View Full Version : Tired Of BoP

I was playing tonight and finally got tired of the game.
It was a struggle to put the disk in and a relief to replace it with another game which I never thought would happen.
Shooting an IL10 in realistic is as much fun as a budget deficit cut anouncement

The lack of support and updates from the devs also shorten the longevity of the game :(
But you will miss bop sky after a while :)

I'm not bored of the game, that is still one of the best games. Sadly I'm bored of the complete 'I have no talent' muppets who gatecrash perfectly good DF and TBs with overboosted, god cannoned IL10's.
I'm playing the red dead undead nightmares at the minute and whilst that has more than it's fair share of muppets, everyone can easily 'kick' them should they get on everyones tits.
You guys need a Misses to kick you outta there once in a while, works for me.

imust admit when im not with the "mrs" i struggle to finds motivation to play this game due to losing all my save data, so the thought of having to unlock everything again just puts me off, folowed the the lack f a 360 patch which would of made ulocking things much much easier.
Will never ger rid of the game thugh because now and again i do have that urge to play :D

Best way to avoid unwanted gatecrashers like this is to create a chat room before you open a game, where you invite only the people you want in the game. Once you have agreed on who wants to play and which game, you host a game for exactly that number of people, who will know and join as soon as the game appears. Room full, end of trouble.
I know it's a bit more complicated than just hosting and seeing who comes, but if the gatecrashers bother you that much it's a way out...

We normally have a vid chat before we go on and then as you say set up a specific- sadly doesn't stop the gatecrashers who for whatever reason are unable to hear what your trying to tell them and then cruise around in their airborne battleship auto gunning everything.

I regularly fly with the same bunch of fellow pilots(mainly sim) & we set up different scenarios such as Stukas on a mission to bomb the ships off the coast at Dover, using Hurricanes to defend, great action!:-P
Played a new set up thought up by Bobbysocks the other night (see posting) which worked a treat.
Endless dogfights can become much of a muchness after awhile but if you fly with like minded pilots there is still so much explore.

For me the game stand alone as the #1.
Alongside stands the guys with integrity and skills to go in there and create Moments of beauty.
I will as long as I have one good eye that still can spot an enemy, log on and try to fly as a descent gamer.
I think you can make and create a magnitude of engaging missions with this game for years. It all depends on having an attitude towards having a good time playing with the chaps, in planes you love to see manouver around the skies. It is bunch of great gauys&friends who still want to master the planes and tacticks out there!

Spot on McQ. After spending 20 tedious minutes taking fire from the spit roast (IL10, it gives out from both ends) I went into a 1v1 Spitfire arcade DF with Woothike.
10 minutes of aerobatics with no kills. We both knew when we had kill shots lined up but didn't see the need to pull the trigger. I may just stick to arcade in future.

Yeah... and u may fly just one plane for a decade too, but I would recomend you to learn how to master a cpl. of more strategies and tacticks than the tailgunners on IL's to get a good time with the guys out there.
And yeah... It is kind of depressing to see IL's and bombers in random dogfights and teambattles. I can feel my inner misanthrop awaken... He's an angry f*#k and a mean bastard!

Don't think i'll ever tire of BoP, but cheesemasters in il10's i can only take about one game with those smug gits. I have taken to setting games at 1942 and earlier to cut down on a tailgunners choice of aircraft.

i am not a big time gamer. a few games have caught my interest over the years....actually pirates of the carribean, the first one. played it hours on end. as you could play it which ever way you liked...follow the story line or capture ships..amass wealth...trade between islands...lay siege to ports and capture island once you have a large enough fleet and army. i have just as big a soft spot for frigates and sloops as i do winged ac. i have tried a couple air combat games but always lost interest before getting halfway through because they just didnt have anything that thrilled me ( personally). saw the cover of BoP on the shelf in a store and decided "why the hell not"...it truely was my last straw. i did no research...didnt see any adds...a pure impulse buy and shot in the dark. i love this game. i dont get on every night but try to get on a couple times a week...and try to get on with the boys from the uk whenever i can. i wish the game had come out a few years earlier...or...my father had lived a few years longer. i would have bought an xbox and copy of BoP for him. my wife enen made the comment while watching me play "i think your dad would have got a kick out of this game." he was not a feable old man even up til the end and had actually messed with a few boring PC flight sims. other than the fact he would have been truely P!$$ed at how the 51s fly here...you probably would have seen him on more than me...and probably way harder to beat than me...lol. i got a long time before i hang up this game and as long as i can fine one good friend to take to the skies with i will DF ( and get my @$$ kicked )...and if i have to take the slies alone....i WILL find dks freaking sheep!

Wow I have a Screen shot of this match that I was going to post to the fourm but for a very differnt reason It was a Sim Team Battle with 13 or more players on a Monday nite which I thought was awsome as proof that IL2 BOP is alive and well.
To make long story short our host switched to Strike match with Bombers on side fighters on other and we had some great matches I thought . yes the Bombers won .In one match I think we faced at least 3 b17's plus a couple of blenhiems etc but we got the whole 20 min hop in and I remeber checking score at the end and everyone had at least 3 kills . To me that is a great match .
Strikes with bombers vs fighters in Sim or realistic is a great way to over come some of the issues mentioned above.

+2 for the snarky englishmen. IL-10 and it's zombie rear gunner break the game play in DF and TB. I was in a TB two nights ago where all but one on the opposing side where flying IL's. I was by far the most frustrating match I have ever played. What fun is it to fly in a straight line and snipe people with your mouse? IL-10 would be more suitable as weapon unlock in a game like resident evil where you can acquire weapons that insurmountably stack the odds in your favor.

Best tactic to use against an IL2M/IL10 whore?
Ignore it. If everyone ignores them they'll get bored and fly a fighter next time.
Sometimes for a challenge I will take heavy hitter (FW190F with its extra armour is a good choice) and play hide in the gunners blindspot. If you get noticed by the auto gunner though you know the player will take over control and bullet spam you to death so youv'e got to be real carefull to be able to get close enough to get a quick kill on that beast.

I agree best remedy is to ignore them but they have a nasty habit of switching to front seat and come gunning you down. That's why they are so cheesy. Big bombers I don't mind but those ILs can sneak up and shoot you down.
They also take stupid levels of punishment, more than a B17. Trying to get a belly shot in their blind spot in realistic or sim is a chore. I don't have as much time on the game as I used to so don't want to spend what little I do dancing with cheesemeisters more concerned with their standing on a broken leader board than in engaging in a true dogfight

Agree.
I tend to ignore players that pick a bomber in a dogfight game. I simply point my nose to the closest fighter and engage with him. Or i hunt the best skilled enemy pilot in the sky.
Most of the time, players that pick bombers are newbie or generally not very skilled pilots that can't even get on my six fling an IL, so their only chance to score a kill is to rear gun me. If i have to, i can deal easily with any kind of bomber player just by flying a 3 cannon fighter... ( BF109k4 for example ) and boom zooming on them at 600 Km/h or more, aiming at the engine. That would be very effective even against auto gunners.

Thats what happens when you start shooting at a plane that has already had its pilot killed by someone else and the dead player is waiting for the respawn counter to go down. Especialy If the spawn is 15 seconds. Thats 15 seconds for you to see a perfectly undamaged b17 with gunners firing, shoot at it only to see it magicly disapear when the player respawns. Its anoying I know, its happened to me numerous times, but its not a bug.

i think late night US xbox BoP should be renamed "High School Musical"! over the past several weeks it has digressed into nothing but adolesent ranting and name calling. trash talk flies more than the aircraft...oh and ya know, so and so, has a lag swtich...that's why he wins. blah, blah, blah. holy crap, i play this game to get away from that kind of $#!T. there is more drama than a freaking soap opera. i am not getting tired of the game...hell i got my A:AA game the other day and havent even taken it out of the wrapper! what i am getting is disgusted...and with the players. if they cant grow the "F" up...guess i am just going to have to unplug the headset and mic and pop in the earphones on the ipod.
I'd have to agree with you on that one Bobby. I tried to play a game the other nite and whooly moooly. Some people just making noise for the sheer point of making noise. Usually, if it carries on too much, I mute the players that are creating the mess. Although, it gets sorta funny if they call my name and I can't hear 'em hehehe...
Hopefully I can get on in a few hours today and fly. Tried to get on last nite but it wasn't until late (around 11:00pm pacific). Saw you were flyin but just missed ya.

Those kinds of kids and their attitudes have driven me away from BoP too. "He shot me down! He must be cheating!!" .etc
I'm just glad I have the clear skies of WoP to keep my BoP-itch at bay. :P

The Me163 in sim has the same bug as the spitfire and fw190 when it gets to 30 mph it tips up, but if the wings arn't totaly level you will have a chance of surviving in that crazy 180 degree nose spin that occurs.

its black ops that has sapped most of the xbox players i usually see. i am actually surprised i only see 1 or 2 people playing A:AA.

same on my ps3 list
Mine too. Everyone on my F/L are either on Black Ops, or are my clan mates playing SOCOM: Confrontation.
Just one is on Apache: Air Assault & Other games.

I am one the ones currently lost A:AA but I definitely don't see it holding my attention. BOP is still my favorite on Ps3 and I've played it almost exclusively since release, I see A:AA more as a short distraction to get a little variation.
I really enjoy sim mode in BOP (nothing else comes close in my experience except maybe hard core mode in cod 4). The lack of competitive multiplayer and an option or mode (sim) to turn off all the red arrows in A:AA will keep it from being a replacement for BOP (Plus I just like WWII era aircraft more). Once I've played through all the missions I don't see much reason to stick with it. Hopefully it will be the same with the rest of the BOP'rs.
I do appreciate A:AA for what it is and wanted to support Gaijin in the hope that they will continue to turn out games like these. Especially a sequel to BOP.

thx for your honest opinion, i have had mirgirvin say the same. i have never been a big fan of chopers and through this very fine console game it has made me branch out to pc flying aswell. but the one thing that will still make me even considering turning on the ps3 is this game and its community. hope to see you in the skies soon cep.
