When flying in formation I can't help but think that the Luftwaffe fighter formations are too tight to be historically accurate.

The whole principle behind the Schwarm tactics was that it allowed the individual pilots to concentrate on detection rather than making sure they are in tight formation.

This is why it was superior to the vic formation as those pilots spent most of the time looking at each other and maintaining formation, giving the enemy a good chance of attacking them undetected.

When I saddle up in formation in a mission in COD I find I'm constantly trying to maintain formation as it's very tight, and I don't have time to check my 6.

Yeah I could just fly as loose as I want but I want to simulate the real thing. Plus you'd probably get a better advantage when bounced if we were all spread out a bit more.
