Perhaps someone on this forum with the knowledge could create some step-by-step coldstart instructionals either by video or text with pictures for all flyable aircraft?

I think that's necessary for a lot of new guys :)

Yes please! I cant start anythign on the ground :(

Here is the 109.

Since I made this I found out that radiator at 50% is correct and to always keep an eye on engine temp. Plus leading edge settings were for Tiger moth only.

In A2As 109 E-3 it's like that:

Cool vid, thanks...does the engine always start? for example throttle at 2 percent, does she start, and then die?

You would make a fine politician, you dodged my question:grin:...does the engine start and then die due to pilot error during the start-up procedure, ..or.. the motor will always start and stay running, no matter any pilot error such as closed throttle? Just curious if hard starting run/die due to pilot error is modeled...I gotta get this game, so many questions:-P

Any cold start vids for the Blenheim Bomber?

I like the BOB WOV startup procedure where you had to prime the fuel pump 7 times before the engine started. This could be very immersive when the field is being attacked and your trying to get the engine started. Sometimes you would miss count in panic situations and the engine would just turn over or partial start and die.

Yup. Too much/too little/too fast and youre gonna choke/cut/kill :-)

Thats what I was hoping for:grin:

I kind of figured out how to start up most of them planes... It is important to find magnetos for the engine that you wanna start and turn them on, and turn all fuel tanks that can be turned on.
German planes just start right up and you are ready to go, with the British ones you need to play around with the throttle a bit. Start with like 10% throttle and slowly add up when the prop start turning. Watch the RPM gauge. I guess it is because of the fuel injection/carburattor difference. On Tiger Moth you need to play with the mixture too, start with low mixture and throttle, follow the RPM gauge with throttle movement, and when the rpm is steady, turn up the mixture to max. After like 10 seconds turn up the throttle and you are ready to go.
I don't say this is the best way, just that it works.
Now im gonna start learning how not to fry the engine when flying the plane...

Would it be possible to have resources thread where folks can download Track files for engine starts, and anything else helpfull, etc. There aren't any Track files in the stock game and could be useful to have a library in the 'records' folder which can be accessed any time. I was stumped on my first take off and had to rely on the forum and thankfully video's.

The radiator only opens up to 50%

Actually the radiator opens fully. I've confirmed this by going to external view and working the radiators to see if it makes any difference.

It's just that the slider in the info panel is displaying user input instead of radiator position: open/neutral/close.
So, whenever you press open the slider jumps all the way up, if you press close it jumps all the way down and if you release the key it returns to center. In other aircraft where the radiator is on a slider in the cockpit it behaves just like throttles, that is, it indicates the actual position of the radiator. This is also true for the 109's oil cooler flaps, the sliders indicate the position of the actual in-game control in the cockpit. For the water radiator though it indicates user input and not control position.

I guess this is because it works like the 109's flaps, the controls for them act for only as long as you keep pressing the relevant key.

This is also why people who map a slider to the radiator have problems with the anthropomorphic modeling setting: if the slider is off-center on the HOTAS, the game registers that as a continuous input and "ties" their "virtual hand" perpetually to the radiator hand-crank mechanism, not allowing them to use any other controls (since the other virtual hand is on the stick).

Hope it helps.

On another note, i spent 15 minutes today on the runway in the cross country mission trying to get the Ju88 going, to no avail :-P
I turned on all the fuel tanks on the switch box on the left side console, set full prop pitch, gave it some throttle, opened radiators, turned on the magnetos, selected engine 1 (since CEM requires separate engine starts) and pressed I to engage the starter. The prop just turns and stops.

Looking around over the left-hand console in the cockpit and enabling the click-pit via F10 to see the tooltips, i saw that there are controls that are partially or fully obscured by the pilot's seat and it's impossible to move the camera to see them due to the cockpit movement zone restrictions (ie, how camera panning/head-tracking is implemented in the game). I tried this both with Freetrack and with mouse panning, but anything aft of the pitch control levers is obscured. The only thing that's visible is the radiator control for engine 1.

I don't know if there are extra controls further aft that i might be missing, like for example a master/battery switch or a master fuel valve.
