Hi Lemmi

, i had the same problem as you when i tried to run this Game under Windows XP SP3 ( just one of the few problems at all ).

Even playing with the Video settings, installing new Graphics Card Drivers, DirectX, etc keeps the graphics corrupt.
So i installed also on Windows 7, there the Graphics Issue disappear but the Performance ( Settings on Medium ) is still very poor ( better as in Windows XP of course :-) , but far away from good ). I neither in windows XP either in Windows 7 was not able to get my HOTAS Cougar to work and had to use the keyboard for testings.

My Computer Spec's are :

Core2Quad 9400 2,6 Ghz, 6 Gb RAM ( XP don't use more then 4 ), GTX470, HOTAS Cougar

Just tested it on XP. My conf is P4 - 3.2ghz, 2 gb Ram and 8800GT at 1280x1024 low settings. The quick missions above the sea runs at generally 20 FPS (for example mission with 9 German bombers) with random slowdowns to 7-10 FPS if bombers are too close. The situation with land is not that good - 13-15 FPS (depends on the amount of planes on the screen). In any case it's 100 times better then before the patch, as it was absolutely unplayable.

Hi Nike-it

, the Epilepsic filter Option was visible on the Video Settings Menu, so i think it musst be with the Patch on.

Will check at Home again, to be 100% sure wich Version shows.

Strange, for me many issues disappeared after the patch. In any case the dev team is doing its best to improve the performance, and that's not the last patch.

Win XP Pro-SP3 is a no go for me. Major Graphics corruption. Ive tried everything. Im running the russian version. Seen the same Graphics issues on the Sukoi website. Seems to be a shader problem.
I have no Idea what to do. Ive tried pretty much everything I could think of. Im even running Nvidia Beta Drivers atm..Version 270.53 is or somthing.

Early days for me (just installed CE DVD). I have settings on low to medium for the time being but its loading oK and good enough for testing/setting everything up (over the sea NOT land/towns). I have disabled epilepsy filter, assigned most background processes to the second core using task manager, Freetrack, Saitek profiler and anything else that can be shunted over. Haven't tried anything else more demanding as I cannot get the throttle to function correctly in the controls menu. My spec is bottom end.....

I'm running on XP and it seems to be working ok.

Only issues of note I've had other than some low performance is that the sea was green, but sorted that by turning forest detail down to very low, and I can't get anti-ailiasing to work (although not sure I want to if it slows it down too much.)

Getting 30 - 40 FPS now over the channel after I turned forests down.

Other issues are that the Pilot and Aircraft viewer result in a black window after working for a few seconds (as in where the 3d model of the Pilot or Aeroplane was goes black, but the menus are still ok), and if I turn on shadows the missions will freeze during loading - but I don't know if they're XP issues or just my PC.

Maybe someone with more PC knowledge than me could chime in but the one variable I've noticed in all these XP threads here and else where is the GPU. Everyone that says they have a problem and can't run it in XP has a NV card, ATI owners seem to at least get it running. Anyone else notice this?

WinXP SP3 here.

The unpatched Russian Version worked best for me (except when going near bombers)
You need to look at the fps rate moving the screen to the left (I run it at 3072x768)

Unfortunately after the patch both English and Russian versions cause me problems, I have to turn grass=off to make the game run and now I have graphics problems :-(

Nice!

Set the game on low or very low! You should fix it but you'll get this graphic:

Acthung Spitfire! This game is a dream!

I have also many problems in thecockpit like clouds, tracers crossing it and some other problems.

Running XP SP2 here and I don't seem to be getting any self shading/shadowing (whatever you call it), just the gradual dimming of parts which aren't exposed to the sun. There are screens a few posts up showing self shading on XP so I'm pretty confused as to why it doesn't work on my pc...
Any ideas anyone?

Yes, for WinXP users, with the patched version, if your game stops at 95% while loading a mission, you must turn Grass OFF

I have a strange problem with the patched version: I have to turn Grass OFF because I run WinXP. Since, the sea looks very strange:
http://grathos.de/temp/Sea_Problem.JPG

The solution is there if you only change one setting:
http://grathos.de/temp/Sea_Problem_Fixed.JPG
Change Forest = NONE
http://grathos.de/temp/Sea_Problem_Fixed_settings.JPG

I hope this helps some WinXP users like me....
I have this from somebody else who mentioned it in a thread, unfortunately did not keep his name (nor the thread)

Hi Folks

I had the green sea problem with XP

my fix - that I found all by myself !....

in the config.ini change

VisibilityDistance=3

into

VisibilityDistance=2

this should fix the 'green sea'

I've switched forest off and grass off and shadows off but have model detail high and the rest medium....over water FPS is good even with 6 Vs 6 dogfight.
Over land not as good, but have managed to fly the first 2 missions of RAF campaign.

Are you sure it wasnt switching forest off that fixed your green sea? Turning forest to very low fixed my green sea issue. Where can I find the config.ini in XP?

It can not be, or mybe you should install the DX9 version that is included with the CoD.

For me (WinXP) setting forrest OFF fixed the problem of the green sea

using the original russian version, with this system
XP SP3
Q6600
EGA 285 card
4 gb ram
Ch pro set
Track IR 5

I havent tried in a few days but it was working ok at 2500 res, but slow.
I only flew by myself with the grass on.
Track IR got working fine
None of the graphical things I am seeing here and I think I had medium settings on everything(hard to read in russian)

WinXP and DX9 mode

So now, I managed to get the 1024x768 window to work, the results look good and the fps, too:

A significant decrease from the 433fps at 800x600 mode, now only 270fps! (I think I will survive the hit...)
http://grathos.de/temp/CoD/2_270fps.JPG

Same picture with cockpit on, now "only" 162fps (mirror off) Notice the change of color of the sea due to the cockpit
http://grathos.de/temp/CoD/2_270cockpit162fps.JPG

Still the graphics quality is excellent!
http://grathos.de/temp/CoD/2_Window1024.JPG

The sun effects are magnificent, when the sun hits the front window you are completely blind
(on the side)
http://grathos.de/temp/CoD/2_sun.JPG

Also when the sun reflects on the front thick window from the rear, you also become blind

Intercepting many bombers, the stuttering problems are gone (I had 2(two)fps flying 3072x768 before the patch)

It is very promising
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After reading hundreds of posts, and seeing actual FPS of 20 to 30 FPS over land and buildings in low

setting with average PCs reported by many players , I have to admit that if Luthier reaches his goals , we

are in for a good ride within few weeks:

1. Performance increase. Over terrain, the two things that slow things down the most are trees and

buildings. We are currently in final stages of testing optimized buildings that almost double the FPS over

London on a test machine.
Tree optimization is a little farther away. You will probably see changes in how trees are rendered, they’ll

take longer to appear over terrain, but once again, performance increase should be significant.
If everything tests correctly over the weekend, both of these should be released by early to mid next week.

2. Enhanced multicore support. The mode that we unfortunately were not able to finish in time is sending all

render to a dedicated CPU core. The mode is working but somewhat buggy. It easily doubles the FPS, and the

performance boost is especially noticeable in larger missions with lots of stuff going on.

So double + double should look good ! And add the SLI in the near future And maybe 64 bits...

Salute !

I have a bottom end spec

4Gb Ram - XPsp3 - GTS250 (512mb) - Dual Core E5400 2,7Ghz

Screen Res 1280x768

Nvidia control panel set to default (no triple buffering, etc)

VideoSettings Low except for Model Detail/Effects which are medium. Trees, grass, roads, shadows all off.

I have a minor artifact that suddenly shows up all the time (ringed in the pic below) and can be seen in the other screenshots. Nothing major and runs well enough untill the fixes and upgraded CPU/GFX card are fitted.

Combat over Sea is acceptable and, as can be seen, fps drops as ac get closer and debris starts to fly off. These are momentary drops and still acceptable. Switch mirrors 'off' and FPS increases but not necessary most of the time.

Athos, please show your conf.ini...

I didn't touch my config but noticed that my Nvidea driver is the one that came with the GTS250 v182....your driver is much newer than mine. Not sure that can help but the FAQ say that rolling back to an earlier driver can help with graphic glitches. All the best, it must be infuriating....

I installed it under 32-bit Win XP and it ran so badly as to be useless. Last night I installed 64-bit Win 7 and it runs much, much better.

I haven't had a chance to benchmark it, but the FPS is much improved and I can fly over the water quite smoothly. Flying over the land is still a FPS killer but can be done for sightseeing with the settings turned down.

If you are serious about continuing with CloD, I would suggest Win 7 as a good way forward. But we really need some optimisation!

I post this here because I think I found an easyway to identify when the limit of your current rig is reached, with GPU-Z:

Finaly after three days of hard work testing the new setup under Win7 I noticed following interesting things
probably worthwhile sharing.

Yes, it is playable but your GPU must have lot's of memory!
Back in Christmas when I was buying my new GTX-570 with 1280Mb RAM I though the Nvidia guys had gone crazy.
I am happy now I kept that thought to myself.

Win7-64bit is a must, otherwise in WinXP you will be stuck to run the game at 640x480 kai 800x600 resolution (maybe also 1024x768)

Sorry the photos are big because my desktop has 3840x1024 resolution (three monitors) and the game runs in the middle window at 1280x1024.
At the far right are the interesting stats on CPU and GPU workload:

#1 The game appears to be using nicely many CPUs, I have Process Affinity=6 (using cores 1+2 out of the four 0,1,2,3)
the system runs very smoothly and total CPU usage is 30% (whereas WinXP had only 13%).
So, thanks to Win7-64 the CPU doubled, this is good news! :-)
It is a bit surprising though as it conflicts with the statement that the game poorly support multiple-cores.
You will see that the CPU usage is very evenly spread around the four cores, I am also surprised myself.

#2 The less good news is the consumption of GPU memory. The freeware GPU-Z is an excellent way to monitor this in real time.
Here GPU-Z shows the results of the first GTX-570 (the second being idle).
The most important is in the middle of the GPU-Z window, the Memory Used
Above the sea, 1280x1024 Memory Used is 959Mb RAM :excl:
Above land, 1128Mb RAM :excl: :excl:
MY GPU has 1280Gb RAM so it can still run smoothly but if the GPU has less then problems will start and you will have
to lower the resolution or the quality (grass, roads, shadows, etc, etc).

I must underline that I am more interesting in flying dogfight than enjoying eye-candy;
The new game has endless capabilities in graphics and it is definitively very heavy for most graphics cards available today (at least until the next patch arrives)
but I do not care that much; if I wanted nice graphics I could have been flying MS FSX four years earlier...
What I find very annoying on the other side though is the unconfirmed information that AI can see through thick clouds
(they had promised us they would fix this in the IL2FB days, it will be a major issue if they did not) -
I can not confirm as I have not tested it yet myself - too busy trimming my rig.

Using GPU-Z you can easily check whether you reached the limits of your system, watching Memory Used and Memory Controller load.
I hope this helps somebody, especialy those who start frustrated "my resolution is 1600x... the game is unplayable" types of threads

Hi,
Installed COD over the weekend. Initial experience was quite frustrating, graphic corruption, CTDs. Once I read the forums and began tweaking (forest & grass off, affinity mask, etc.) things have improved considerably. I’ve found that turning off AA/AF and changing to performance settings on card increased FPS at the expense of further graphics corruption. So what’s working best now is keeping texture setting on quality, turning AA and AF down to 2x and vsync on.
I can now play the quick missions. Regular missions are still problematic. Over water I average 30-40 fps and over land about 10 fps less. There is some stuttering in either case. Strangely, lowering the number of default planes doesn’t seem to have a tremendous affect on frame rate.

My home-built PC:
Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L
P4 (Pressler) OC@3.84Ghz
4GB RAM (~3.25)
GTX 260 W/270.51 beta driver
Acer 22” @ 1680X1050
WinXP SP3

OK, I'm also running XP SP3, Nvidia 9600GT & dual core 2800 with 4Gb ram. It's still unflyable really, but here's a few screenies, runniing at very low framerate:C:\Program Files\Fraps\110.jpeg

Your video card is holding you back. You'll need a better one to run with acceptable FPS. Also, I think you need to create an album (see FAQ) to post pictures.

Installation went fine, had to disable grass in order to avoid getting stuck at 90% loading. Turned forest off to get rid of the green sea texture.

Still all the rest of the textures are corrupted and this is what I get:

Tried all kind of combination of settings, tried new drivers but still no joy...

Try the 270. drivers (they are under the beta list in NVIDIA download section) but work very well.

Grass, shadows, roads OFF, trees OFF, Anti-epilepsy OFF

Run it first on a WINDOW, 640x resolution

bonne chance...

Just installed those drivers, started in windowed mode 640x480, still the same problem.

I've tried now with three different drivers, no difference between them.

Tried all the conf.ini tweaks that solved other's problems, didn't change a thing for me...

Guess I'll just wait the patch and see if it does it..

Thanks for your help ;)

I am sorry to hear this, very strange, with this GPU you should not be having such problems.

Anyway, patch is on the way 1-2 days only, and we all expect great thngs!

I saw your posts and realized that you had the same problem and didn't manage to solve it, good to know that going to Seven 64 got things right, for it's what I intend to do, I'm waiting for the patch to see if it gets solved, otherwise I'll go for Win7 64, anyway I'll have to do it sooner or later.

Only problem for me is to get all the drivers I need for my Mobo (ASUS P5K) for W7 64, as none are available on the ASUS site, so I'll have to find them separately for each component...

When using the Vista of the game runs well, no matter the use DX9 or DX10.
XP SP3 is hopelessly useless for the game

Hi all guys!

I am here because me too i get the same your problems about artefact texture on XP Sp3 .

I was a customer who had follow the 1C Company from first release of IL-2 Sturmovik.

This means that over the years I have bought:

-IL2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battle
-IL2 Sturmovik APE
-IL2 Sturmovik-PF
-IL2 Sturmovik Collection Edition
-IL2 1946.

and now IL2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover.

Anyway!

If I understand correctly what has been written in the FAQ Forum, and in this Thread, if a customer buy IL2 COD , later, will be forced to buy also OS to 64bit,better if it's Windows 7, because, exact words to FAQ:

...it does not work properly under DirectX-9c.

The COD system spec Operating system was:

Windows® 7 / Vista SP2 / Windows XP SP3
Processor: Pentium® Dual-Core 2.0GHz or Athlon™ X2 3800+ (Intel Core i5 2.66GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 2.6GHz recommended)
RAM: DirectX® 9.0c compliant, 512Mb Video Card (1GB DirectX® 10 recommended) – See supported List*
Video card: DirectX® 9.0c compliant, 512Mb Video Card (1GB DirectX® 10 recommended) – See supported List*
Direct X: DirectX® 9.0c or DirectX® 10 (included on disc)
DVD-Rom drive: 8X
Sound card: DirectX 9.0c compatible
Hard disk: 10GB
Peripherals: Mouse, keyboard (joystick with throttle and rudder control recommended)
Multiplay: Broadband connection with 128 kbps upstream or faster

*Supported cards at time of release:
ATI® 4850/4870/5830/5850/5770/5870/6870/6950/6970
NVidia®: 8800/9800/250/260/275/285/460/465/470/480

If it true ,for how many rounds of words the 1C Company will try to justificate it (like DirectX® 10 recommended), will be like to climb on the mirrors, because it is not acceptable just say:

.....does not work properly on Dx9c.

.........it's just a poor understatement !

It's was more honesty answer:

We apologize for our wrong specifications about OS 32bit, but at the moment, Il2 COD CAN'T run on XP Sp3.
We will try to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

It was perhaps asking too much for customers that have always followed and supported to you?...or (how you say in your language):

Мы не заботимся ..., это является вашим бизнесом, но так или иначе, thx для вашей финансовой поддержки?
We dont care...that's your business, but anyway, thx for your financial support?

In date I have not seen mentioned yet any fix about this huge bug, or the solution will be include an ISO file about Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate OEM in the next patch? ;)

We know that applications DX9 run whit the same perfomance about DX10 ,the last one improve the more effects and/or high details texture ,and very often, whit a cost of lose FPS for more calculation about GPU-CPU (of course!).

This was a generic explain about Direct X but it's work in this way. That's mind if you optimize the engine also for DX9 (how was written to the spec Operating system) IL2 COD will run very well whitout problems also in OS 32bit with minimal loss HD effects like so many others games!

Good Luck and Best Regards .

P.S

If i what just said doesn't prove true I will be happy to apologize to all you writing to great characters it, but otherwise.....you are still failing whit all users customers XP Sp3! ...and belivme,we are still many! :-D

my spec. hardware:

4 Gb Ram DDR3 Kingstone Cl_4
GPU gtx560Ti Gainward Golden Simple
