There's talk of a demo on the way however they're still ironing out bugs with ATI cards.

fractal is nice to generate tons of random mountains quickly, but when it comes to a real map you still have to do it yourself, we should have the same water though (DX10 rendering)

outerra is openGL 3.3 not dx10

as for the map they import real terrain data and 'map' the entire planet.

*edit* also its a non starter for this game. this game isn't even officially launched world wide they're not about to consider swapping in a brand new engine after 6 years developing this engine.

so they achieve to have a realistic environment for the whole planet ?

so they achieve to have a realistic environment for the whole planet ?yup. its a fairly amazing piece of technology i don't understand it 100%. data is streamed in/out as needed.

it is just alpha until someone uses it as their game engine though. many many tools needed to make a game around it are needed and the devs of outerra have said as much.

it is however really amazing.

This was mentioned regarding Cliffs of Dover back when it was Storm of War.
A couple years ago, at least, it was this program or something similar.
It is impressive that they were running those demos on a Core2Duo and an 8800GTS.
