WOW, I'm proud that my last thread produce such positive responses as were the stories of people recalling their childhoods through aircraft models. Like I promise I will rebuild Hurricane I and you will get to see every single step of the reconstruction through pictures. Luftwaffe_Rommel envites everyone to keep posting their models in the other gentleman's thread. I hope to see what planes you guys have. Luftwaffe_Rommel will also like to share with you his collection. Though I only have a few, since the last mini war, most of my good models were destroy in combat. Enjoy your models and post them so we can enjoy together our past memories.

Enjoy Rommels planes, yes they were hard to do, it took me about 1 week to finish each and still haven't had time to finish the last one. But painting is my favorite part of th project.

here the last picture of the He111 remains and also the remains of Hurricane [FYI the soldier standing next to the hurricane is not Ace pilot James C Chase, like I said he died during the crash]
here are also the remains of the 6 Bf 109s that battle James chase during the battle of britain.

I can asure you my friend it is no supermarine spitfire, it is a Hurricane, after the crash James C. Chase had after shooting down all the Bf109s I had to saw-off the front and the wings as they were either crushed, blown away or deformed my the explosion [melted]. I could just had let the Hurricane burn into flames, but since it was my first plane I decided to save it's remains, and here they are after 7 years [ During which he has survive several crash landings and explosions, He has Rule the skies 3 time getting back into action more ferocious than ever before, His last score was bombing 4 Panzers, Shooting 6 Bf 109s and 1 He 111]. This plane has crashed behind enemy lines in multiple ocasions, but it is always free by brave soldiers who risk their lives to recover him "No Germans should lay a hand on his Royal airframe".

Forgive me , Rommel likes to Dramatize a little his battlefield reenactments just like the greatest movies above /\. Currently Watching A Bridge Too Far

I think now I'm in doubt, debating between Hurricane or Spitfire. Well whenever I rebuild him he looks like a hansome Hurricane, maybe this time I'll make him a spitfire, we'll see how he looks then.

Latest News on Bridge Too Far:grin:
The Germans are being pounded with artillery fire and teh Typhon fighters are about to bomb their positions, boy i wouldn't want to be call Rommel at this time. hahaha:rolleyes:. Oh they Typhons are here, what a great bombing run. The Shermans are now pushing forward.

If you look at the "remains" of the plane (with the guy stood next to it) you can tell by the tail fin alone that its a spitfire :) also where the canopy would be it differs from that of a hurricane, also the fuselage is to thin. Its a spitfire alright :D thank god it wasnt a hurricane!! seeing a hurricane in bits is not a sight i wish to see :P

As for films....

A battle of britain is absolutely superb. Top 3 aerial war films are as follows -

Battle of Britain
633 Squadron
The Dambusters

U571 one of the best films of all time? I love war films above all else but I can't abide that film. Not only the historical innacuracy but the subs attacking each other with torpedos. That's akin to ww2 aircraft with guided missiles. I wouldn't use the DVD of that film to scrape soles of my boots.
A Bridge Too Far, that's a great war film. Pretty accurate and shows all sides of the battle equally

I will have a look for that one Dave. I am always on the lookout for more obscure war films. I picked a good one up last year called "Men Of Yamato". Big budget Japanese film about the battleship Yamatos last mission. Pretty harrowing seeing the ship get hammered by the dive and torpedo bombers

there was a german flick about little kids being pressed into service in the last days of the war. actually saw it in german class in college. probably truer ( not the actual story of little klaus...but the event ) than we know and also very sad.

I saw Windtalkers at the dollar theaters, when it was there, and I'm SO glad I didn't spend more than a buck to see it. What a waste of film. I saw it more as a focus around Nicolace Cage, than the actual Navajo Windtalkers. Out of more modern Pacific War movies, I think that Thin Red Line was probably the best.

And for anyone who hasn't seen it, The Winter War, is a great movie as well. It focuses on the Finn side, but it's really good since it's probably one of the most limited movie out that focus on the Winter War.

Enemy At The Gates was good, but I thought to dramatized for such a place like Stalingrad where there was nothing but fear and death happening 24/7.

Downfall, a German made movie, is really good. I like it a lot.

One of the best films about the Eastern Front if not just war in general:Idi i smotri (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091251/)
http://i40.tinypic.com/2wppgfr.jpg

Of course Das Boot (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082096/) is a classic and the full TV mini-series is even better.

Two somewhat obscure films about the Soviets in Afghanistan:
9 Rota (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0417397/)
http://img4.uploadhouse.com/fileuploads/5362/53628841145b6032e8456c784e2f45e28921e85.gif

The thing I find funny about most movies, like The Beast and Rota 9, that take place on the Soviet side of the war, is how often they always have one or two deserter or dissident in their ranks. When actually, reading up on the Soviet-Afghan war, you'll see that it wasn't a very common thing for Soviet soldiers to do, and that those who did try to leave were usually taken in by a patrol and executed for desertion.

Considering what was likely to happen to you if you were captured in Afghanistan, I don't blame them.

I have been absent from this forum for a few days and I can see how this thread has evolve from mini scale airplanes to World War II films to what you might consider modern wars.

Well here's a kicker for u gentlemen of fine taste:
When I was a little kid about 3-4 years perhaps even as young as I can remember my first film and also my first war film was that of Rambo Second Blood. How about that, you would think what kind of parent let a 3 year old watch a war movie with gore and violence, you may also think I might grow up to be a war maniac. Well, my parents were not bad, actually I think they are the best, and as of the Psycological impacts that movie might have had on me are unotizable, I use to love war up until my great grandma died when i was 5. Then I came to understand that war was evil and people died, people you love just like my great grandma. Anyways this is not the point, the point is Since this discussion is head with Russia and Middle East I might as well through in Korea and Vietnam. John Rambo was my war hero as a child, I even pretend I was him and used sticks or rocks pretending they were a machine gun and granades. Also I got in love with planes, The Huey Gunship Helicopter was and is my favorite war aircraft. So to make this thread even more interesting lets hear what were your favorite war movies and ur childhood heroes.http://blogs.poz.com/shawn/upload/rambo.jpg
PS I now have mixed feeling about Vietnam [good/bad] so confused, specially after I took a history class entirely on the Vietnam War. Though, one thing is clear John Rambo the character is awesome. "I'm coming for u mordok". I don't like the last movie on Rambo, that one does suck big time.

OK got the old movie i was looking for. it is called "Die Bruecke" or The Bridge. it was from 1959 from Germany..a B&W ( with sub titles ). a powerful anti-war statement, where youth are willing
to "faithfully" and "blindly" follow a Nazi command to defend
a bridge against the Allies...to the death!
Also says much about the debilitating forces of indoctrination
of the German youth during the Nazi Regime.

The Beast (aka The Beast of War) is a Columbia Pictures movie about a Soviet T-62 tank lost in Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1981. The movie was released in 1989.
