I see some great historical match ideas on the forum. It got me thinking if we could come up with some film related ones. Not Battle Of Britain as that's too obvious.
I was thinking, as an example, a covert HE111 landing at Manston with 109 cover to pick up Churchill who has been kidnapped in The Eagle Has Landed. HE has to park up while the German paras get to the field. Spits get the alert at Hawkinge and have to destroy the HE before Churchill is loaded. Some kind of time limit for the HE on the deck.
Any other ideas?

Yeah I was thinking of Dambusters Bobby. Ardenne valley makes a nice low level run but not sure about a target down there. I am sure A Bridge Too Far is doable for some bridge bombing on Berlin map too

Cool idea!
I have one too, not exactly out of a film, but might as well be!
'Operation Südsee'
In the last days of the Third Reich, Hitler is bunkered in his his 'Führerbunker' in Berlin, while the whole city is surrounded. His only chance of escape is to hop on a Fieseler Storch as a passenger and somehow make it out of the city and to an U-Boot awaiting him to take him to an island in the South Pacific. Since the Luftwaffe is much too weak to guarantee his safety during the aerial escape, all they can do is divert attention away from the little plane that comes in to land on a Berlin street to take on its notorious passenger and take off again.
Before the operation can take place, NKVD (predecessor to the KGB) however intercepts a radio transmission and puts VVS on high alert. Can the VVS prevent Hitler's escape?
For this mission, I suggest to replace the Fieseler Storch with an I-153. The German side should find a location in the city where the Storch can land, ideally close to the historical location (this should previously be trained). The precise location has to remain secret for the VVS.
The VVS should already be airborne over the city. The Germans position their forces on the edges of the map at a location of their choice. They will notify via text chat when the Fieseler Storch is setting itself in motion toward the city (again this would be an intercepted radio call). The VVS doesn't know exactly when or where the Storch is trying to sneak in, they only know the objective. Stalin has made it clear that the pilots who would let Hitler slip from his grip would be sent on prolonged leave to Siberia.
Time of day and weather should be challenging. VVS should have the dominance in the air. No map, no HUD, no time limit should make this a really interesting mission.
The Germans succeed if the Storch can land undetected, pick up Hitler and sneak out of the city to reach the end of the map. VVS wins if they shoot down the Storch at any time before that.
Sorry this got long, got carried away.

How about the doolittle raid?
Instead of Mitchells though, use the A20's?
Instead of a carrier, use the furthest point possible in France, so that you have the biggest amount of ocean to fly over. Make the target an airfield somewhere, and make it a low level raid.
Have others land any plane with AI gunners, B17, HE111 etc at the target airfield, they are actinas the AAA :)
Could work....

Can you land in france? If you could, it could be interesting to see who can get there and make it back again with gaping holes in their wings and limping along with damaged aircraft. its a pity this doesn't have a multiplayer map maker as this would be briliant - so you dont have to worry about the "AAA" getting bored on the ground; but thats a different story.
Maybe there are some people who wouldn't mind taking turns to fly there and back, swapping with the "AAA" at each end of the match. Might do some channel crossings tonight to see if I can work out if there is an airfeild that we can reach but getting back may be a bit tricky?

yeah you can land in france! just dont go straight over or you get bounced back into "battlefield". head up towards belgium and you will see the cliffs. actually nice fields for landing. we did this as a beach party ( free flight ) and had a ball. its really too bad we dont have anything to mimic a mossie. the 633 squadron movie would be awesome to try.

Some great ideas here. It makes me wish we had one of those Machinma things for the game to edit a replay into a short film, like those ones the PC guys have done for the original IL

633 Squadron would be great!!
But sadly we dont have the wooden wonder (mossie) or a fjord to fly down, Or the AAA batteries to shoot us down.
Closest thing would be...
A20/110
Ardennes map.
Dont see this one working :( heartbreaking.
IF pilots have alot of time on their hands then they could perhaps make something of an RPG out of it?
For example (this is just quickly off the top of my head)...
Pick the mission type -
Bomb/fighter sweep/ground attack
lets go with the following -
Fighter sweep with 6 players. This will be a long game!! (in respect to normal games)
4 take allies, they pick the same plane for the fighter sweep. Lets go with a
P-51D.
The 4 allied planes land at manston and form up. Mean while 2 players take the luftwaffe side of things and just cruise around france somewhere doing as they please.
The 4 allies take off together, and stay in formation. They need to make the target a distant one and with the maps being smaller than the planes have fuel for i propose the following -
Take off from Manston, fly to France, then turn around and fly back towards UK, this will act as France and the target for the sweep, the point being somewhere in the far south east as the area of the sweep. This then means you have the chance to fly together in formation long enough and for a fairly realistic amount of time to "get to your target area" and also encourages you to keep an eye on WEP etc. Tiredness and boredom may kick in while waiting to get to your target, but beware, the Luftwaffe are out their also and waiting for you.
The Lufwaffe meanwhile will be free flying around waiting to spot the allies.
Thats just a rough idea to give you the basics of what i mean, im prob just making it sound more complicated than it is. But you get the idea right?
Thoughts?

My contributión: Operation Valkyrie II
Valkyrie II. After the failure of Stauffenberg, a few conspirators who escaped the Gestapo prepared an open attack on all or nothing. A group of patriots of the Luftwaffe have volunteered to kill Hitler while his He-111 flight from Wolfsschanze to Berlin. The conspirators attack the aircraft with a squadron of Bf-109G 6, and a few captured Yak-1, with the hope that in the confusion of the attack, attributed to the Soviet attack.
The He-111 is scorted by a group of Bf-109 K4 Squadron
Simulator
Capture Airfield (Berlin) - Time Unilimited
Afternoon Clear
Limited Ammo and Fuel
No map, one life only
If He-111 landing on Berlin, Germans Nazi win.

That is a cool scenario Hicks.
I had an idea to re-enact the final attack on Yamato in strike mode to get some cool video &/or photos.
10 or more players on Scicily coast level. All players except 1 pick team A to attack the battleship off the coast and pick fighters capable of carrying bomb(s) or Stukas. Single player on team B picks anything they like and do the photography. Team A fly en masse over and begin peppering the battleship. I guess if it was set to 20 mins and 300 points and all players pick a fighter with weak bombs it would be a race against time to sink it

Wait a year or so and we will be able to do this more realistically in the sequel

I just want to see 15 aircraft dive on that battleship and see the impact of 30+ bombs at or near the same time. Water columns alone would make it worthy of a photo

I see what you are aiming at here dk. It would be a blast if it worked. The tricky part would be the timing of the drop and to get the formation right. I would love to take part.

If all team A picked a Stuka we would be looking at 45 bomb hits. We could pick high level bomber for lots more bomb hits (480 by my maths!!) but it would be nicer with dive bombers and fighters and more tightly clustered
