All before the patch ;)
All british planes have boost, first you have to engage the "boost cut out" , than you are able to push the throttle from 100% too 110%.
IF there is a boost effect actually, that have to tell you other persons. At least in the Spit II there is a additonal perfomance.

German planes with boost are 109, 87 & 88.
In them you have to engage the "WEP" button.

Press the "T" key, that should be a default key for "boost cut out", if it doesn't work, find it in controls and map it to some key.

From what i've been able to see, pressing W or backspace just moves the throttle to full in the 109.

This is probably because the 109E doesn't have a separate boost mechanism, emergency power is just full throttle. If we had a late model 109 with GM50 injection, i guess that pressing these keys would turn the GM50 system on/off.

That's correct. If there is not an extra system (like water injection or mw50, which is stuff that's found on late-war aircraft), pressing the WEP key will just advance the throttle to 110%.

This is how it is in reality too, we just got confused and learned it the wrong way from all these years flying IL2 and now we have trouble understanding the difference ;)

In most aircraft war emergency power just means going full throttle and nothing more. The extra systems that inject additional stuff into the engine usually are not there to produce more power, but to enable the engine to run at full throttle for a longer time without damage by preventing the detonation effect.

In the Spitfire, you push it. In the Hurricane, you pull out the plug. Same engine, different control but they both do the same thing.

you still have to push your throttle forward too 110% and you are able to pull it back too 100% ;)

Yes we don't know if this is a bug or that only the ground crew can return this to its original position :) i think its a bug but time will tell. just be sure to return it to 100 percent or lower when out of the woods.
