I do not have an ATI 6970 but I do have a ATI 6850.I have an HDMI cable going to my Sony TV as well as my monitor.I had to set it up in the CCC under desktop management.CCC and driver version 11.3.

There is a setting in the CCC to enable that feature but I don't use that with my 6970

The p in 1080p doesn't apply to PC resolutions its all the same 1080 pixel height.

TV resolution is based on lines of resolution.. PC screens has vastly higher levels of resolution based per pixel. Most images will not scale up that well..

I think its just the ati card, i dont think there as good as nvidia, i mean look at the sky in this shot
its not zoomed in, this is what i see every time i look up
http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/8172/shot20110425191646.jpg (http://img708.imageshack.us/i/shot20110425191646.jpg/)
Im thinking of getting rid of this card, even though its only a few days old
for a nvidia card, because im just not happy with it

The 'P' means progressive scan, as apposed to interlaced which is found in older TVs. Any image from your PC will be progressive so don't worry about not seeing the 'P'. The pixelated sky is a strange one though.

Did you uninstall all of your NVidia drivers before installing the 6970? Image quality should be identical on both cards.

Why use HDMI when DVI is good enough? I have no problems with colors or anything like that with my 6970HD. I run on a BenQ 24in 1920x1200 (16:10).
Heya Doc,
That pixelated sky is def a bug in something you setup. I had it for a little while and unfortunately do not remember how I got rid of it again. (Only thing that comes to mind is your still running kegetys mipmap mod or something, Ill try later to see if I can replicate it)
I do feel you though, it seems ATI cards have much more graphical bugs then Nvidia ones right now. (My main gripe still being the three blue lines on the horizon I can´t seem to get rid of :()

im not running no mods, so im not sure what this is kegetys mipmap mod
And the sky is very annoying
The 3blue lines i only get if i run dx10, if i run dx9 i dont get them
Ive also gone back to Dvi
If you got anymore help on the sky, then plz add

Doc,
I'm using a 6970 with the Cat 11/3 drivers and I don't have the pixelated sky. I'm not sure what causes it in your case, but here is the contents of my conf file from "C:\Users\NJM\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\conf.ini". You could try temporarily renaming your conf.ini file to something else and putting the text below into a new conf.ini. If it fixes the sky, then you can try and work out which graphics setting causes it.
I share your exasperation that 1C don't seem to have bothered testing the game on AMD Radeon cards. I bought my 6970 specifically for this game, but I'm not sure now that it was the best choice. The graphics error that winds me up the most is the lack of horizon haze and that blue line/lines on the horizon. That was missing on my Nvidia GTX285. Mind you, by the time they have fixed some of the other more serious problems (broken CEM etc) then they may well have got the graphics problems sorted out.
Cheers,
Nick

You are welcome Doc :) Did you file the Driver Feedback Form to AMD? I did describing the issues like those stripes etc. The more feedback they get the better. Make sure to put in detail how to reproduce the bugs, will help. Sure it can be hard for the driver teams to do something unless they get info from Luthier & Co too. But at least they are aware of the issues.

Feedback to the driver teams is all very well (assuming it's a driver issue at all and not just poor coding by 1C), but shouldn't 1C be in direct contact with them? In fact, shouldn't 1C know about and be fixing the "blue lines" Radeon problem? It's their responsibility, not ours.
Well, I did test it with DX9 like Doc suggested and the blue lines dissapear there.
For me running the game in DX9 is a bit of a no go though since I seem to have only half fps as in DX10.
Running the game in DX11 (yes, setting that in conf.ini actually works :P) has no blue lines but various other graphical bugs, suppose theyre still testing that out.
But yeah, the three blue lines on the horizon seem to be a directX10 specific bug in combination with Radeon cards.

Erm, I just set it in the conf.ini :P
You know where normally the D3D10_0 or something is, just change that to 9 or in my case 11. To be honest I don´t know if it actually works that way but it sure seemed to have an effect, but I should try setting it to 12 or something too I suppose, to see if it´s not a hoax ^^
I have to warn you though, it lead to some funky graphical bugs for me (most notably with the terrain transitions between land and water, black lines on the edges of what I take to be terrain blocks and the majority of the houses not rendering). But! No blue lines on the horizon XD
But yeah, thats how I set it.

Only way seems to be running the game in DX9 instead of DX10.
For me running it in DX9 is unacceptable though since my fps suffer quite a bit doing so.

That's not the solution for sure, but thanks for the suggestion :)
I experimented for days trying to sort it out. Only solution that works is setting the renderer in conf.ini to either DX9 or DX11, both of which either degrade fps or visual quality quite a bit.

I'm happy with direct x 10 giving the current state of the game, 3 blue lines on the horizon is harmless compared to the big picture
