As thread title, shortly after starting the first soviet mission the engine dies. Set for unlimited fuel/ammo and happens on SIM and Realistic modes. Am I missing something here? Not using WEP or suffering damage in flight but same happens everytime.

your pushing down on the stick too much the i16 has a gravity fed fuel system and pulling to meny negative G's starves the engine of fuel

Ah, so once it dies there is no way of restarting it then which is what happens and I end up having to land in a field and watch the action around me.......

Try looking at this thread (http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=10049&highlight=restarting). It's about restarting your engine. Never tried it though, so can't confirm it.

thanks for that snippet of info, pity it didn't mention the gravity fed fuel system in the details of the plane found in the Hangar. Seems to solve the problem as long as you don't take hits in which case its nosedive and respawn or jump into another cockpit.........haven't tried that yet!

You can still dive in the I-16; roll inverted prior to diving, as you would begin a split-S. This helps negate the effect of the negative-G.

Yea, one of my first complaints about this game. They include the realistic engine behaviour but fail to mention it in the game.

So of course people will be like "wtf" when they fly this plane.

All the mule does is spin the prop, so anything else that spins the prop is sufficient to replace said mule, even when it's just air.

Mid-air restarts aren't that tricky in a piston engine, provided nothing else is wrong with the engine. Turbines, you've got a howling gale going through your combustion chamber, but pistons are very self contained.
