Best plane for Dog Fights?

just wondering what your opinion is on the best plane for Dog Fights and why?

In this game you'll probably want a good turner. The best would probably be the Spit or the La-7. Pro's n cons:
Spit:
+ Nice guns
- Unstable, especially when shot in the wing

La-7:
+ Very stable and easy to fly
+ Fast :D
- Not the greatest guns, although still effective.

You could also pick an I-16 or I-153, these can turn on a penny (or whatever the official expression is) but they're slow, especially the I-153. I wouldn't advise it for starters.

What plane is best in dogfight? that depends on your style, on the aircraft of your opponent(s), and on the difficulty setting.

arcade: not going to talk about that, its all 'the same'

Realistic: in most cases you are best of with a good turning plane. Because of the red arrows pointing at your enemies, 9 out of 10 fights will end in a turning fight. i prefer the spit mk IX of XVI in realistic. They have a powerfull armament, and a very nice turn rate. If flown correctly, there is no plane you should not be able to outfly.
Bf109's will be easy target, as they cant keep up with turning
La/yak3 can be kind of a pain in the ass, but they should not be able to get on your six
I-153/I-16: if you encounter these, with whatever plane you have, fly awayyyy. They cant keep up if you fly straight. If you start turning against a I-16/I-153, you will die.

Sim mode:
Pick the plane you feel most comfortable in. I used to take spit here as well, but now I'm trying out the 109 series. You wont get outturned all the time in sim, because without the arrows pointing at you, it is 'not hard' to lose an enemy. You can force the dogfights to be something else than just a turning fight.

Soooo, the best overall dogfighter is imho the spit. But depending on your opponents, and difficulty, other planes will do the trick as well.
Are you fighting a bunch of spits? try the I-153/I-16, you can outturn the spits with ease and can kill many, if they dont fly away.

EDIT: sooo basicly what ancient seraph said :P. im just not a fan of the la-7 :rolleyes:. Dont like the 0 recoil (yeah call me stuppid :P). And hate the sound of the guns. I want to feeeel the guns when I shoot, and hear them rumble with menace

You can slam the rudder in all directions and you won't go into a spin. It doesn't turn into a flying brick once the wings are hit like the Spit. No pesky recoil to put you off aim. I managed to chalk up 8 kills in a match last night, which is better than I've done in the Spit.

* disclaimer - I still get wasted by anything Morgoth and Seraph fly though, so take the above with a pince of salt ;)

If you play SIM forget about big planes (IL2-10 or biplane) they are so easy to spot. and so easy to kill :-P :-P

Undoubtly LA 5-or 7 are the best dogfighters :) :) Spit have more firepower though.

But as Morghot said, in SIM no matter what plane you take (apart from 1vs1) you should be able to perform. Personnally what I disllike is an unstable firing platform such as the 109-G6.

PS: BOP players (at least in SIM) are very sensitive to a kind fashion's week ;).

when I start playing everybody was on 109's then a few days later it was russians VS russians on LA5-7 (thanks to Soviet Ace). and now I don't know why everybody seems to prefer the Spit mkXVI. (Which I'm still waiting to unblock because I'm more on that forum discussing the game due to work than actually playing the game lol.)

Next week will be Milan fashion's week. with MC202 for sure

If you're playing Sim, use the B-17, it's agile, manoeuvrable, fast and it has very little recoil form the front guns.

I also switch planes now and then, but I think it depends on the other gamers. Like you say, everyone seems to change plane. I think it might have got something to do with the category of the planes.

What I mean, If everyone is flying spit, Im not going to take a Bf109, because I will be outturned all the time. So I take a spit. If other people take a 109, I can as well.

You know what im saying? its the same with the mc202. If you pick it now, you will be slaughtered, if everyone has it, you can pick it too. So maybe :P...you will be right

Well yeah, but I'm still wondering which allied fighter can match the MC202 ???

The Spit MkII will slaughter the MC202...
The Hurrican will slaughter the MC202....

a P51 will just be a "no challenge" for the MC202 player ;) ;)

The P-51 and jets, are planes you should NEVER take in a decent dogfight.

+If it gets damaged to much, it is actually fairly easy to keep stable if your good at the controls.
-Does not have the Yak-3 canopy.

The La-7 is amazing. It's just tricky to actually shoot someone with it. You also don't have to set the sens. too much down, about 2-3 notches.

Remember to give full sensitivity to the LA5 (you will break its chains and release the Tiger).

The La-5FN has a larger more powerful engine. And heavier guns, those are all the La-5FN or other La's have going against the Yak-3. But I still like them all the same, Yak-3 or La-5FN? I fly both quite frequently and have many kills with both.

EDIT: Also, when flying Soviet planes i.e. Yak-1, 9, 3, and La-5FN, 7. Have the Aileron and Elevator sensitivity all the way maxed to the top. Like it was said before, you unleash the planes full potential as a killer.

I think seeing those 3 yaks going down in flames, would definitely beat that sight :grin:
