After watching that wonder "James Mays Toy Stories" on the Beeb last night it got me wondering. How many of you aircraft buffs make/made em?
if so what and have you got and pics?

In my yoof I was know to attach parts of a model aeroplane to myself with various solvents, moving into later years I went more into tabletop wargames (it gave painting the toy soldiers some purpose) but I still bash out the occasional 'real life' model (got a 1:25 scale Sherman I keep meaning to get round to doing).

Its compulsory isnt it?
youve never made a scale model until one vital piece is missing only to be found stuck to some part of your anatomy a few days later.

I make 'em.
No pics tho, I have a wip right now but I need to buy a decent airbrush compressor in order to finish it. Then I'll take the pics ;)
My favs are Fine Moulds and Hasegawa (pretty good to begin with), but I'm going to try an Eduard kit soon

I'm definitely not good!! You'll see it from my pics
Same as King Jareth I have more experience with toy soldiers, but I prefer RL planes.

And the brand choice is made mainly because I love kits with tons of parts (which make me swear a lot actually!)...

Ah well thats the fun.
after hours of cursing and fiddleing with pieces that are so small you need a microscope to see you can stand back and say "I built that".

in my childhood ive built hundreds of airfix kits we used to have a local model shop that sold hundreds you also used to be able to buy then in your local newsagents too

i got the model bug from my uncle i used to spend a lot of time with my uncle and cousin as my father was away on deployment for long periods of time and my uncle still has lots of models me and my cousin made when we were kids plus the hundreds he built himself

i can prob say i got the aircraft bug from him too as he used to take me and my cousin to lots of airshows i have very fond memories of my uncle he was like a second father figure to me and i still visit him often to catch up on things

As a kid i used to do airfix models with my dad, but always broke a few when i tried playing with them :( as i grew up i switched vfrom airfix to die cast collectibles... very very expensive though :( i have over 50 of these die cast models. My favourites being...yeah you know it, the hawker hurricane (4 of them) and the lancaster (2 of them).

The other lanc i have (dambusters) is good, it comes on a stand, well more of a base thats shaped like the mohner dam, but it has a button on it. When you press the button you see lights flash on the base to simulate gun fire and water from the dam, but also the sound of the lanc flying over low and fats before playing the dambusters music!! worth the £150 i paid for it :D

AJ-G was Guy Penrose Gibsons Leader of 617sqn.
Lancaster AJ-S flown by Pilot Officer Louis Burpee, which was shot down in Holland in wave 3 of the Dambusters Raid.
Ive just realised how ever that its number is that of AJ-N

I picked up model building from one of my brothers at a younger age. He still remembers the day I took his prized "Memphis Belle" B-17 model out to the back yard and blew it up with Black Cat firecrackers.
But in my defense it was a little boy's imagination that took over and in my mind I was flying the B-17 over war torn Germany on the way to a bombing mission while trying to survive the horrible flak of enemy guns and dodging German Bf-109's
It was a glorious mission until a direct hit blew the plane in half.
I think my brother chased me around the house a dozen times.

I was planning to have my own fleet of WWII model planes, never really worked out!:D I bought a bunch of model supplies including an airbrush, but haven't had as much time for it as I thought I would. I've only managed to build one so far, and that's my personal favorite B-25. It looked ok for a first time job I thought, but it fell of it's shelf a couple of weeks ago and lost a prop.:( I'm hoping to reattach it.

Liquid Poly should sort that if not try a needle or pin.

haha yeah, you've got to leave a couple of windows open or you get to feel a bit light headed.:-P

I still haven't finished my second model, my airbrush is actually not working and I can't figure out what's wrong for the life of me. I need to take it down to the hobby store when I can find the time.

Run out of compressed air?

Nope, I had just bought a full can. The air was spraying out, and so was paint thinner when I tried that, but I couldn't get the paint to spray. I know it wasn't the paint quality either, because I had just bought some brand new expensive paints.

Matt did you use the right thinner for your paints?
Cause I had some problems using certain acrylic paints watered down with...water. They needed a specific thinner otherwise the pigment would not "spread" into the mix but stayed too dense (I could not notice that just by mixing or by eyesight, actually had to try spraying), causing the airbrush not to work properly.
The can also has its toll, the pressure is not constant after a few seconds and it's a pain in the a**.
So I know it's expensive but I suggest to get a compressor.

Sorry for bad english, hope it's clear enough :)

I gotta say yours is nicer than mine. :) I like that nose art too, mines just a decal of some hot chick. I mean not bad, but I like your painted one a lot better.

Also, @Hrok, it might be the problem you mentioned, as I don't have the highest quality airbrush around, but I tried it with paints that have known to consistently work in the past, and it was just failing on that day. Maybe I'll try it again soon, but I swear I've used up half my can of air just doing tests to try to get it working lol. :)
