Yak-7b and LaGG-3!!!! If you could be SOOO kind Houndstone, could you give us a video of the inside of both those planes!? It doesn't have to be fancy, just a little montage of the cockpits or something. I will greatly appreciate it. :D

It looks like WoP is using the BoP engine. If it is, then it's not surprising it has more content as it's standing on BoP's shoulders with added dev time.
That's why I cut BoP a lot of slack. It's their first foray into console gaming, they can't be expected to get everything right first time.

After 2 copies & a couple of console sticks, I wasn't going to spend out on the new pc version "Wings of Prey" but after reading that they had included a replay feature along with cockpits for all
Wow thanks for taking the time to show us this Hawk it is appreciated. And might I say that it looks awesome.
Hopefully in the second version they will include everything you stated. We know they have the ability and the gamepad with the right button placements can support things like prop pitch and fuel mixture. But with consoles alot of these publishing companies can make money off of DLC, so lets hope they do things differently the next go around and lets hope they give us some proper DLC this go around. :)

Yes , I agree also, I have bought this game 4 times now , 360 , ps3, psp, and finally the PC.
I didn't want to buy the Pc version but I finally did. It is amazing. Its what I dreamed the console versions would be back before it came out. I'm really impressed with it so far. If you have a pc that meets the specs then don't wait around, just get it.

I don't own Wings of Prey, but my guess would be 1946 is better. It's lacking in graphics but beats WoP in terms of content and extra features like the mission builder (WoP doesn't have one, right?).

1946without a moments hesitation!!!
Yes Wings of Prey is very good & its clearly head & shoulders over Birds of Prey but 1946 has absolutely everything the pc WWII aviation enthusiast could ever dream of. It's had years of fine tuning & additions & Wings of Prey is a step in the right direction; a worthy 1st attempt indeed. Wings of Prey does NOT have a mission builder although I read somewhere that there are plans to include one in a future patch. There is still the track replay facility. WoP has a very crude replay in place but my video will show that there is no player drop cameras, known as static cameras in IL-2 Sturmovik, no simple flyby view (found in almost any flightsim, even Ace Combat) & certainly no multitude of views to be found, like in Sturmovik (external friendly padlock view, ground target view etc) & ofcourse Bomber aircraft are still highly, out of place, arcade beasts with no interior, no gun stations or bombadier stations; but it is pointed in the right direction. I've been very impressed with the P-51, P-47, 109, FW, 262, Komet, 110, M.C. 202, Yak-7, LaGG & Stuka Cockpits & it's highly playable. And now multiple perepherals & Track IR are recognised, I can instantly fly the P-51 once again, with no stall-outs every half second. I also don't need to mention the graphics as that was always BoP's strong point anyway.
Very pleased but, like many others here have found, it's taken about 3 or 4 purchases of this franchise to get here.
For those asking, I will post a LaGG-3 35 Cockpit video on this thread later tonight & will follow up with the Yak-7b.

One last thing on that, if you could give us some profile shots of the planes frames, that would be great too. I want to see how accurate they got them. :D

Houndstone, you are the greatest! :D Great shots of the cockpit (which is VERY accurate) and the profile shots, are definitely that of a 35!!! Can't wait for the Yak-7b, if it's as accurate as the LaGG. There is no doubt in my mind, I'll be purchasing WoP & Upgrading my PC with my next two paychecks.
And here's this. It's the highest Soviet medal, the 'Hero of the Soviet Union' medal. You deserve it for shooting down those terrible Me-110s over the great city, named after our glorious leader, Comrade Stalin. :D

To tell you the truth, I've been so wrapped up with the now-correct P-51D 'office' & the plethora of new cockpits that I haven't taken the Mustang Mk.Ia up but I do believe it's more or less the same a/c as was featured in BoP with the same 4 wing mounted cannons. I think it's just changed in name.

Two medals in one night!!! Well your generosity must be rewarded with these crude Yak-7 pics to be getting on with. I'll bang a vid up as soon as I can; in the mean time - go get Wings of Prey BETA; it's getting even better by the day. Patch 1.0.1.0 has just sprung up. Enjoy ...
It's like the dev's listened to everything I ever said about Soviet planes. :P *tears up* They even gave it the right cockpit with the razor back!! Should have done the same with the Yak-1b but whatever it doesn't matter now. I have my very own Soviet-eqsue P-40. (Yeah, the Soviets took the cockpit/razor back style of the American P40, and put it on their Yak-1s and obviously the Yak-7s.)

If the Mustang Ia has got four 20mm cannons then it's been fixed aswell. Fake P-51B in BoP had four .50 machine guns. This makes me happy that they have actualy listened to all the sugestions we have been making in the theads here.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for posting this - I'm particularly impressed with the Track IR - would free up the right stick on the pad and be so much more intuitive. I just wonder, isn't there a thing called Eye TV for PS that has that kind of functionality, couldn't that be adapted by the developers to sense head movement? I'd get one right away!
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if possible we should put this on our developers wish list asap.

Re: MACADEMIC's post. Hey, like the way you're thinking. Great idea but I'm very sure it wouldn't work. TRACK IR is an extremely sophisticated little gizmo & uses infrared light to track your head movements in much the same way as ultra-expensive targeting systems. Track IR5 is weighing in at something like £130. On the other hand, the Playstation Eye is little more than a glorified webcam. It would've been great if it could be enhanced with games like BoP in providing motion data but I have doubts as to its limitations.

The new P-40E-1 for Wings of Prey, costing 3$ (10.00 yuplay 'yums'), which equates to around £1.80. (A little different to the staggering price of the BoP P-47 & missions). ;)

I'll tell you a great GFX card I just picked up is the Gigabyte GTX 260 Super overclock. For around $200 it beats all the GTX 275's and hangs with some of the 285's !! I'm completly floored by this card.
Its specs from the factory are amazing.
GIGABYTE GV-N26SO-896I GeForce GTX 260 Super Overclock 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 sli

Head tracking was announced as part of Project Natal, so 360 users will be able to have this feature when BoP's sequel launches, and it is unlikely that head tracking will be implemented into BoP itself, so the probability is that PS3 users will also have to wait for the sequel to get head tracking.

I just tried the demo myself and boy what a difference from the 360 version
First i could use my old trusty logitech force 3D Pro joystick (i know, its not the best out there but it does its job). Now compare that joy from the xbox av8tor its huge difference there already. No goddam deadzone, smooth in controls, easy to finetune aim. Loads of buttons you can config as you want and so on :)
I played on my pc-screen and on 1680X1050 res. and all the settings maxed out. The demo limits some settings (only the full game have all settings) and still the game run smooth as silk :)
And boy it looked good. Gonna try it on my 37" lcd tv-screen later and see how it works there.
Too bad the 360 version didnt quite work out as good as it does on pc though, perhaps its not fair to compare the two formats but i cant help to feel the pc is ways moore better.
Once i had the freetrack ( http://www.free-track.net/english/ ) similar to trakir5.0 and was flying in 1946 and it was really fun, feeling realistic as it can be apart from the real thing.
Im thinking of buying wop if the patch to bop dont work out so well as i hope.
To bad we cant have any better joys to 360. Now when i have tryed my old log. 3d force pro again its really hard to load up the crappy av8tor again.
Edit: does anyone now how the online system works on wop yet? Is it released in public so we can go out and play online?

Very kind words indeed & to that; many thanks. I'm real glad like-minded ppl such as ur good self can enjoy them. From what I'm hearing though, it sounds as if WoP, although beautiful in looks & playability; is framerate friendly to most machines. On the other hand, there is no reason at all that the devs can't bring BoP up to speed. The replay editor is nothing fancy, complex engine management could be added now there is keyboard & mouse support for PS3, & all the extra cockpits, LaGG 3, Yak 7 & P-40E simply HAS to make it as DLC.

Hi & thanks.
According to the yuplay website, there may be plans for a quick mission editor in the very near future but they didn't go into any kind of detail as to it's content & functionality etc. This is copied from the site, from the admin team member 'todace'.
Ok, more details.
1. No custom skins will be available. May be later in updates or in sequel - we are working on lots of directions and User Generated Content too. But our game is much more complex in terms of content - so it is much harder to make skins too.
2. In fact main new features are:
Main: authentic bullet tracers, more relaistic rain effects, arcade realism level has now much more realistic speeds limits, all authentic cockpits for all fighters (may be in next DLC\update for console game too, but depends on publisher).
Multiplayer: 32 players in match, Join-in-Progress, Migration Host, Persistent lobby (and lots of fixes, some of them are the same as in update, some are new), changes in team modes gameplay scheme (now only Allies against Axis available)
Single: optional take-offs in some missions.
After release we plan to release som-addons with planes\missions\locations (that is to be detailed).
Also we want to make som UGC support - skins or\and missions (or just advanced quick mission builder). But that is future plans for next year.

At the moment, it's still going through its BETA stage & so there are regular patches that you will have to d/l manually although you are notified on startup & are presented with a link.
You only have to d/l & keep up to date with the patches if you plan to play online. Whether the patch retrieval system will be automated on the final release or follow the same procedure, I'm not too sure.

It's funny how everyone is all excited about WoP and forgets how badly BoP was fumbled.

That's because WoP has everything and is everything, we hoped BoP would have and be.

I dunno how it's good for you, but it's good for me and a few others on here. Sure BoP got shafted, but hey what can you do? People are drawn to top notch and a seemingly better product? Which WoP is seeming to be turning out to be better thanks to Houndstone's videos and screen shots he's given us. I mean WoP, has what most of us wanted before BoP's release; which is German cockpits. And it even has newer added planes (LaGG-3, Yak-7b, P-40E etc.)
Maybe people are just more entertained by the new product, rather the lesser one. Now don't get me wrong, BoP is fun and all but to those of us that have a capable PC to play WoP, it's definitely a step up.

You said it. They drew us (360 users) in with BoP & promises, with hopes we'll buy WoP. No thanks. I have not interest in keeping up a CPU.

If we could have a choice to use custom joys instead of the crappy saitek and if they could let go of patches in descent time i would ceartenly stay with the xbox360 version but still . . . . :(

I'm with you all the way on this one. If you were to look thru my posts, you'd see that I'm of opinion that console gamers get shafted time after time. I asked the quetion 'why' with a thread I started here called 'Do you feel ripped off as a console gamer' & I pretty much got tore a new a-hole.
I agree with you guys; if the BoP wasn't such a gaping 'miss' (even after the pathetic PS3 patch attempt) & boasted all the content & peripheral support that WoP has, I prob wouldn't have even looked at looked at the pc equivalent but the cold, harsh reality is that Wings of Prey is so much more superior in every way. After buying this title on 360, PS3 & now PC, almost 90 quid later (exc. the PS3 hotas & 360 aviator I bought), I'm finally enjoying this IL-2 wanabe.
It's not just BoP/WoP. Take Op Flashpoint Dragon Rising. Pathetic on console, with about 8 hours gameplay & little else apart from the premium DLC & very limited multiplay; PC version in comparison, the same DLC at no charge, full mission editor giving unlimited longevity & playability & more. Even the old gen Op Flashpoint saw the original xbox get the mission editor.
There needs to be a realisation here; that a competent, immersive, involving, unbroken & realistic yet fun flight sim can be done for console. TAITO's OVER G FIGHTERS will always be proof to that.

I'm pretty sure you are'nt the only one to buy all three versions of BoP. Everybody who enjoys WoP should thank you, as well as the rest of us for funding it.

Yep. I know what you mean. It does rather feel that some of us have thrown a stack of money at the title.

I suppose the only hope for us console gamers is that the sequel won't be broken.

Inspired by Birds of Prey's best single mission 'Channel Patrol'
+1. And I bet I know why you like it, probably the same reason I do. Take-off and RTB! I'll never understand why in the heck they didn't do that for more, if not all the missions.
Excellent vid as always Hawk. Those German cockpits make me want to cry :( if only my PC wasn't 5 years old.
You and I didn't exactly get off on the good foot in the beginning, but I realize now you and I are more alike than I thought. Your love of aviation really comes through in these vids, and in the end that's what it's all about (at least for me). You are one of my favorite contributors on here :)

Hit the nail squarely on the head re: Channel Patrol. It is perhaps the only mission in the game that has true immersion & getting your Hurri back to Manston on SIM & you really feel that you've taken part in a thrilling air experience.
LOL. The likes of yourself, FOZ, Juz1, deSode, Infinate States, Seraph, Spitfire23, winny etc, know what you're talking about & you debate like modest, decent ppl with an intelligent passion for their interest & so my continual spoutings of disappointments & opinions was always going to stretch tempers but it's you guys (mentioned above) that will always command respect from me on this forum; you know your stuff & u help others with the knowledge. I've enjoyed making these vids for you guys & I'm so glad when I read that some of you get enjoyment from viewing them too.

Fantastic black and white effect. Although I'm glad you didn't use it for the whole video! How TV didn't spawn a generation of epileptics until colour came along I do not know...
Also, loved the radio chatter - and sound editing in general. WP :)

P-51 requested I make a video featuring the iconic Hurricane, against the backdrop of summer 1940 so here it is. Inspired by Birds of Prey's best single mission 'Channel Patrol'....
Enjoy.
Thanks for the video Hawk! Glad to hear other people like the "Channel Patrol" mission as well. My favorite mission too!
