Today whilst looking at the news on the red button this programme about a company who finds people who can inherit others money when they haven't left a will was on bbc1 (as bbc channels are the only 1s with red button news) and this guy had lived through the blitz and it gave a breif overview of the blitz and a few films then I thought that dont look right so i rewound it to find instead of a flight of JU87s they included pictures of a flight of 2 man sturmoviks those wernt even available to the russians till 1942.
This thread can include in game stuff as well.

I was watching a program on the history channel about the P-51. It was talking about how the early models were used for air strikes. It then cut to a short clip of a flight of 3 Ju-87s dive bombing a target. You'd think the HISTORY channel would know better!

Best one for me was one of the Air Crash Ivestigation episodes. A Russian airliner was flying over Siberia to China. It was a new Airbus the airline had just got. The pilots children were onboard and he decided to let his son and daughter sit in the number 1 and 2 seats.
His son was playing with the yoke pretending to fly the plane and ended up actually controlling the plane, even though the pilot had put the autopilot one. The son got the plane into a huge climb then dive. After lots of effort the pilot managed to get into the seat but it was too late and the plane crashed in the Siberian wilderness killing all onboard.
Crash investigative found the kids bodies in the cockpit and figured they had been thrown into it by the crash. It was only later when they reviewed the cockpit voice recorders when they realised what had happened.
After a long investigation it turned out the Airbus autopilot could be deactivated by sharp turns on the yoke, something the pilots previous aircraft didn't do.
Sorry for the loss of life but never put kids in control of a passenger aircraft!

Ok nothing to do with il2 or planes but military movies are the best being a former infantry marine I love it when I see things like fully automatic m16's (not talking about Vietnam era a1's) patroling so close together 1 grenade could kill a whole squad rocket launchers are the best lol no sorry the don't go whoosh when you shoot them grenades don't throw people also the failed attempts at speaking in military terms is hilarious too many other things to list

Another thing that makes me laugh is films with the wrong weapons.
There was 1 cant remember name but the germans had sten guns.

LOL, Saving Private Ryan...
Yes the D-Day scene was cool, but they showed them catching the beach on the first wave, which never happened. In fact the first wave had 99% casualties. Still a great scene non the less.
But once Ven Diesel died the movie turned bad. Shooting through scopes of snipers, a fake battle for a bridge, stupid german soldiers, oh and my personal favorite, the T34 Panzer. Yes thats right, look at the tank near the end of themovie again and you will find a Panzer turret mounted right on top of a old T34 tank.
Oh, and how about that Danger Close airstrike by the P-51's were Hanks is shooting his Colt at the tank when it blows up like 50 feet away. HAHA no.

Another one I always laugh at is guns in films. They can rattle like their held together with sting, never need to be reloaded and make cocking noises for no apparent reason. For the good guys they can be pinpoint accurate while running, and the baddies can't hit anything beyond 10 feet. I love Hollywood...

The landing scenes in Saving Private Ryan were filmed at Curracloe beach very close to where I live in Ireland. It was a bit mad seeing all the WW11 kit scattered all over the place for filming. I was kinda hopeing a section could have been left once filming had been completed but everything was shipped out and the beach restored to its original glory.
Back to the game.

The private investors on the film Flyboys:
"The film was financed privately outside the standard Hollywood studio circuit by a group of filmmakers and investors, including producer Dean Devlin and pilot David Ellison, son of Oracle Corp. founder Larry Ellison; both spent more than $60 million of their own money to make and market "Flyboys"."
"The film opened at #4 the box office with a total box office gross of $17,770,614.[18] On December 27, 2006, Variety named it one of the 10 biggest box office flops of the year, citing an estimated shortfall of $90 million.[19]"
I admire their enthusiasm and desire to make a film on the subject but they must have been mad to agree to such a cliche ridden cheesy script. Real film makers could have made 3 real films about WW1 and WW2 combat with that money

The movie about the Red Baron...they kept calling the German Air force the Luftwaffe. I had to look it up on the computer just to confirm that in WWI, the German Air Force was not called the Luftwaffe. DAmn movie, giving me falsified facts.
It even says Luftwaffe in the discription on NETFLIX.

If we get it mixed up on here what hope does Hollywood have of getting it right. A Hollywood that made a film called U571 and got the nationality wrong of the sub that captured an enigma code machine :)

To Gilly and Joed70.. thanks for the support. I will send my email Joed70 but theres no need to reply as ill explain.
to begin, the strange thing is, i lost all my trophies as i said, started again, got the 1st trophy in training.. noise and trophy thing came up on screen. i went to check the trophies again, 92%, back to where i was. im confused. now i have an even bigger problem, after cleaning the lens and it working fine <played dead rising 2 for 6 hrs and IL2 for another 2 or so hours after that> the ps3 decided kick the bucket, yellow light of death, turn it on, a yellow light and 3 beeps then a flashing red light after it shuts down.
Anyways, ill still copy the airshow vid and post it online as i said i would. Its just a shame i wont be able to go back to IL2 for a very long time, months, ill miss the flying and the friends ive made through IL2. I did complete my goal of mastering the G-10, so i think. Its the best 109 dogfighter i believe, fast, accurate and powerful cannon, able to be thrown around like a piece of toast and end marmite or vegemite side up and in control. Give it a try :)
Thanks to all that have helped me in this game, i passed it on and recommended this forum to those who may have needed help. *violin begin played* I`ll read the forum regularly as im always interested what others have to say.

Sorry to hear you got the YLOD bez, but don't despair bro, it's possible for you to fix it yourself. It can be quite a challenge, but it is possible! Go browse YLOD - and the instructionvideos comes popping up. What you need is a cpl of screwdrivers, a heating-gun and some cooling-paste. And a bit of patience and good working-light... It's the CPU and the GPU that need a good work-over by the heating-gun and a new layer of paste. I've done it myself a cpl of times with good result. At least you get to keep all the good stuff on your disc. If you need further advise in the process just message me.

I reflowed my YLOD'd PS3 last week and it works... for now. Although, I had a 25min session on BoP and it returned temporarily. The main thing is you don't waste €160 sending it to SONY for a worthless 90 day warranty. Before you reflow you should probably try every other avenue just in case.
Some countries have Sale of Goods acts which stipulate electronics should last a certain number of years (5 in my country). You can try bringing it back to the store you got it from and see if you're lucky. Otherwise, look around your area and see if there are any third-party console repair places that do a proper lead solder reball.
I'm pretty PO'd that SONY and Microsoft were allowed sell a product that was essentially designed to fail.

thanks a lot :) from what ive read the ylod means i should throw it out the window but if that method will work, Mcq59, i will surely be interested. ill have to get a price on a heating gun and cooling paste, is a heating gun a soldering iron? i have one of those. im short of funds and have to spend money on the car before ps3, so i can get to work when it starts. i will get back to you on that in pvt msg after i talk to my old man about it, he did it for the 360 a while back and might have the stuff. its very dusty inside and havent looked further than the disc player itself.
Zatoichi Sanjuro.. by reflowed, do you mean the same process as Mcq59 mentioned? i doubt i could get it repaired under the sale of goods act, its fairly old and is a bit rusty inside. the rust has been there over a year, it got wet from a leaky ceiling, anyways, ill reply again when i know where i stand. just a note.. australian dollar is worth more than the US dollar, ps3 new there, is $300US.. here is $500au.

My heatgun looks like one of those gizmos people with hair uses to dry&style it with, but it develops a lot more heat. Some use it to strip paint of things. Main thing when using it to reflow your hardboard is to give the gpu and cpu a close and long treatment. It'll save you both yuor money and data. And make you a bit proud of yourself bro :-)

Yes, the heatgun method is called a reflow. It works 90% of the time and it's very easy to do, once you have the tools. The only problem is that it's a temporary fix that can last from months to weeks. But it allows you to backup your HD and deactivate your PSN account.
If you are going to do the reflow make sure you get the right screwdrivers for the job as it's very easy to strip the heads of the screws, particularly the blue HD screw.
You'll need a heatgun, a T10 Torx security bit to open the case (make sure it has the little hole in the middle)/or you can just try and force it out with a flathead screwdriver, which could get messy. A Philips #1/0 screwdriver for the rest and some thermal compound and solvent to clean the CPU/GPU and re-apply.
If you know someone with a heatgun it can cost you as little as €15 to do it.

keeping with your conversation, because ylod is an overheating issue: A nother good preventative measure is investing in a cooling stand for both ps3 and 360. We run them on the xbox at work and i run one on my ps3 at home due to its length of service (coming up to three years) both consoles have a heat exchange problems due to their plastic casing, heat will build on the area where the heatsink meets the plastic and the plastic will hold it there if no given access to proper airflow around the case. To extend the life of your ps3 i would heartily recommend it.
