View Full Version : What Would You Like In A Sequel?

I'm starting this thread because I have some ideas, I'm sure many of you do too, and the dev suggestion thread is supposed to be only for title update suggestions.

Single Player Ideas
I would suggest going for more immersion, with takeoffs, landings assembly points etc. The select button could be used to toggle time compression when flying long distances with an automatic reset to 1x when you reach the combat zone.

Also the attempt at providing pilot background with the Joss Auckland voice overs seems half-hearted and doesn't really work IMO. Does anybody else here remember the X-Wing series for PC? Thats how you put some role-playing elements into a flight sim, it would be great for increasing the mass appeal of the title as well.

On small detail I find to be excruciatingly missing from the SP experience that I would love to see in a sequel is a pilot record of the SP campaign with kills by type, points gotten, objectives reached, kills by wingmen etc. Again, see the pilot record in X-Wing and Tie-Fighter for an excellent system.

Mission Recorder, we need it, can we have it? The ability too record, view and edit films cannot be underrated. Just do it.

The thorniest problem for me is what to do about arcade. I really think it should be re-tooled to be more like realistic, or possibly eliminated with the flight models in realistic made a little more forgiving. The goal here should be graduating noobs into Sim, thats where IL-2 stands out form the pack and arcade currently does it no justice, though I see the need for an approachable entry point to the game.

Multi-Player Ideas
The biggest thing needed and needed urgently is more community support, the MP lobbies and matchmaking are so bare bones that I'm not going to go into great detail, just rip off Halo or CoD. Long story short when you have a good match with people it should be easy to keep playing with them. As of now you have to send invites every time, in a weird way it has helped to build community but its also a pain.

More game modes are needed, better pilot records (see Halos campaign reports), customizable skins (or at least a set of pre-fab options to mix and match), films and file sharing of said films. My advice is don't be PC snobs, look at what Halo3 and CoD have done right and adapt it to IL-2; its all about fostering community and competition. Don't take this the wrong way but maybe 1C should consider hiring some native english-speakers to help facilitate this? Considering the majority of your user-base is going to be Anglo-American eliminating the language barrier can only help.

Basically I think the MP of IL-2 could be as big as Halo3 or CoD. It takes real skill, theres a steep learning curve that creates a lot of different skill levels, its exciting as hell, theres a lot of detail and choice to get into with the different plane types etc. The dev team has gotten its feet wet in the console market with BoP, now if you can take that and majorly improve its presentation, you could have a world beater on your hands. Think big.

There's a sequel suggestion thread on the dev's forum, here (http://forum.yuplay.com/index.php?showtopic=14).

The other one is for the more serious questions to the devs. I love it there's two different forums. Too much junk flying around on this one to actually get to know something.

ahh ok, but I can't register now becuz yuplay is updating. Anyhoo, its not like the devs are actually going to have their minds blown by my *urgently important* ideas, I'm just bored at work. Do you think thats ever happened? Some nerd on a forum has had a brainstorm and all of a sudden the devs are like "whoah, stop the presses! We have to redesign the game!"

Haha, probably not that much of a reaction, but I like to believe they do pick up a thing or two ;).

I only want one thing... it to work, just to have them make a game that works, to do it properly like they did the PC games, is that REALLY so hard? to do what they've done MANY times before again? They produced GREAT games for the PC, so stop jipping us console gamers, and do a proper job, because we're not idiots and WILL notice when they slack off because they think PC simmers dont own consoles and wont figure it out.

Get the plane models right like they did on the PC, allow take off and landing liek they did on the PC, allow multiple camo skins like they did in the PC, allow clan tags like they did in the PC, make bigger join in progress servers like they did on PC.

and release ALL content for free like they do on the PC.

Stop ripping off console gamers (as ALL console game companies do!) I'm bored by being screwed for owning an Xbox360.

ALso I can't believe they're THINKING of a sequel when the FIRST one doesnt even work right yet.

I wont be buying it until I've read a few reviews AFTER purchase this time, seeing as I'll get screwed for NOT pre-ordering again, and have to pay MORE than a regular new game to get it.

Hate to say it, but I don't think they'd be able to release free content over both consoles. Valve tried to release free content (I think it was valve anyway), but microsoft refused to allow them to release it on xbox live unless it had a pricetag. I would REALLY like to see the DLC handled better in the future. What the publishers pulled with this batch is just wrong, especially to the xbox gamers who didn't get it right away.

Definately agree with a lot of the rest though. I'd love to see clan tags, the option to join games in progress (make it possible to turn it on and off, to please everyone) and multiple skins.

Personally, I'd like to see custom colors (I want my red, black and silver 109. lol), or at least the ability to make a squadron color scheme for your clan. I know the sim players complain that custom colors would make things harder for them, in that case, limit them to arcade and realistic.

I think this game was a good start, and its fun as hell, but there are still some improvments that need to be made, and things that need to be added in the next one for sure.

I think this game established a solid base. For the next one, they should work hard to build on it using all the ideas we've stated.

And maybe a different publisher that doesn't like to f*ck with us when it comes to DLC. $10 for 6 missions and 2 planes can kiss my arse.

We're not idiots, and that price doesn't stack up to other games at all, anyone who plays games like Mass Effect or even Forza can say that spending $10 on that DLC will get you a LOT more bang for your buck.

What I said in the other thread was similar. The 800 points cost is the same as a full Arcade game on live. Hell even at 400 points I bought a live arcade game last week. Im sure as hell not going to pay 800 points for this DLC. At 400 it was expensive but an option. Now its not even an option.

So Anton if your reading this, please get on the phone and give the publisher a real mouthful and get the price dropped. Otherwise your practically gauranteed NOT to sell any more DLC.

^^Very good point. For $10 you could get Battlefield 1943, a critically acclaimed shooter with hours and hours of replay value OR two planes (one of which isn't even competitive) and a couple of missions. I smell BS!!!

If it makes you feel any better, us people on the PS3 only got one plane. They didn't even include the Ta-152 in the DLC. I know it can be unlocked, and I'd probably never use it anyway, but it says right there in the DLC that it gives you the Ta.

I do like the P-47 though. Awesome plane.

Yeah, these publishers really shafted the fanbase. I hope the devs find a different one for the sequel or publish it themselves to bypass that completely.

Lots of potential for this game though. For a PC developer's first step onto a console, I really think they have done suprisingly well. Its not perfect, but first tries rarely are. I think that once issues are resolved and content is added, tweaked and polished, this could really be an epic series on the console for simmers and arcade players alike.

I agree, I had my doubts when the demo came out, but now that I've had the full ver for a little while I'm pleased. I've only played it on sim and I think its a totally reasonable approach for a console sim game. In fact while I was never a PC IL-2 player, from the youtube vids I've seen the experience doesn't look very different. Sure we can't control fuel mix, prop pitch, or convergence, but are they really essential? Admittedly the P-51 modeling has issues, which the devs are sorting out, but every other model seems authentic.

As far as DLC goes, aside from the DLC packs for Fallout 3, its almost always a scam, so I don't even worry about it. When the devs release something substantial, like a campaign of 15 missions with a new setting, I'll bite.
