View Full Version : Controller axes not being picked up by game

I am posting here because I am having no luck in the controls section.

I have three CH controllers (Fighterstick, Pro-Throttle and Pro Rudders), they work perfectly fine in Win 7 64 bit with IL2 46.

In CoD however the game is not picking up the controllers, either with the CH Software or without it and after numerous install/uninstall routines with the controller software the game still does not pick up the axes.

Be aware I KNOW HOW TO GET THE GAME TO SEE THE CONTROLLER by double clicking the selection box in control section.

The fact is that no matter what I do the game is not seeing the axes.

I know I am not alone with this problem so lets hear some of you experts come up with a fix please.... pretty please with cherries on the top :)

BTW running missions etc on autopilot the game is playing pretty good for me on a low end system no other complaints here :)

Wulf.i am running same as you 3 CH setup win 7 64bit and it picks them all up,anything you want me to test?

Are you running them with the CH Software mapped?

I have tried disabling and enabling the Steam-Cloud setting and while it seems to delete all controllers and assignments, it still does not allow the game to pick up the axes :(.

When I clich the Clear box followed by the change box a new box pops up which like the old IL2 46 is meant to pick up on any control you move, however absolutely nothing happens.

I'm stumped but I'm sure it's a simple tick box somewhere I'm missing.

I saw your post on the CH forums and was going to reply to you there, but here is as good. Like SsSsSsSsSnake and yourself I am running the same setup but have no problems with the detection of my equipment. I will try to help as best as I can.

What version of Windows are you using?
Are you using Raptr?
Do you have a G15 or similar keyboard?
Do you use the CH Control panel program?

When Revvin posted his .cmc I tried to create a map but had no luck getting COD to see my config so I do not use the CH control panel and just map the buttons straight to the devices.

Hi thanks.

I'm running Win 7 64 bit.

I have a Saitek Gaming board, don't know what Raptr is....

I have tried both with the CH software and without, I have tried with the CH software uninstalled, I have tried mapped mode, direct mode and off mode, and about every other variation I can think of.

I have tried with Steam Cloud and without as well.....and booted/re-booted all bloody week lol.

No matter what I've done the game is not picking up the controllers.

BTW IL2 46 works perfectly no control issues.

when you click to open the box does it recognise your keyboard commands?

Redroach
04-06-2011, 07:39 PM
Is it only the axes? If yes, then you could try to enter stick axes manually into whatever your key configuration savefile is - that's what I did when my axes weren't recognized, too, and it worked (save for having to reconfigure throttle sensitivity etc. everytime I log in, but that seems to be another bug).

So, open your Key config savefile (If you don't have one yet, just make one), search for the stick axes section and insert the correct axes.
Be aware, my rudder-twist (on my ancient Wingman 3d) axis was not just "Z", but "RZ", so you might have to insert special axis names there, too. What I did to find this out is to look into the corresponding Il-2 1946 Key config file. So, you might have to do this, too for your rudder/throttle.

have you tried just the stick on its own,no pedals or throttle connected

Raptr is like xfire, I had a lot of trouble with CH Profile Manager my G15 keyboard and Raptr.
Do any of the buttons work like the trigger buttons, when I first loaded up the game the axis were already mapped and the trigger/pov switches were also. Also check in the devices and printer section in the start bar and see if there are any unknown devices listed in the bottom.

Muesli,I used to love eating it for breakfast what is Rhaptr?

My old,old,old school nickname. :)

Raptr is a instant messenger services that tracks all your friends on various platforms (steam xfire, xbox live etc) and tracks how long you have been plating certain games for etc.

http://raptr.com/

I liked it but had to remove it so I could use my HOTAS and G15 keyboard which were crashing taskmanager every 5 mins.

I cant find where the game is stored in Win 7.

I can find the cof inis etc in the documents section, but with three controllers to map it gives 9 possible ways of screwing up and causing more trouble, I'd rather get to the bottom of why the game is not seeing the controllers.

Snake, the game responds (sometimes, intemittently) to button commands, but nothing at all to the axes.

I might try copy andd pasting from the IL2 46 conf. file see what happens :)

Could you try them out on a different computer?

COD Installation is in

Program Files(x87)/steam/steamapps/common/il2 cliffs of dover <--- This is just off memory as I am at work and can not check.

Bloody hell that worked..... :o:o:o

just briefly flown and tested all the axes and they are working after I copy and pasted my IL2 settings into the CoD settings :)

It may take some time tomuck about and refine these but at least I can now partially control the plane :)

Thanks everyone and I will keep updating my progress :)

Well it doesn't fully work, I have my throttle and Joystick axes, but nothing else......and I still cant map/change/add the axes in the controls section. So still a bit of a bleeding mystery lol.

Ah well at least I can make the things go up and down and control engines, just got 50% damage on 3 Spits in a 110 in my first controlled mission

I can use the keyboard to assign commands in the buttons section, but I cant get anything to work in the axes section :(

BTW I wonder is it because I am using Win 7 64 bit ULTIMATE??

i dont think ultimate should make a difference. so am i correct in thinking you are saying when you click the axes section and get the empty box for aileron you cant type say v and use that\/ if the answer is no then its not your stick because i can type any letter into the aeleron axis and it accepts it?

123-Wulf-123
04-06-2011, 10:14 PM
I can type keyboard keys into the box, whatever I want, but nothing when I move the stick/rudder/throttle.

I don't think its the game......its something to do with whatever way my Win 7 works with the CH hardware.

ultimate has the languages pack, doesnt it what else could be causing it in ultimate?

Meusli
04-06-2011, 11:32 PM
I use Ultimate so it's not that. Do you want me to email you my CHProfile that I am setting up at the moment? You can load it from the settings section.

123-Wulf-123
04-06-2011, 11:39 PM
Thanks Muesli, I can try it, bear in mind I have both my Il2 profile and my CH Hangar profile for CoD already, neither work, so I wouldnt hold out much hope.

What you could is email me your conf.ini?

See if that works.

Having said that WHICH .ini file is the one that I need to deal with in CoD there are four different ones?

Meusli
04-07-2011, 01:07 AM
I can send you the documents one if you like, thats the one I think is used. Also the other profile I was on about is when you map joystick keys in IL2 COD it allows you to save a file as a profile. I could send you that as well?

This is my joystick config, save this file as whatever you wish then load it up in the control options and apply.

OK UPDATE

I did not realise in Win 7 that there are two sets of cofuser.ini files, one in the the Steam folder where the CoD game is filed, and one in the Documents>1c SoftClub>Il-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover section.

I have no idea why there are two sets of .ini files(on my system anyway)

Anyway....I copied the Documents/1C SoftClub/Il2 conf.ini into the Steam/Steamapps/Common/Il2 folder......and now all my axes work, the buttons don't (yet) :)

Going to fiddle about more :)
