As topic says! I get the impression a lot of people here seem to play simulators.

My picks would be:

Silent Hunter III. Many sleepless nights with this one, whether it be infiltrating english harbors or cruising the atlantic. I like how sub sims are not as stressful as many other simulations (unless you are feeling heroic), but rely more on tactics and patience instead of controls.

Red Orchestra: Ostfront. It's by far the best FPS I've played. Some people would probably just call it "realistic shooter", but I think it's pretty "simmy".
Good ballistics/damage modeling, all gameplay aspects are solid, and for a game the out-of-box historical accuracy is pretty damn good. Looking forward to the sequel (that will be published by 1C if i'm not mistaken).

I've also played a lot of tank sims (whose names I cant remember). Tried a little IL-2 and jet sims as well, but I never sank my teeth into them (because lack of a good controller and not much time to learn).

Besides BoP I've not played many proper sims for a long time (RacePro on xbox can probably be reguarded a sim in the similar vein to BoP is I suppose).

Going by hours played my most used sim is most probably Gunship (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunship_%28game%29) so long ago I can hardly remember. I probably should play more sims but as with everything now I have kids time and money are both major limiting factors.

I'd like to think of Rainbowsix & Rogue Spear as "simulators" but I'm sure the hardcore would disagree.

Glad I'm not the only one who remembers that game.:)I had it for the PS1 and sunk a lott of hours into it.

Yeah, any simulator or very realistic games will do. I agree with SWAT 4, because its awesome. Very similar to Rainbow Six' finest moments. I like how you always have to think twice before shooting (the game punishes you severely for shooting innocents or unarmed suspects).

Has anyone tried "T-34 vs Tiger"? I heard it has its flaws but it sure looks immersive. The tanks in Red Orchestra were great fun so I'm interested in picking this game up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_fAG2MGyyE

Thats it Dazz, next time we're both on OFDR we're getting in an MP game and you're taking the Seahawk for a spin .

Not tried any dedicated tank sims, I should as they sound good.
I did try playing DCS-Blackshark but I swear I heard my ageing graphics card cry.

I think I'll try DCS after they bring in the A-10 and the Apache.
The Enemy Engaged games are pretty good and some mods out there for the older ones and they can be had CHEAP on gog.com.

Apart from BOP, MS Combat Flight Sim 1 (battle for Europe) as its the only one that I could ever load on my PC and I acquired hundreds of missions, campaigns, landable Carriers, etc over the years. Landing on the aircraft Carriers is a hoot without a tail hook.....getting dusty now I have BOP but occaisionaly may give it a go...

A few sims stand out for me that i had mass amounts of fun on..the most notable are....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80EIMi6Vmo8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VS92fKZyntk

The first one is CFS2 (combat flight sim), the second is B17 the mighty 8th (start clip from 2:05 to see it start moving) and the third is EAW (European Air War). These are clips i did some years ago now. I used to love flying these games.

On the first clip, with the lancaster bobmer taking off... i made this lanc myself in game.

Code letter VN-B this was the code of the lancaster my grandad flew during the war, the song "abide with me" he always used to sing to himself in the rear turret while taxi ing and taknig off, and the picture at the end... my grandad, god bless him :D

LOL - I purchased Falcon 4.0 without owning a computer! I used to assume control over my friends' PC's when I would visit them. ;)

I haven't owned a PC since the early to mid-90s so I am going to have to go old school on this and bear in mind the standards for a 'sim' were a lot less exacting back then:

Battle of Britain: Their Finest Hour
Aces Over Europe
Aces Over The Pacific
X-Wing
Tie Fighter

Most of those by todays standards would rank more in the arcady side of things, but back then just having red-outs in the Aces games was pretty amazing. Their Finest Hour came out waaaay back in 1991 and actually had sprites instead of polygons and ya know what? It was awesome, thats where I first learned how to do immelmans and split-s's. How do you realistically simulate an X-Wing? I think LucasArts did an amazing job trying and it was one of the best games I've ever played, def a top 5 ranker. If you've never played any of these get dos-box and give it a shot, you will have a blast.

I've been wanting to pick up dcs for a while now, supposed to be really awesome even though it looks to take about 5 min to start up the heli. The same company is making a new game about the A-10 Warthog one of my favorite planes.

Man this topic brings back memories...
The first and only flight sim game I really played was on Amiga500 (yes, many many years ago - was just a kid) and was named Birds of Prey!

So that's my second favourite after Il2BoP lol.

The sims i spent the most time with are:

-IL-2
(its simply the best prop sim)

-Fighter Squadron-SDOE
(excellent physics, fantasic mods and add-ons, almost a sandbox with planes)

-Janes Longbow 2
(my first sim on a 3D graphics card, l loved those hellfires lighting up the grund in their path)

-Janes F15
(my first jet sim, and with groundbreaking graphics and detail)

OT:
The BF1942 with the Desert Combat mods. Not a sim, but i spent hundreds of hours online. Fantastic gameplay on very open maps.

1. X-alliance
2. Falcon 4.0
3. Tie Fighter

I guess driving games could also qualify as sims, so Colin McRae Rallies should be #1 on my list if playing hours were counted...
