Is there a certain range where the enemy need to be in order for them to be effected by the Target spell? Sometimes, I feel either the spell isn't working properly or the units is too far out to be effected by the spell and end up wasting 1 round casting the spell.

Also, will Target spell effect the Feared units? For instance, I have peasant and demon in my army, I cast Fear on enemy unit, archer and then cast Target on demon, will the archer skip its round because it cannot attacked higher level unit because of Fear or will it choose to attach peasant instead??

Units will attack targeted units IF THEY CAN. Fear will prevent that. Being outside of movement range will prevent that. Being unable to use a ranged attack because you are at melee with someone will prevent that.

Remember all these points:

1) Target only effects levels 2,3,4 creatures (depending on spell level)
2) Target only lasts 1,2,3 turns. That means casting a level 1 version on a creature, and then immediately moving it, will also immediately end the buff.
3) Only effects people that could make attacks against the target. As if their Player just clicked on the unit to attack it.

If you 'wait' with a unit, it will not tick down the durations on its buffs, meaning you can extend the duration of a target spell by having the unit it is on 'wait' until the end of the turn. Units will not use special abilities on the targeted unit if they can make a basic melee or ranged attack (Hyena's cannot use their auto crit ability).

I use the spell a lot :). Get to know the ins and outs of it.

One last note - Target only works if they can attack with their regular attack. This means that, for example, casting Target on some bowmen won't prevent enemy shamans from targeting your archmages with their axe ability.

Out of curiosity - suppose you cast Target (say, on some Trolls). Then you move black dragons up right next to enemy bowmen. If the bowmen follow standard procedure, they'll take one step away from your dragons, then turn and shoot... who do they shoot at in this case?

they shoot the targetted trolls. they'll even go so far as to move into an oil mist to shoot the target. Unless the black dragons have cornered them, making them unable to get away from the dragons to shoot...
