Hello guys,

Finally after a while I got the chance to play and test the new patch. and below are my views and issues:

First of all, my rig:

* intel i7 920 processor
* 3gb RAM
* ATI 4890 asus 1gb
* Windows 7 32bit

About the patch.

THE GOOD

Finally I can say I can fly over London with minor stuttering, however something's still there, which might be due to my video memory, but oh well, I was even able to make 3 loops going inside london bridge without crashing due to lag or stutters.

And so far.... that's it, that's the good from my limited testing time, which I consider to be VERY good.

THE BAD

* Again, every time I go into the plane edit screen or other edit & customization interface I get RELIGIOUSLY a crash to desktop, so in this case, stability went the wrong way for me.

* Can't play multiplayer at all, again, CTD as soon as the map screen opens to select your army.

* I appreciate the effort put into improving the UI, and the options in quick mission editor... but somehow I feel just as limited as before, we just can edit some new missions but playing with the numbers is still VERY limited to changing already existing stuff. Also, not sure why, I can't select some plane types in some quick missions, flyable planes like the wellington are non-selectable for me in bombing missions... ??? QMB shouldn't be capped or limited, the point of having it it's to experiment with all the options and content, even in the most drastic ways. We are lacking the ability to create a different scenario than the pre-established ones. Only available via full mission editor.

And for now in my case that's it... hopefully some of this issues will be sorted within a short time, specially everything related to the crash to desktop things on customization screens which in my case it's killing the whole thing.

Thank you all!

Cya later

Luthier,

I have joined this forum just to say thanks to you and the team for your efforts on this. I have read a lot of comments here - some positive, some very negative, so I thought I'd add some feedback myself.

As some background, I have been playing IL2 sims since Forgotten Battles came out. I bought it by chance, as I had not read any reviews, and was not familiar with the original IL2 sim. It was just on the shelf at the shop I was in, and I hadn't played a flight sim since US Navy Fighters, and no historical ones since Red Baron (1990) so I thought, "why not?". Best purchase ever. I loved it, even though my PC at the time was a little under-powered for it! I then bought the Aces Expansion Pack, and Pacific Fighters (which was particularly great for me as I was able to fly for my own country (Australia), which is a rare thing in these games!). These all kept me entertained for years - and that was just the offline play, as I never dared dip my toe into the multilayer arena (I would need to have a ribbon painted on my plane, as I would be a gift for any half-decent pilot ). I was also always impressed with the level of support and the patches released.

SO, I recently got a new system, and was sad to discover the older games had trouble on Win7 64bit, so I then started looking for a copy of 1946, which does run on Win7. A friend suggested I try looking on Steam (which I already had for other games), and then when looking for 1946, I discovered that Cliffs of Dover was just released. This was too almost good to be true!
Well, actually, it WAS too good to be true, because a quick check of reviews and forums quickly revealed the state the sim was in upon its release. This was very disappointing, but I figured I would keep an eye on it.

After finding my way to this forum, and seeing your interaction with more serious fans than myself, and the fact that patches were released so quickly, I decided that it was worth giving it a go - it wasn't THAT expensive, after all. Sure enough, it was slow on my system , especially if I set it to full "pretty" mode.

But I have to say that after swallowing my pride, and dropping back the video settings a bit, it is very playable and my learning curve is starting again. It is better for me after this latest patch too. (I have even acquired a new HOTAS system for it, and started playing with head tracking options).

Anyway, I know that was a bit of an essay, but I guess my point is that your support and passion for this sim is obvious. And while it may not (will not) make everyone happy, it has certainly been enough to get me onboard, and enjoying myself. And while I know it is not a perfect product at the moment, I know from past experience that this software will have a team of people constantly working on it over the coming months/years.

Keep it up!

The Wellington isn't flyable is it, or have I missed something monumental?

The latest patch much like the last BETA, to which i know has been mentioned still has a major bug for me when playing on-line games - SOUND DISAPPEARS COMPLETELY.

Other than that it's all great work and thanks for keeping it up!

But please sort this issue out - its ruined the game for me IMOA.

Just saying!!

* By popular demand, enemy indicator arrows will now only appear in the no-cockpit
view, and will not show up when the cockpit is turned on, i.e. work they did in
the original Il-2 games.

BOOO Ive allways wanted this feature in the Original IL-2 game!! Thought i finally got it only for it to be ripped away. Why not just add an Difficulty option to be able to toggle the Arrows on or off no matter if cockpit is allways on or not!

After this latest patch the game now freezes up on entry to flight - I see the cockpit view and hear engine noise, but the screen is frozen even after several minutes.

Giving up, uninstalling and moving on.

Default Luthier - ref your lost-sound solution

Hi Luthier,

I was told you had recommended the following to overcome the lost-sound problem (I can't find your post on that).

I have backed up and deleted ALL my conf.ini, confuser.ini, confs.ini, user.ini and bldconf.ini files including the Steam User Data ones, then I validated the Steam installation and ran CoD once to create my /1C Soft Club/ ini's.

I also read that you felt editing the .ini files can cause problems so before I go too far, I would like to know what I can and can't edit in the ini files to save time on in-game selections. What /can I/should I NOT/ copy across from the old files or do I have to start again with all of the in-game selections.

I do have a saved controls file I would like to reload, is that ok?
I would like to just copy back my user.ini (gun settings) file, is that ok?

EDIT: and all to no avail. Fine off-line, sound breaks up and disappears in MP
