Did anyone watch the documentary this evening on BBC one with Ewen Mcgregor and his brother Colin. Best doc I have seen in a long time. Good to see the BBC putting such a great tribute out in prime time. It will be up on Iplayer for UK members, for all else I will keep an eye on YouTube to get some links.

no i missed it aswell :(
an extract from the Gaurdian -
Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. (Prolonged cheers.) All hearts go out to the fighter pilots, whose brilliant actions we see with our own eyes day after day but we must never forget that all the time, night after night, month after month, our bomber squadrons travel far into Germany, find their targets in the darkness by the highest navigational skill, aims their attacks, often under the heaviest fire, often at serious loss, with deliberate, careful precision, and inflict shattering blows upon the whole of the technical and war-making structure of the Nazi power. (Cheers.)

Yes I saw those Brigg. They also had the commemorative service this lunchtime on BBC1.
Here is the Iplayer link for anyone who can access it.

I think this was Colins idea as he was a RAF pilot. You can see how much it means to him once he lands that Spit successfully

Cracking piece of TV for a change. Laughed when colin had his 'wobble' on landing in the spit. I thought they were a good choice as both had the look of 5 year olds when near aircraft or talking to veterans.

Sounds excellent. Going to catch this on iPlayer later.
Would also recommend 'First Light'. The lead actor is a bit wooden, but it was more than watchable.
Stumbled across the book in my local library a few months back and it's a phenomenal read. Seek it out.
Edit: If you can't access BBC iPlayer, I notice 'First Light' is available at a certain Bay frequented by Pirates. Just an FYI, me hearties.

Here is Ewen doing his Spitfire flight with another Spit and a Hurri. As Gilly said they are like kids in a sweet shop:

It was good. Definitely worth checking out on the iplayer if you missed it.
One of the topics they brought up was the 109-E being superior to the Spitfire/Hurricane of the time.

Both programmes were superb. The documentary last night comparing the Spit and the 109e was interesting too. The size of those 109 cannon rounds v the Spit's 'pea shooter'. - Incredible.
If available on BBC IPlayer, then watch 'Spitfire Women' shown last Monday evening. The documentary includes interviews with the women pilots who flew over 150 different types of WW2 ac with no training. They were just given a flight manual as they got into the cockpit of the ac to be delivered - Bombers, Fighters, the whole caveat. No radio, no ammo and flew in weather conditions that grounded the RAF and yet they succesfully flew by instruments and managed to navigate to their destination. Some amazing stories and well worth watching. They were damned good pilots for sure........
