By all means, PROTECT YOUR HEAVY BOMBER...

I don't take this, or any game too seriously, and to be honest, I really don't care if I win or loose. I just enjoy playing... BUT... I will be lying if I say that sooner or later, not learning some sort of strategy doesn't irritate me. Most of the guys on this game are cool. But, others just don't get it.. They seem to be used to the "every man for themselves" aspect of some of the shooter, and fighting games.. That is fine, in it's element. BUT, when you enter into a "TEAM" game, play the game as a team, or a single unit.. I just played 3 or 4 good strike matches, and there was good turnouts.. With 4-6 players per side, there is NO excuse to run off like Rambo, and try to concor the world by yourself. If that is the case, then there are "single player" modes.. The first strike mission, I was in my Jug (P-47), and did pretty good. The highest scorer on my team. Which I don't typically point out, but, the point was, this was a good match, and a very close one. But, if we worked as a unit, should have taken that match. We lost by just a handful of tickets in the last seconds.. No worries.. The next couple matches, I flew the B-17, hoping that would give that few tickets edge.. We had plenty fighter flyers.. No one was talking in any of the matches.. WHY don't some of the fighter pilots see that there is a heavy bomber in the game, and that bomber is going to be your big ticket counter? All members are important, but taking tickets wins the game, and if you have a big ticket taker on your team. By ALL MEANS PROTECT it!!!!.. Follow it.. escort it, no matter how boring that might be. Believe me, you will have PLENTY action when we get over the targets, because all THEIR fighters are going to be around the big bomber. I dont know why I always seem to get the lone wolfs that simply like to fly around and dog fight, no matter what the actual mission, or goal is. if ya notice, the single kill does not much to the overall team score guys. PROTECT the bombers. If there are more than one fighter, at least one or two stay home to protect OUR ground targets... And the rest come on and fly with the big ass flying school buss and shoot anybody that comes near it.. jeesh..

Ok..Im all better now.. Getting off my soap box and getting back in my plane. I think it is all fueled up now..

thank you, and I now return you to your regularly sceduled program.

I do find it easy to sneak in onto unprotected B-17s in strike missions with a Bf-110. Occasionally Foz1983, if he's on the opposing side and not busy shooting down somebody else, might spot me, but usually I'm free to blast away for quite a few minutes before a fighter shows up to have a go spoiling my fun.

The Bf-110 is the best bet for causing impressive amounts of damage and destruction to B-17s though the speed is an issue, being 40 MPH slower in level flight than the actual real aircraft with WEP.

The rate of climb is screwed up as well, bearing in mind that the Bf-110 C4's ability to outclimb both Spitfire, Hurricane and Bf-109 E3 is more than well documented.

It feels like I'm flying the Bf-110 C10 twin 30mm. FlaK version (belly pack mounted) than the C4, as the lack of performance seems about right.

I know what you are saying tudorp. But it is not always the best/only strategy to play strike.
For example, when I fly with seraph and he takes a b-17, and out opponents also have a B-17, I will normally not go and protect him, but will go out and take down their B-17 non stop.

Easy example: B17 + La-7 vs B-17 + la7
1) if I hang around our b-17, there will be no one bothering their B-17
2) ^^ due to this, their B-17 will 100% sure score full tickets
3) If the enemy La-7 does not go dogfight with me when attacking our B-17, he will get at least a few seconds to shoot at our B-17 (for example at the first head-on pass). If this continues during a whole game, our B-17 is bound to crash one time. In this case this will cause us to lose, becuase their B-17 has been scoring the whole time.

BUT, if Im positive that I will be able to take out their B-17 every time before it reaches our targets, It is only up to our B-17 to stay alive for one bombing run.
Since you normally have enough time to take down the enemy bombers before they reach target, I find this a safer option.

so normally, no, i will not protect my bombers (unless they ask me to), I will go hunt theirs. Focussing purly on their heavyist bomber.
This 'tactic' has not let me and seraph down so far ;) so i will keep doing it

If you are flying fighter and are not able to take down bombers quickly, then by all means defend your bombers and take down their fighters! But if can take down a B-17 in less then 10 seconds, plz do that ;)

Your strategy is a perfect example of my issue though. We are on the same page. You are using a strategy. It is just as important to take out their heavy bombers, as it is to protect your own. If it is 2 on 2, yeah, ya might do better to do exactly what you do and focus on the downing of their big ticket taker. I was talking more about games where there is no excuse not to protect your bomber. In the matches that bother me, is when there are plenty fighters to go around. Some stay home, some go on escort duty. If you have enough then the ideal situation is bomber protection, home protection AND hunt down and kill fighters.. The problem I have is everyone NOT talking and splitting rolls up. they just go out on solo missions on their own. Most just simple dog fighting, not even paying attension to the bigger picture. Hell, I have even see fighters nearly off the map, not near anything doing who knows what? That last one not today though. Today it was just plenty people to go around, but no one paying attension to any order of things..

I got slaughtered yesterday in that huge strike game we had!!!

I was flying the B17, and was THE ONLY bomber one our team, yet i got taken out so many times before i could even get close to any targets. The other team played damn well together because they seemed to work in tandam taking me me out. Fighter support would of been nice.

Since that match i have decided to cut my losses, and now i will put the P47 to use in strike instead. It carries enough bombs, is fairly quick and can do the job well enough. Failling that i'll take the hurricane with 6 rockets ;) lol.
