know it has been mentioned that its not possible because of playing online, but it should be optimized that far, that everyone is able to play with trees on,so there wouldnt be a problem with some flying without trees but hitting them.its weird in 2011 to have a simulator where you fly through "weed" like a lawnmover.

best solution is to probally have a very basic hitbox in the dimensions of a basic tree stump, a pole !. but the problem is that attaching a new hitbox for every tree (how many trees) might just break the performance we are striving to optimise. and if the network code does not take that into account, flying online would be unfair with a full trees setting v a very low tree setting/
planes whilst able to crash into trees, generally dont so it may be deemed inappropriate for the sim for various reasons. untill there is a satisfactory way of doing it its best left as is unfortunatly. and well ive no doubt that 1c would like to apply collision details to the extent of trees.
maybe one day.

...or an hitting plane, a single 2d object in substitution of a row of trees.

I bet that if the trees get collision detection, the amount of trees will become a server enforced parameter to ensure consistency for all players, then most servers will set it to low to ensure smooth framerates for all their players.

From the FAQ (http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3255155/FAQs.html#Post3255155) at Simhq:
10. Q: I can fly through trees without receiving any damage.
A: Since Cliffs of Dover has more shrubbery in it than perhaps any other flight sim developed so far - hundreds of thousands of trees around the player - enabling collision for the trees grinds the game to a complete halt, especially as they need to be tracked around every plane on the map and not just the player's. Making collisions less precise leads to equally poor results, when planes may fly through a tree but crash into seemingly empty space.
We know this is extremely important. The solution is there, but it still eludes us.

I think the only way for now to make trees "lethal" is to make one big invisible box around a set of trees, much like the old Il2 trees where the ones made out of 4 planes with 4 different textures on them were collideable but not the ones who were "actual trees"
It's never been a problem for me, but I guess on line it coud be a trick to get away or to sneak up on targets , but since the landscape isn't completely planar that won't work in the long run :D

Nice rig Tree! As mine is rather similar I also know that throwing hardware at the problem works rather good ;)

This is probably a very silly comment to make (telling devs how to...), but it struck me before when I read that quote.
Usually in most missions aircraft are confined to a relatively small area of the map so why is not possible to only activate damage effects for trees when aircraft are within a certain distance?
That would certainly change the number needing to be tracked from several hundred thousand to something more manageable. Also discounting aircraft flying above a certain height and it gets even more manageable.
 I'm sure this must not be possible or they would have already done it, but why wouldn't some kind of algorithm like this work?
Good to see you still posting Tree.
Nice rig! I was just reading up on the Sabertooth yesterday... I'm not convinced it really does that much for cooling but it sure looks cool :P
Anyway about the trees. I don't have ClOD as my rig is CrAP, but can you guys tell if they are always in the same spot?
If they're semi-randomly generated it might not be possible to give them hitboxes (yes, that is wild speculation, not an assertion.)

Mmm, went for the P8P67 Pro myself as encapsulating the hardware in a plastic cover feels bad when I have a 200m fan blowing over the MB?
Hey Mazex, just took a quick look at your first post in your "new rig" thread and was surprised to see you were running ClOD OK on a E8400 (which is what I have).
My rig is comprised of:
E8400 + CF 4850s + 2 gigs DDR3 using WinXP... what were your GPU, Ram and OS?

Look in this post where I have scores on the "Black Death" track for my old rig, my old rig with new GPU and finally the new rig. Rather interesting results:

Had 30 fps in average with my old rig on high settings as you can see. Rather OK to me at least! Of course the 68.5 I have now is better ;)

I feel for the guys trying to run COD on older rigs as it must totally wreck the game. I remember happily playing European Air War quite happily when IL2 first came out. My rig just couldn't run it and I was devastated. It was a couple of years before I tried again with a new PC.
I knew COD would be the same so when we started to get more reliable release dates I started building a new rig using many second hand parts from ebay. So now COD runs pretty good for me.
COD is getting better for me, so much so that after reinstalling 1946 with all up to date patches I just couldn't get into it. The graphics are cartoon like and no longer life like for me. I feel like a rookie again and have a lot more to learn but that's what has made IL2 such an incredible game.

D'you think so? I find seeing all the obvious f---ups more painful at high-res, super detail than it was before.
