If you could include one more aircraft into this game (from existing Nations - British, American, Soviet, German, Italian), what would it be?

As I write this, I cannot think of just one..... Really struggling!

Ok so we cant include a better version of the Hurricane or a different version off the Shitfire, because they are already in the game, so it has to be a whole new aircraft.....

hmmm.....

De Havilland Mosquito or the Avro Lancaster.

For free flight and formation flying etc i would like the Avro Lancaster, for missions then the Mossie :D

Sorry Foz, I should have made it clearer, but yeah, a different mark of the same plane would be ok too.

I too thought of the Mossie, and then the Pe-2. But I also have a soft spot for the Westland Whirlwind.......... Add to the mix a couple of 250 or 500kg bombs, and its a mean early war tank buster!

Ah ok, then im given a dilema :( because i love the Hurricane, and would love another Mk in their, armed with 4 hispano cannons :D but then again, i would love to have the 2 or 4 merlins of the Mossie or Lanc!!

So come on folks, ONE plane. I dont think Winny, the Corsair got much flying time in the European Theatre.

The reason I labelled this as a 'fantasy' thread is because I cannot foresee any more dlc for this (well not on XBL anyways).

My choice is a Westland Whirlwind

The corsair was used in europe, more than alot of people think ;) they were used a fighter cover by the FAA (I think) when they attacked the tirpiz.

They also struggled with carrier landings, much like the US!! but perfected it by coming into land from the left and always keping the carrier in sight... or something along those lines. I know what i mean, i jus tcant put it into words haha. They also clipped the wings didnt they, because their wasnt enough room in the smaller RN carriers? or was that just BS i heard?

I'd have to go with the B-24.

I'd probably choose not one of my favourite aircraft but instead somthing that is more different to the other planes. I wouldn't choose a bomber either as they are really of little use online. I think i'd go for a P-39 with cockpit and selectable airforce, please :) .
That gives you another plane useable in a 1941 limited game, a nose wheeled prop fighter that could actualy be usefull in a CTA game (really easy taxiing into a hiding position and the ability to kill other landed planes while taxiing lol)

1 fw190 and 2 bf109g was shoot down by the hellcats,2 hellcats was shoot down by germans pilots
during the invasion of south of france in august 1944 the us navy pilots of vf74 (f6f hellcat) shoot down 2 germans bombers

Yeah, gotta go with Corsair or Hellcat. Though I love Grumman Ironworks products, I'd lean a little more towards Corsair in this case. Once upon a time, back in the DOS days I had quite the career as a Navy Corsair pilot in Aces of the Pacific, so I guess I'm a little partial to that particular crate.

If neither of those is "European Theater" enough, then P-40 is my next choice.

All very hypothetical, of course.

B.I Special was the one, like was said, that carried the bouncing bomb, and also the worlds largest dumb, conventional (as in non nuclear) bomb. i think 22000lbs or something.

It was used very late in the war, and alot of the Lancs that carried it sported day camo undersides - gotta love total air supremacy (Goering would be very jelous!)

The B.I and B.III are quite similar, except the B.III had H2S radar dome underneath (as an obvious visible difference).

Hmm...They could have added a MiG-3 for the hell of it, and could have also (rather than Korsun) put Leningrad in place for a map. Maybe a Fokker DXXI because I think they look cool and are interesting planes. They could have added at least some French fighers like the MS402 and D.520... under estimated fighters I tell ya! :D

For all the nations represented in BoP, here's one (or two) planes they could have added.

Italy: Fiat CR.42 or Fiat G.50

Germany: Ju-88 or Do-17

US: F4F Wildcat or P-38 (P-38s played more of a roll in Italy, than a P-51 did.)

UK: P-40 or Gloster Gladiator (It's really surprising for a WW2 Airplane game, to not have added MALTA which was nothing but an aerial combat zone.)

Russia: They could have added the LaGG-3 into BoP instead of the useless Po-2.

Again, a good choice, this is what i would choose

US: F4F Wildcat or P-38 (P-38s played more of a roll in Italy, than a P-51 did.)
I'd take the Corsair for this prob, use it as an escort fighter agianst an attack on the Tirpitz. The P38 is a good choice to. Would like Mitchell bomber though.

UK: P-40 or Gloster Gladiator (It's really surprising for a WW2 Airplane game, to not have added MALTA which was nothing but an aerial combat zone.)
A Hurricane with a Merlin sounding in game engine like the P51 and Spitfires have!! Or a Mossie or Lanc.

Not to fussed for these ;) haha.

Germany: Ju-88 or Do-17
- Both please!

US: F4F Wildcat or P-38 (P-38s played more of a roll in Italy, than a P-51 did.)
- P-38, as its the only US 8th AF escort fighter not in the game

UK: P-40 or Gloster Gladiator (It's really surprising for a WW2 Airplane game, to not have added MALTA which was nothing but an aerial combat zone.)
- P40 with shark nose would look cool. But I would like to see either a PR.XIX Spit, or equivalent Mossie for a Photo Recon mission. Could use the bomb aiming reticule for target aquisition, with no guns, would be a great mission.......

Russia: They could have added the LaGG-3 into BoP instead of the useless Po-2.
- Pe-2 would be mint!

Yeah, a Fiat G.55 would be okay, but they weren't around during Malta. Fiat G.50s and CR.42s were though. And that's why they should have added Malta, because it was more of a air battle than Sicily or the Italian mainland ever was.

If we are going into historical accuracy, then they shouldve used a Mk.I Spitfire, not a cannon armed Mk.II for some of the BoB missions. They did have a few cannon armed Mk.II's, but out of the 900 odd Mk.II's produced, only around 170 were cannon armed. And the camo is wrong for them, it shouldve been brown/green top sides, not green/gray. I know why they used one though, just to keep it up with the 109E in the armament stakes.

It wasnt for armament sake that they used the MkII, a prime example of this is the Hawker Hurricane, its armed with the .303's and if you've used it then you'll know how much damage it can do. So the MkI Spitfire would be similar (minus 2 guns).

This issue was addressed soon after the demo for IL2 was released, I do believe Anton stated that the reason they didnt use the MkI was because of resources etc. They could afford it.

Seemed an odd reason at the time. Still does. The topic for it is here on the forum somewhere.

Yeah, like Foz said, it's been said and noted before. (Not sure you want to dig through all the stuff, but there's been plenty of things said about that and other planes.)

I just figured, that in a flight game like Il-2, you'd think to focus on the major air combat campaigns like Malta. (Plus, I love flying CR.42s and Fiats in '46. They're so fast and maneuverable.)

yes thats the one :) just came accross it when i was making my list

Lavochkin La-11 (Fang)

La-134 - Prototype Designation; based on the Lavochkin La-9.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
La-134D - Second Prototype Designation; increased fuel and range via improved fuel tank space and underwing fuel tanks.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
La-11 - Base Production Fighter Designation

also you could add

Tupolev SB-2 and the Sukhoi Su-2 bombers :)

I would like the Swordfish torpedo bomber in there to add a bit of attacking variety when going on Strike against ships. Not much use if you are attacking ground targets though, although I am sure a torpedo dropped on a bunker would make quite a hole!

Would be nice to have the La-9 or La-11, but both unfortunately weren't built until 1946 and 1947. Besides, they were both inferior in Vertical and Horizontal flight compared to the greatest Soviet prop fighter... the Yak-3!!! :D

Well, if it were a torpedo bomber being put into the game, I have 3 suggestions....
1. TorBeau
2. Sparviero
3. Fiat G.55 Silurante

But I would say the best Coastal Command plane would be a rocket/bombed up solid nosed Mossie.

I would love to see a night fighter mission, with a dedicated night fighter put into the game.

I think a big ass Russian Tupolev TB-3 Heavy Long-Range Bomber would have been cool. I love those on '46. Whenever there used to be a bombing mission with friends and random people, I'd always get my squadron of TB-3 with I-16s on the wings. Take off, bomb the hell out of wherever and then dogfight our way back. (The I-16s, the TB-3's would have them as cover.)

It was pretty sweet, and I think we had more success with it than the Russians actually did.

hmmmmm could be as bad as a 109 G6 for combustability lol

"The resulting design was a technical innovation resulting in a four engine creation of a seemingly twin-engine bomber and reduced air resistance as a byproduct. The initial DB 606 engines, themselves a derivative of the DB 601 types, proved unreliable and prone to fires earning the aircraft several telltale nicknames like "the Torch" and "Lighter".

But if that trait were to be carried out into a game (random engine fires), then they should put in the negative g problem of the early merlin engined machines! That would make dog fighting a bit more interesting!

I never push anyway, rolling and pulling is quicker. That and the problem was fixed on the engines of the Mark2 spits that are in the game.

"By 1941 Miss Tilly Shilling in Farnborough had developed a partial cure for the problem. A diaphragm across the float chambers with a calibrated hole (the infamous "Miss Shilling's orifice"!) allowed negative 'g' manouvres, and was fitted as standard from March 1941. Sustained zero 'g' manouvres were not sorted out until somewhat later."
