I had an order placed with Gogamer and they cancelled it because they were redesigining thier site. I since got an email saying they would sell it to me for 39.99 USD once they were up and running again. Well they still have not gotten their site back up. However tonight I got a email saying that their shipment of Cliffs Of Dover had made it in and they had one reserved for me if I cared to get it through Amazon for a discounted price of 39.99, since their site has not made it back up yet. I jumped on it. So I should have it the first of next week.
Any special considerations doing the install I should know about? How about the patch? I plan on flying career mode, I do not do any online flying. Looking at my rig specs any recommendation as to where to try starting off with my settings?

I got the same e-mail and just placed the order myself, too. The wait is on.

Is Gogamer importing the European version or is this the North American version?
Robert
05-13-2011, 03:35 PM
I really don't know, and hadn't considered that. Other locations I checked such as Best Buy still list May 24th as release date. I wonder if that means a huge patch download should it be the EU version.

Got the email it shipped and estimated delivery was May 16th. But it was shipped USPS,,,,,,,,,so who knows. But when I get it I will see if I can tell if it is USA or not.

I think that somewhere in one of the Steam options it will say retail-EMEA(Europe,Middle East,Asia) if it is European.

My game arrived today. Not bad, as it was ordered and shipped 0n the 13th of May and arrived on the 16th. Now for the bad news. I get a "Duplicate Key" message when trying to install it. BTW, the game disc from GoGamer was made in Australia.

Duplicate key?
Does that imply the game is used?
Do you have to call Steam customer support?
Keep us posted.

I'm sure it is treated as if this particular disc might be an illegitimate copy or unauthorized use. Steam support is via the customer service website, not by phone. A photo copy or scanned copy of the disc key code must be provided and I have done that as of this morning. I hope to also see posts by others who purchased the GoGamer item via Amazon.com. I can confirm that the disc is the European release game. If I don't hear from Steam within a day or so I'll request a refund from Amazon/GoGamer.

Mine came tonight, and as of yet I haven't installed CoD. Busy with editing and can't free up the PC long enough to install etc etc... until tomorrow.
The above posts don't inspire confidence. I'll be looking in on this to see the out come. I'll load CoD tomorrow night.
edit: I've never had a problem with GoGamer. All games I've ordered worked fine. This puzzles me. I hope it's not a recent indication of the customer care GoGamer has for their clients.

I bought from GoGamer, also, through Amazon. After reading the above posts, I emailed GoGamer to ask what they were doing about this.
Don't have an answer, yet, but got a response from Amazon basically saying that, not to worry if there was a problem, I could get my money back.
Amazon is very good about refunds.

So , in the end I was send some special edition from Gogamer with the key
which was activated without any issue ? I have the same Australian version DVD disc like you guys .
At least try to create new Steam account with different e-mail address , before entering key
for activation , nothing to lose for tryin' .
Annoying ? yes but it might work .
I never got duplicate key message .

Due to the incoming "carbon tax" in Australia and the "Save the squid society" it was decided that it would be more eco friendly if we just put the same key on all the disc's!
I know UBI has made a lot of mistakes, but getting us Aussies to burn disk's wasn't a very smart move! Set the machine to burn 1000 copies and head off to the pub.
Jumo211 must of been the first to activate his so he wins :)

It would be great if this works out. I was shocked at the uniformly terrible ratings for GoGamer on Resellerratings. The low ratings were mostly for just this sort of problem. Wish I'd checked before ordering but I guess the good price made me reckless.

My order is supposed to arrive between 5/20 and 5/25.

The most important thing is for your game to work when you get it...... and I sincerely do hope it does. At least one other person has a working game from them and maybe yours will too. My comment was probably a result of disappointment at not having a working game more than anything else. What amazed me was that my copy got here so quickly. Three days from California to Kansas is fast!! It actually arrived on the day Amazon forecast it to ship.:-)
Do let us know how things turn out with your copy of the game.

Mine was shipped on the 16th and it is scheduled to arrive on the 24th.
Either way if it doesn't work I guess it won't matter except it gives me a day
to start writing to Amazon.
In the past, GoGamers has been a pretty reliable source for games. I've bought
from them before and many at Joint-Ops where I teach have used them and
never heard a complaint. May be a sign of the times where desperate people
do desperate things. Hope not. Would rather see it as a big mistake.
Anyway, I will keep watching here to see how everyone else does and will
report how mine goes when it arrives. Good luck all.

Here is exactly what I did :
Selected " allow all " for my personal firewall software to make sure there is
no connection issue during install .
I did not used Windows CD/DVD autoplay option when popping disc in to drive
but opened manually disc files ( not that much difference anyway ) , then
clicked on Steam " Setup " shortcut and that did bring a small CloD install window ,
then clicked on install CloD option and Steam started to install ( I did not have
Steam installed at all up to that point ) .
The next thing it asked me shortly after if I want to use existing account or creating
a new one and since I forgot my previous login name and password from a
long time ago I selected to create a new account .
After entering all the necessary required stuff I clicked to proceed but was
returned back to previous install progress window telling me my account
e-mail address is already registered Ooops ! I registered about 7 years ago but did
not really used Steam at all
So I just selected creating a new account option again using a different
e-mail address with user name and then got through installing Steam without
a hitch which right after it was installed asking me for the CloD key number
which I typed exactly as it is on the included piece of paper inside the box
XXXXX-XXXXX-yada yada yada.......and after two seconds it was success giving
me finally option to start installing CloD .
That's it , a little hiccup with creating a new Steam account but success .
I must have been lucky after reading recent posts , I thought I will meet the
same fate but it worked .
So far the game experience is now for me the biggest shock :x

Where did you get your game from? I spoke to the guy from GoGamer on the phone a few minutes ago. Sounded like everyone who got the game from him has the same problem I have. They are contacting the manufacturer in Australia looking for an answer. Hopefully they will supply us with new keys tomorrow. If you got your game from Gogamer it just seems odd that you are the only one that had a working key. Makes me wonder if we all had the same key and you were just the first one to install it. When did you install?

My response from GoGamer:
Robert,
We do apologize for the inconvenience regarding this duplicate cd key for this new release game Il 2 Cliffs of Dover. This seems to be a big problem as many customers are saying the cd keys are duplicated. We are working through email with the manufacturer for solutions on this issue and we will let you know what solution they forward to us. This could be a problem with STEAM as this game releases next week and that could be why the cd key is not going through.
Thank you

I went to Steam customer support and filed a work order with them. (just click on your account from steam window) They give you the details of how to do it. Basicly you title it, invaid key or reset to. You need to type in what the problem is. You will have to send them a photo copy of your reciept and Key. I could not attatch mine right off the bat. After I did the work order and I got the email replay, I went back in and attached it. I then got another email asking me to write in ink on the paper with the key the work order number and make another copy and attach it to the work order and I did. Then I got an email saying they have added the game to my folder and gave instructions on how to install it from the cd instead of downloading it. Worked like a charm. Still waiting on the updates to finish.

I heard from Steam today as well. Just finished the download. I expect that anyone who submits the required items will be running shortly. Two days for the first reply and then one day later I was notified that the game could be downloaded or installed from the disc. Now to notify GoGamer that all is well.

Wouldn't you think that Steam would know who you are, already? CoD includes Steam, so they should be able to help you without all of the copying and attaching of things.
I got an email from GoGamer acknowledging the problem. They are working to get things right.

I was not so fortunate. After playing email tag with Steam & GoGamer for the last week, got this note from Steam...
"Hello Kenneth, This is not an authorized re-seller of Steam CD Keys. Please do not complete any purchases with this vendor. Only CD Keys included with retail copies or purchased from authorized retailers will be allowed. Please contact them again and discuss a refund. Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns."
I passed this on to GoGamer who immediately replied with an RMA so that i could return the product for a refund. I know some where successful with Steam resetting the key.
Note, Amazon is back to listing CLoD as "pre-order", and GoGamers website is still down. What a mess.

I was not able to work with Steam as well. I sent them all the required information and Steam told me they could not help me so I had to send the COD back to Gogamer for a refund.
This is UBI responsibility to provide the DVD and the product code but unfortunately for me this was a disappointment and just another black mark for COD.

The second was from Steam answering my question about being able to activate when CoD arrived fro GoGamer. They said Cod couldn't be activated until it was released on Steam!! I asked when that would be, and said I hoped it wasn't July.
So, will I get Cod and the refund from Amazon, get Cod but not be able to activate it on Steam until who knows when, not get Cod through Amazon, and have to get it somewhere else?

I am sorry steam would not work with you guys. I am just glad they did for me. I love the sim and you will too. My biggest complaint is the lack of a real campaign mode like I was use to in the old IL-2. If they come up with that then I will really enjoy this flight sim to the fullest.
