View Full Version : Good fun last night

Last night has some serious dogfighting going on. In a rare occurence, there was a bunch of us playing Team Battle in simulation mode. The game just gets taken up a notch in sim. Going back even to realistic doesn't cut it. I love this game in sim. It's just so fun.

So yeah. Not to say it couldn't use a patch or two, and I'll always take the chance to slide in a "we need German cockpits and a cockpits only option to go with that" comment, but even as it is now, this is just such a fun, great-looking game. I just need more people to kill!

Start playing sim more, people!

Yeah that was AWESOME! especially when we did Spit MKIIs Vs ME-109 E-3's over Dover :) was incredible, I played a realistic match and I just HAD to quit it was simply horrible.

Yup the Mk2 V 109E over dover was a superb few games, quite a few have commented on it today saying it was one of the best games they have ever played :D

Cheers for watching my 6 a couple of times last night to, the whole "turn left/turn right" sure helped :)

Hopefully get it done again soon. Though not tonight as im effectively grounded :( have to spend some time with the gf.

definitely the best games I've ever played.

And yeah team work is key to winning a Team Battle, especially if you've got someone on your 6, you need someone to head on in there and then they need to tell you which way to brake left or right so that you can pull the bandit the right way so he shows your wingman his tail and your team mate can sweep in and get the kill.

that's why turn fighting shouldn't work, because you should tail, fire a few, and break off and come in again, otherwise if they're playing properly they should have a wingman coming to help them clear their six.

What plays a big part though (for me) is i know its team battle, so if someones on my 6 then fair play they may shoot me down, but i will take my target down with me before i go, because i know when im dead.....i'll respawn.

Now if respawns were OFF...... then its a whole different ball game!! If im tailing someone and then his wingman gets onto my 6, im not going to stay on my target, im going to try and get the guy away from my 6 because i know once im dead.....theirs no coming back for revenge.

That and the added fubar situation that is if i do enough damage to someone and use up alot of ammo, i want them to go down before i get shot down by his wingman because i know if i die he wil lcrash and my team doesnt get a kill :(

yeah I see where your coming from, but in the same vein, I don't want to go down and give the enemy a kill.

The first one was my favourite, for some reason no matter where I turned there was an Emil in front of my gun sight. And they just kept exploding it was beautiful! :)

Yeah ! I was there, my first game online. It was simply awesome. How many of you guys were using joystick or controller ?
My wish would be cockpits for all plane and an option for the host to lock camera for cockpit view. That would be nice !

My GT is TurboFly.

I was using the controller for a change. but yes locked to cockpit view would be immense, seeing the bullet holes appear in my canopy were sweeeeeet! :)

DEFINITELY :!::!::!: :-P:-P:-P
We need a "respawn off" option where the team get 1 point when they shot down all the planes of the other team

The game stop when the first team reach (5-10-15 or 20 points)

That will bring a lot more strategy team playing in the game, and Sim pilots will fight their way to the live.

If many of you support that idea please post on the Devs forum.

That's why I like that game, you want something, just ask devs ;);) They will do it for you. (And I am sure that's not a big deal to make for the devs - hope so)

Whatch out i will certainly double post that idea in the forum

I actually like that idea. Although 20 points could take a looong time :P. And you might get more quitters, people getting shot down right away, and the rest taking too long to get shot down.. still, good idea to post it on the dev's forum :). Don't be surprised they won't be interested though, it's probably some work, and they don't like messing around with networking too much.

That's certainly need a bit of beta testing to set correctly the parameter.

If the game just stop after 10mns - 20mns. They should add 15mns as well

I just did it and I improgve the idea a bit with a fuel/time limit for each wave (like counterstrike)

to Everyone if you support that idea please post a positive comment herafter. ;)

Those matches were a blast. When I first joined that room I almost left because I thought 'surely this many people together must be an arcade match' but was thrilled to see such a large group playing sim mode.

I like the idea about one spawn per match. What would be really cool is if you could switch into a teammates cockpit to watch the rest of the match when you died. Kind of like on halo

I think I came into the lobby of a couple of those matches, but left. I am just not ready yet for Sim mode. I want to be, and have done a couple of them, but just can not see, or find the foe. I am not that good at dog fighting either though, but working on it. I have a couple friends that go into private matches with me as target drones to let me practice. But, I have a hard time. I can fly pretty good, and can in many cases stay out of someone elses cross-hairs, but just have a hard time targeting. I like realistic and do pretty well with it, just cant seem to get the kill. My expertise tho is capture the airfield, and strikes. I seem to be much better at pressure landing, and lining up the strike. Kinda a SAC kinda guy, lol.. But, I am still working on the dog fight, because I love it.. I will get better soon I hope, and can be more than a target... lol..

If these guys can put up with me in games I'm sure you'll be fine mate, add a few friends and get playing and you'll pick it up soon enough.

Thanks, and I know you are right. I am not afraid to join in, now matter how much I suck. I just get frustrated in the heat of battle, and want to practice not just to get better, but to also cut down on the frustration in battle. I really enjoy BOP, and will jump in when I want to fumble around, lol... Most the people I have met on live in BOP have been pretty cool people, and a different mindset in many of the other on line games. The people on BOP seem to be much more tolerable, and friendly, and not so much smack talking punk kids.. There are lots of folk that want to help out, and help others get better... I like that.. I am an older guy (49), and not a huge gamer, but enjoy it for the game, not the banter.

That said, only one guy in BOP kind of pissed me off. A punk kid probably. I was teamed up with a couple friends in a CTA game. We have gotten pretty damn good at that, and talk, play teamwork and cover each other. Each of us have our roles, mine being taking the landings since that is my strong suit, as well as striking foe on the ground trying to take the field, while team mates cover me when I am on the ground, and do the more air to air work. Works very well as a team, and we have gotten sort of a rep for being good at that. We had our asses handed to us in one match. Was a good clean fight, and I will bow to a foe that beats me in a clean battle. I like the competetion, and have no problem with loosing a good game. But, this butthead right after the match, sent me a PM stating, and I quote "I bet you thought you were going to win that match. But you failed epically". He was correct, and I lost graciously, and accepted that, but the comment just pissed me off. SO, me and my team went back in, and cleaned his clock in the next battle worse than he took us previously, lol.. My teamates wanted to write him back a bunch of smack, but I told them not to. The BEST revenge for the comment was simply, go back, clean his clock, and walk away.. and that is just what we did, nothing said. We haven't seen that guy on line or in a match since, lol.. We made our point...

Anyway.. It's all fun..

I stumbled into one of those sim matches too (think I saw Seraphim in there?) My first go at sim mode, and flew around 3/4 of the match just trying to find the fight lol! Chased somebody else a bit only to find they were on my team, and only saw one enemy to get a shot at (and was shot down once). Did a few 1v1 and 1v2 matches (actually won one while outnumbered! :) ). That was a lot more fun then I thought sim would be. I do miss the 'lock head to target mode' as that is what you'd do in real life, but I don't mind the arrows not being there.

Only real problem is the planes are tiny, and the brightness of the sky (especially the hazey levels) "washes out" the airplanes so I can't see them at a distance. I drive by an airport daily, and can spot a Cessna well over a mile out on a clear day, but in the game you don't see them until you are right on top of them. Any way to adjust that? I'll tinker with the brightness a bit.

Ya sim mode is the sh!t some most time its just kinda hard to find people to play with every 1 seems scared of sim some times it takes me n hour to get a 2 on 2 going (i only play sim) so i just grab a beer n pack a bowl..... We need more sim players to play with and we also need more of the sim players so that we can get sum capture the airfield and strike.......i also like doing the axis vs allies with u guys easier to recognise the enemy......

Could be. One of my first sim games as well :). What time are most people on? I mean GMT +/- what? I'm on GMT+1, and depending on my flight schedule I can be on anywhere between 1300z and 2400z.

I did not. But do now. I will try that, because that was my biggest complaint, was trying to look around and fly at the same time.

I have been in some heated strike, and airfield battles, but want to also do some sim stuff too... I been flying allot in cockpit view to help get that sensation of the real thing some. I think that will help my transition a little..

Are most people using cockpit view? Its my favorite view (makes it so much more real) but I recently tried out the virtual cockpit and WOW that makes it a lot easier! So simple to lead somebody correctly as there is no airplane nose / wings / dash in the way. Makes figuring out a lead a snap, quick burst, note the relation, adjust and cut loose. They can't go under you to lose you either, I can see through the 'floor'! ;)

Now I'm torn, I do much better in virtual (also no canopy damage, oil to block the view, very easy!) but like the real cockpit for realism. Wish they had a 'lock to cockpit' view like GRID can force you to be in the car!

I honestly would HATE no respawns.

I just want to fly and take people down. If I get downed and have to wait I would get so bored. I can't stand Couner-strike, for example, for that very reason. I go in there, someone on the other team is awesome and kills me before I do anything, I wait for the round to end. Constantly waiting. Not fun.
