Hey there Buggins.
A sequel would be great.
On what basis do you assume an announcement ?

I think there will be one.
Wouldn't like to guess when though..oh, go on then, 3rd Quarter of this year maybe?

Suppose it depends on what they are doing with Apache Air Assault (not a lot by the look of things).

They already have a fantastic game engine that's been updated with even more content so, hopefully, they can get a publisher for the sequel. I think Anton, or one of the devs, said that it might have a Pacific campaign but it will definitely be Second World War based.

Aside from the Pacific air battles, are there any other Second World War air battles people would like to see in a sequel that hasn't already been covered in BoP?

Sooner or later they'll have the sequel ready for takeoff. I'll be dam...

Theres a lot of stuff to cover yet. The 617 sqd. and the dambuster-raid. The mosquitoraid against the Tirpitz...

that would be great but i am not holding my breath for anytime soon. look how long its taking for storm of war. maybe once that is released we may see something. we will probably get games from other companies for awhile.

I know it's unlikely to happen but I'd love to have an Axis campaign. Playing something like Operation Bodenplatte from both sides would be awesome.

The team are probably still on a break after A:AA.

Malta would be good, along with the (costly) RAF fighter sweeps of France '41-'42. I would love to see some v1/2 hunting too.. at night so you have to look for the flames.

EDIT: Oh yeah, B-17 escorts over Germany as well.

I doubt we'll be seeing a sequel at all this year. The devs havn't answered anyone on yuplay in months.
& IF it does come out it'll probaly be like apache assault, rushed out for activision & not available to NZ players like me.(kinda selfish yea i know)
Anyone heard from anton lately?
Anyone from 1C care to share any information??

Hey Buggins it's been a long time.

I hope there is a sequel. I have asked but have been told "we havent' heard anything".

I'm yet to play the original despite owning the disc for 12 months, (another story altogether) but if they do the pacific of europe please include the P-38 for the love of god. Sorry I'm obsessed with that aircraft lol.

I'd like to see a mission based on Operation Vengeance taking Isoroku Yamamoto out. Some solid formation flying skimming the ocean, then taking the mastermind down in his Betty followed by battles with the retaliating/escorting zero's with very limited fuel to get back home with would be nice imho.

Hi mate, I'm a Kiwi too, from Christchurch, I imported Apache for around 70 NZD, but I see EB Games NZ has it listed for a March release here, so maybe just hold off till then.
i
@trk29, just out of interest, who did you ask about the sequel? I'm hoping the silence from Anton and co means they're hard at work on a sequel, if you hear anything let us know mate!

We will have to play some Apache together, did you get it for ps3?

I asked admin of 1C so unless they know something now or if they were not allowed to say I don't know for sure. I asked several months ago.

Unfortunatly I think Apache did rather poorly in sales (understatement). Hopefully this won't affect any WWII based sequel to BoP.

There is supposed to be a sequel to WOP for sure. Given that Gaigin has the entire engine for IL2 it is likely that one of the IL2 expansions i.e. 'Pacific Fighters' would be the natural choice for a similar rework using Gaigins graphics engine. I really hope so but we have to wait and see. Microsofts CFS2 went that route and was very succesful but it had little or no competition. There are a lot of excellent ac both Japanese and Allies in the Pacific theatre and many of the campaigns are carrier based which is great fun. Not sure you could have a 'Capture the Carrier' option in MP though.............

We have to wait and see but why not post on the BOP YuPlay forum and at least let Gaigin know that BOP is still a firm favourite and there is a market for a console sequel.

I do hope there is a sequel as id pay money just to fly the N1k shiden, J7W shinden and the corsair round wake or pearl. I love the pacific theater.
It wouldn't be capture the carrier it would be sink the carrier.

i really hope there is a sequal to bop :) plainly for the reasons that have been mentioned, and hopfully with many of the aspects that make it the way it is in the first place.

I would kill for a sequel to BOP, but I would just as gladly take a major update to BOP.
I have trolled the makers and publishers sites and have found nothing as of yet.
Though I do remember a post on yuplay that hinted at a sequel.

let me find that post...

We are very willing to make sequel (and are doing some development already, incorporating new features to Wings of Prey).
We hope, we'll sign deal with some publisher (developers can't release X360 game themselves, without publisher, even on XB Live) - the Birds of Prey was successful, probably not the best title of all times, but meets expectations.
We do not have publishing deal signed yet.

Also I would love to see the P-38, P-40, P-39, F6F HellCat, A6M Zero, D3A1 Val and the Ju 88,

Both Anton (http://forum.yuplay.com/index.php?showtopic=3353) and Todace (http://forum.yuplay.com/index.php?showtopic=3346) have made posts in the last few days again referencing an upcoming sequel. :-P

We should have word within weeks one way or the other.

EDIT: Another update from Anton:

Although this is not announce, we would like to say that we are working on sequel of the game (new flight sim in World War II era).
We will incorporate mostly anticipated features, and take into consideration feedback from community about Wings of Prey - and, of course, we'll make a lot of new ideas.
Any official information, screenshots, demo-versions, etc will be released after official announce of the game - which, as we hope, should happen rather soon.
We have learned our lessons from working with other publishers, and this time we'll make sure that we'll be able to support community after release of the game - with DLCs or updates on all platforms.
Although we are going to release update for Wings of Prey, we also will support our loyal customers, and so we'll make a good bonus for them in upcoming sequel.
Stay tuned! (emphasis added)

There was the possibility that the sequel could have be Apache 2, so I'm glad that's out of the way. Now all we need is confirmation of a console version.

Correct, but remember they wrote this on the yuplay forum which is frequented by WOP customers. However if you read a bit closer into what he wrote, he said 'updates on all platforms.'.

WOP only exists on the PC. What other platforms could he have meant?

;)

Thank you I didn't catch that. One thing that worries me a little is when he said that and this time we'll make sure that we'll be able to support community after release of the game - with DLCs or updates on all platforms.

I thought the only way that they could gaurantee that dlc and updates would get out for sure is if they could do it themselves, and the only way that they can do that is if they publish it it like they did with WOP and it being PC they can bypass PSN and XBL, so I don't see how they can do that without a publisher.

I do miss Anton coming in here and talking to us, I wish at somepoint he could come back.

The way I see it is this: Publishing contracts are not standard contracts you download from the internet and sign - they are worked out. Since there are quite a number of publishers out there who are licensed on the PS3 and XBox platforms, it seems only a matter of finding a publisher who will accept Gaijin's terms on that issue. The contracts Gaijin signed before that didn't give them the right to publish themselves even if the publisher would not want to commit, and they learned their lesson. That's how I see it.

So, while it's still early days, I'd say 'Don't worry, be Happy'.

:)

i think its something like Mac said. they got their butts seriously chewed on the apache yuplay forum. activision is telling people to contact them for the patch when its is up top activision to release it. so some of the players there are mad as wet hens. and that makes anton and the company look bad. i believe they will put some sort of proviso in future contracts guaranteeing a fix....by who and how...who knows.
