I have a PS3 from the US. If it happens to me, no worries. I never use banks, cards, or online money.

if you have any credit or bank card info saved on your system or with PS/Xbox...delete or cancel it if you can. pay as you go...and resubmit each time as a 1 time only payment. its a PITA but trying to recoup lost funds after the fact is a bigger one. i unplug my computer and xbox from the internet when not in use. they ( computers ) can be turned on remotely and browsed...not sure about game systems but would imagine so. dont merely rely on your spyware or firewall...no matter how good you think it is. if you do get dinged you will have to file a claim through the card company not PS/Xbox. you will EVENTUALLY get your money back....but it may take up to or over 6 months and a lot of phone calls. i had $100 sniped from a paypal account and it was a huge headache to get corrected. i made a claim, THEY closed the account....but the late fees and interest kept accruing ...ended up being over $250 before it was all over. no, the right and left hand do not talk...and you will get letters/calls threatening collections if not paid. so better off nipping it in the bud in the first place than trying to chase it down later.

Tell your co worker to change his password every day for about a week before the hacker starts to steal all of his savings.

If you use internet money, keep just a small amount in your account. Bobby your right, computers can be used even when off. I tried it as a experiment on my own home computer using my laptop.

password change should go without saying but i guess some people might not think of it. a change of password on a regular basis where personal and card info is stored keeps you from getting probed too easily.

Mostly, these hacked PS3s are usually found playing Call of Duty games.

As for the guy's money being stolen, are you sure the guy might have given his account details to the would be hacker?

no, i am positive of that! he's a pretty strict and private person about everything. after a couple calls PS gave him his money back. more info: the hacker DIDNT have his card info just access to his account. so all they could do is get PS stuff. PS said they would ban that person(s) forever ( yeah ok ) and if he wanted to press legal action he would have to talk to a law enforcement agency and persue it from that angle. They (playstation ) can not give out that info without legal action. onder why they dont go after people like that themselves?

If your still worried about your card then you can use PSN cards (http://www.zavvi.com/elysium.search?searchFilters=&search=psn) don't forget!
